Gundam games are good. Preferably the Dynasty Warriors Gundam games. They are fun.

I can't believe no one mentioned Shogo. Great First Person mech game for pc that you can get pretty cheap on gog.com
Shogo remains one of my all time favourite FPS games...but it's not "really" a mech game.

the mech levels scale everything to make you look huge but you still move and fight pretty much the same way you did as a human...it doesnt feel much different than if you were just playing a second human class with different weapons. it never really feels like your piloting a mech.

that being said, it is still very much worth playing just for the story and levels(I get such a kick out of looking for that damn cat using the plushy toy lol) and it does have lots of that anime/mecha flavour

Play Front Mission 3. You can get it off PSN. Or you can get Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries for free from mektek.
wait wait wait, Giant robot games for free?!

Why wasn't I told about this.
I think they were trying to keep it on the down low.
Mr. Alejandro Jauco used to work for AMD and MechWarrior was some kind of "tech game" something like Crysis is today. i'm pretty sure my professor wouldn't lie, and besides he really knows his shit, so im inclined to believe him.

I think you've quoted the wrong person. I have no idea what you're talking about.

Fine, play the SNES version

I like you. Though if I may add:

Macross Ultimate Frontier for PSP. Somewhat of a off shoot of the Gundam Battle series, also PSP.

Holy Hell! I just saw footage for Mechwarrior 5 and I'm impressed at the very least. I love the attention to detail inside the cockpit.

Was this tossed away as a lost project, or is it still going?
i know one of the developers personally and yes, they scrapped it
Don't take this the wrong way, but I REALLY hope your a troll, or lieing, or something. Not attacking you, but that is just too depressing to someone who grew up on the mechwarrior games. Then again, seeing as it went 2 years after that first trailer came out with no real news on the actual game, just that legal bullshit involving that macross thing, I had a feeling this is what happened...

fingers crossed it may someday get out of it. Hell, I'd gladly take even another Mechassault game, those were pretty damn good in their own right.

OT: I personally recommend the Mechwarrior games (pc) and the Mechassault games (xbox). They were all pretty enjoyable, but what really made them for me was that feel that you were actually controlling a larger than life walking tank. One of the problems I had with the few Eastern Mech games I played was that I just really didn't feel like I was playing as a giant robot. They just didn't really have the sense of being massive 30-100 ton machines, felt more like I was playing as a dude in a robot suit. Having a few buildings/trees around to measure the mech against isn't the same thing. They need to make noise, destroy things just by stepping on/threw them, have a real sense of weight to them...then again, you're probably not looking for that feeling, since as far as I know I'm the only one who really is. A pity, but you'll still like the Mechwarrior and Mechassault games, I think.

Captcha: genius, predde.
Why, thank you, I think.

Yup. Missile swarms, VF's & customisation galore, and fun arena battles!

... just don't go expecting story btw. It really is Mecha Porn Fan-Service, but it works for me.

from what i understand, its in a legal battle, i dont know if that is still going on or what, but i have not heard anything saying that they no longer plan to develop it
EDIT: oh, and i enjoyed both front mission and mechwarrior 4 (mech 4 more-so, and its free!!!)

I don't expect NORMAL porn to have any story anyway, so it all works out.

The problem is those type of games are clearly for people who watched the show. I definitely love the Gundam Battle series. Love to mess around with my custom Zaku and Gouf :)

Dynasty Warrior: Gundam 2 is great as well, if you are in that type of game, since it's not a shooter (which is what a Gundam should be), but it's fun game nonetheless.

The problem with DW: Gundam 2, if you can REALLY call it that, is that the game doesn't feel like it's about mechs at times and more like it's just normal people wearing armor. Not to say it's not fun, but when I play it, I feel like I'm not really piloting a mech and more like I'm at a gundam cosplay convention beating up all the participants.

that and DW: G2 sometimes can get a little dull.

Yup, I'm pretty sure that's the main reason neither series was ported state side. Gundam sure as heck isn't as big here as it is Japan (It's like Star Wars level of fame out there, right?), and where as thoughts of Macross inevitably have me shaking my fist at Harmony Gold. *shakes fist*

Front Mission's a decent one, there's also quite a few F2P MMOs out of Asia that you might check out.

Or you could try Steel Battalion if you need a sudden leave of your senses and money. :D
is that avatar from Romantically Apocalyptic?

also, Trenched by double fine is coming out soon if you can wait.

Ah Harmony Gold, their policies don't make any sense at all. As if they couldn't make a quick buck from localizing Macross products instead of their ripoff. Sadly, Robotech did introduce me to the macross world.

I sold my copy a while back, and scurried off to get another copy yesterday. I feel it's closer to a lego games, the way I am beating up the poor grunt units :p can't wait for the 3rd game somehow > . > But yeah, would be funny if after you destroy one of dem grunts, you end up finding a fat cosplayer inside running off to hide his shame :p
