Could be good, but I'm sceptical because how could it effectively track your head movements without the player having 360 degrees TV or screen? It's all great saying when I look left, the player on screen looks left, but I'm now looking at a wall, not the TV, so seems somewhat pointless. If they do get it to work, then it could really be great.
I'm picturing something like RE4, where the c-stick would tilt the camera 20 degrees or so in any direction. Hell, I already find myself leaning over on the couch trying to see around corners. Why not use that?

Remember how everyone said the Wii would revolutionize console shooters and now most people bash it? Natal will most likly do the same.
except no one will even bother to claim its revolutionary. I'll have to see it in action but i am seriously sceptical - - as sceptical as if someone told me "trust me you have to try bowel surgery, it gives you such a kick!"

I think it would be more of a head tilt motion.
Well thats just using random movements.
The curse fo the Wii, where so called the 'immersive motion tracking' is far less effective (infuriatingly so) than wrist flicks. I know so many people who bought Wii's worked this out, worked out that there were not enough games, sold the Wii over christmas for a huge profit then bought an xbox/ps3, hacked the xbox and were happy.
Meh motion tracking mice for P.c's for desktop and workspace would be fun, but i'd still use tactile peripherals for games.

Natal is going to tank. If this wasn't the internet and everyone here wasn't anonymous, I'd have no problem putting down money on that either.

This is Microsoft we're talking about here. Everything next gen they have released, including the system itself, has either been plagued with problems or just a scam to make people spend money when a workaround would have been just fine.

They say they'll develop hardcore gamer stuff, but no one is developing hardcore gamer stuff for the Wii. I don't see how Natal will be any different. It's just a gimmick to make you buy more useless crap from Microsoft so Bill Gates can become richer and everyone else can become poorer.

Something tells me that hardly anyone actually will buy Natal anyway. Maybe it'll come bundled with their hardcore "triple A" (whatever the FUCK that means) game that comes out.

Am I the only one that just really doesn't like motion controls? As soon as their released everyone tries to tack on some crappy motion-based component to their game that just drags down the entire experience. Really, there's no need for it.
I agree completely. Wii is barely motion, considering after the first week of getting it, you finally sit down and just flick your wrist.
I did that from the first day. It's the way I preferred playing. It's not so much the motion sensitivity that does it for me as the IR camera that gives you pointer capabilities. In my dream world, Xbox 360 shooters can be played with the Wii Remote. That's console FPS perfection right there.

Can't wait to get my hands on an FPS without a controller.

If you can't tell, that's sarcasm.

Hmmm. How would you turn your head to look around corners when, y'know, you're supposed to be looking at the screen?

Could be good stuff, but honestly I don't care.

I want Natal for the face and voice recognition and the motion-controlled menus personally.

Thats actually what I thought. And using your head to turn the view? For Frigs sake, its not a virtual reality headset, the screen DOESN'T turn with your view...

I'm open to the idea that it can work with 'hardcore' games, but I'm doubtful they will get it working.

If they're going to have real, hardcore Triple-A titles on it, then why do they have Rare developing for it, who haven't released anything good since 1999?
Haha, because that's how long their development timetable is... remember how LONG it took them to release Perfect Dark? :p

If it's based off of a person movements, then theoretically, someone can just walk past the screen and your guy in the game will start doing the same? Or if they wave their hand infront of the sensor, will that trigger something in the game?

Look up a man named Johnny Lee and his Wii remote hacks. Realize that this man was picked up my Microsoft. I think they could really have something going if they are willing to let this man run wild and find new and creative uses for the technology.

Posts like this just make me wish the word Hardcore didn't exist.
Unfortunately it does...but it should only be used as a marketing term, not gamers..which makes it sad.

Tehehe, the only thing worth getting a wii for is SSBB and that doesnt even use motion controls. But seriously on my podcast me and my friends covered this sort of thing with our "Iron Designer Challenge" where one of us come up with a game design based challenge. The challenge this time was make a FPS for the wii that will save its floundering badness.

I won, with the idea of a GOW clone with TF2 style graphics where the nun-chuck analogue controls movement and turns you while the wiimote aims on the screen. Thats what Wii FPS' should be.

Natal has potential to be awesome, just as the Wii does.
It will be up to how the technology is treated. Nintendo have done well with the Wii, the reason people ***** about it is because of the crap everyone else releases, you can't expect one company to develop the console as well as fill its library single handedly.
Microsoft probably won't have that problem. Its already established itself as a console aimed at teens to adults, so it likely will dodge the multiple bullets that are shovelware games.

Unfortunately the Wii's cheap price coupled with its ease of use coming from the motion controls attracted games that wanted to take advantage of Nintendo's kid friendly attitude. Microsoft's issue will be attracting designers to design for Natal, I'd be surprised if it wasn't rather difficult to grasp (at least initially) so whilst I'm sure MS will make some awesome games for it, others might just stick to the basic control schemes.

Sorry if this wasn't as fluent and comprehensible as it could be, I'm not 100% with it atm.
