I have never run into anyone with the same screen name as me. Canid seems to be a fairly uncommon screen name in a forum setting.

I doubt people will "steal" your name out of spite, hell, they may have never seen it before.

OT: Yes, only once on XBL, my gamertag was already taken, so I had to compromise.

Never happened to me. Well, some dude changed his Steam name to mine for a few games. But it was because we were all switching names around.

my username hasnt ever been stolen, but my character names for WoW have. It was very upsetting, i had this super cool creative name, inspired by what used to be my favorie game, Fire Emblem, and then it was taken when i transfered my character to a new server. My name was Cormag btw. He was a wyvern rider that you could convert to your side. Then my name was Pardue (from Code Monkeys), then when i moved again had to change it to Forde(also from Fire Emblem, he was the brother of my the person that inspired my friend's character, Sain) then i moved one more time, had to change it yet again. This time i was super creative, but no one can pronounce my name correctly.

I've been using this username for over 10 years (ever since I started playing online games). Then some dipshit company makes a workout supplement and names it after me (obviously after me, not nitric oxide). And now my user name is taken quite often.

Geo is a pretty popular nickname, I've found, so I usually resort to Geo88 or Geo0880. If those are taken, I have one last fallback that's never taken.

It used to bug me a lot, but I grew up and accepted it after the fourth or so time.

I can't remember the last time that happened.
Might have something to do with the slight spelling error in the start of the name, that stuck.

Korroth was once an uncommon name, I got into EQ 10 years ago managed to get it first on my main server, a year later tryign to make the Toon on another server the name was taken, when I checked I found that they were even playing the same class. Lots of other places I'm Korroth. Every now and again(generally same game different servers) some person is using my name. I've gone so far as to log in add them as friends to my friend list and wait for them to log in and chat them up to find out where they came up with the name. on 5 occasions I foudn that the player saw me, saw my name and loved it and wanted to use it as well. In the game Torpia(a persistant Strategy browser game. A player named one of her towns after me. After I flattened it and she tried attacking me in return she found I had out manuvoured her and was able to kill her armies. We ended up becoming really good friends and when i asked her why, she said she really liked the name. It only truly bugs me if I run into people using my name and they're being complete ass-hats. Or like in Persistent strat games they are using my name because I've been in the top 100(of upwards of 20k players) for three or four rounds and they want to be me or homage my Guild(s) There are billions of people on the planet how original do you really think you are? Getting pissed because someone else is using your name generates you nothing but high blood pressure. Move on to a back up name get over it, or use a back up name find the bastard kill him in game and tea bag his ass. Copyright a name? Good luck with that, copyrighted names are used daily by unimaginative douche bags.

some Forum games include "where'd you get your name?" threads... I admit to not being super original with my name. It's Origin (or where I got it from) was Star Trek TNG, Ko'roth was a Klingon warrior trapped out of phase after a tranporter accident, I removed the apostrophe and added an r. Not very imaginative once you know the origin, but till that moment people think i came up with it all on my own.

I've gone so far as to use Tolkien Elven words as names. BTW Azure-supernova, I've played dozens off games and seen azure hundreds of ways azure is incredibly common so is omega and bullrush(unless I happened to know the same tuarin warrior when I played) very common and often inappropriately used.

The only time it really bugs me is when my list of 20 names are used. Then its a conspiracy to keep me from playing.

Actually the 593 in my name was put in there originally (it sounds better), though you would think it's because of someone taking the obvious Ninetails Pokemon direction.
