Okay you know admittedly I had never thought of it that way before and I'll admit this did make me laugh. Being a fan of the show I had always thought of it as being a realistic look at how being thrown into that particular situation would look like. As for the downsides to your point just so they are noted, "The giant mech causes you physical pain in sometimes large quantities when it is damaged, it will also potentially drive you mentally insane while piloting it in certain situations if you are not careful, the first attractive woman is too old for you and has no sort of sexual attraction toward you, the second girl is suffering though her own set of emotional issues that could potentially be more pain to go through than it's worth to get with her in either a dating or sexual situation, the second girl is also exceptionally violent and condescending which is bound to get on your nerves, and the third girl while once again being attractive is almost disturbingly submissive, a clone of your mother, and it's unknown as to weather or not she is sexually interested in you or if the emotional interest in you is purely paternal." That all being said you still could be said to having a valid point. On a side note knowing that you messing up could "literally" end the world is a lot of pressure for a fourteen year old boy. Just noting that.

You think that is bad? In one of the movies he fapped to the unconcious redhead right next to her.
She wasn't just in unconscious. Pretty sure she was in hospital at the time too.

Not sure why you stopped watching anime because of one scene though. Seems pretty weird.
Lost all faith/interest in it really. It was disgusting, that scene. Thankfully the ending to FMA (the original, not brotherhood) brought renewed interest in the entire genre.
Ugh

Anime is NOT a genre [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/features/9829-Can-Americans-Make-Anime], an article written on this very site!
Well neither is "Romantic Bullshit that stupid ass teenagers are so enthralled by with shitty ass plot and horrific characters that actually insults its readers", yet I still consider it a genre that Twilight and Hunger Games are lumped into.

I call it what I wish.
You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.

Anime is not a "genre".

Yup, that sums up NGE quite nicely actually.

EDIT: Okay guys, it's just making fun of the anime's outer most details. NGE is so goddamn straight faced with its jacked up story telling that anyone can lampoon it. Relax, it's just a matter of friendly mocking for the sake of comedic value!

From what I got (and having seen just the first page of the thread I know its been said already) then...

Shinji was left as orphan - his father never picking him again after his mother died. That's like, about as dick move as it gets

second, then daddy only really wants to use sonny boy by having him risk his life repeatedly - and doesn't ever really express any gratitude or respect for the kid for doing so

and the whole 'your mother was made into a giant mecha - and we also probably cloned her to pilot other giant mecha' deal just... no

If my Dad gave me a giant robot and three super hot chicks to live with he could get away with just about anything.
I seconded that notion.

Only thing Shinji Ikari needs is Noah Bright (from MS Gundam) to "Bright ***** slap" the emo out of him. Alternatively Kamina from Gurren Lagann with his Motivational fist would work as well.

Hadn't thought about it like this. Though in actual context he is way worse.

Well, when you pull out all the context and completely fail to understand or just outright ignore what was really going on with ANYTHING in the series, I'd agree with your caption statement. Otherwise, I LoL'ed.

i look forward to evangelion fans meticulously listing every bad thing Gendo's Dad did.
No need - the comic did it just fine. :p

Piloting a Giant Robot - awesome.
Piloting a giant Thing that causes the pilot to feel all the damage that it takes as if it was happening to the pilot's own body - horrible.

Also, Shinji's main issue is being scared of relationships... so three hot women, while awesome to the well adjusted soul, is also rather scary to Shinji himself.

Someone else pointed out that Japanese men are socially inhibited about pretty women - this is also true. So much so that it seems to be affecting the population of Japan. Badly.

I love the mechanical design in EVA.
And seeing the work WETA would've done for the live action version, makes me sad it did'nt come to be.

The EVA's are the only reason this series deserves to be mentioned.
Well....and Gendo is pretty epic though...
But the thing that always bugged me was the so called "hotness" of Asuka and Rei.
They are 14 years old.....o_o

It was fuckin' disgusting and the main reason I stopped watching any animes (except for Death Note/FMA).

.. . .. What?

Which movie did he do, that in?? The anime usually symbolized things but this ... seriously what?

Fuck you son, I want you to fight world shattering monsters in your mom's corpse. This undersexed woman is going to misinterpret all of your issues while your only friends beat up an berate you. Also there's this creepy chick who will mess with your trust. This isn't even close to the shit you'll be experiencing in the second cour.

Go for Rei. They order her in bulk :3

Lol, Grey is obviously making a joke. NGE is tons deeper than this and rife with multiple symbols/themes.

In other news, this anime is not for everyone. Some people will 'get it' and others won't. It's a matter of personal preference really; I'm pretty sure Anno knew what he was getting into before he went there.

Also still want a giant robot.
/cough like gendo being the dad and shinji is the son /cough

or that the robot is hooked up to your Nervous system so when it takes damage you feel pain.

Or that both of the hotties you're living with are attracted to the same person who happens to be a spy and is banging you're somewhat mentally damaged (I mean emotionally) guardian. Or that the "hottie" red head is also batshit crazy and wants to murder/fuck everyone.

Or the submissive hottie is actually a clone of your mother so they look alike.

Yeah i'd take that deal. Mentally damaged people are fun to watch.

Gendo is still a prick because he forgot to mention that all of those hot chicks are crazy, in one way or another.
