Ancient Greece would be amazing actually.
I'd challenge that idea. Give me ancient Rome... the Colloseum and the Hippodrome. Chariots and other delicious things.

OT: Less is more except when less is absolutely bollock all from ass-clowns who think they are being clever.
You're right, thinking about it. They would have an awful lot of similarities...hmmm.

A modern game would be interesting, although I do like the historical context. Perhaps the Industrial Revolution?
But anyway I thought the next game was going to be about Desmond?
Unless this one follows a character like that Russian Assassins I forget the name of. He had the graphic novel done about him....?

PS Sorry if I post twice but first time it 404'd.

I agree. An Assassin's Creed game taking place in colonial Boston throughout the Revolutionary War? Awesome. Plus, they can screw with history by saying that it was a Piece of Eden that allowed the Americans to win.
I thought that was what they were hinting at in the end cut scene of Brotherhood. When Shaun sees the Masonic Eye and the Phrygian cap, he says "Now those two come together in only one place-" and then gets cut off. That one place is the American dollar bill, so I figured the game would take place in revolutionary America.
The Eye & Cap also appear on the Declaration of The Rights of The Man And Of The Citizen (French version of the Declaration of Independence)

When I first saw they might be reusing Altair, I sighed loudly and tried to work out how they might shoe-horn him into another game. Besides the Christian Crusades, the only noticeable thing happening in the region was the Ottoman Empire. When I saw the Greek artifact in this trailer, well, I wasn't proven wrong yet since Greece was in the Ottoman Empire.

Personally, I'm really hoping they don't use Altair again just because I don't want to play the same characters through-out the series and Altair was so 2D due to his fanatical loyalty.

lets hope its not Ancient Greece and more the ruins of Greece in the Middle Ages, as having it set in Ancient Greece predates the existence of Assassins as they are named. It also predates their chief target and enemy, the Knights Templar, which gets a bad rep for whatever reason, guess everyone just hate on Bankers.

Im all for going back to the relatively silent protagonist Altair. I thought he was a better assassin, he didn't have hand cannons and he is more committed since he had to give up a finger to be one :p He didn't have Q, aka Leonardo De Vinci, and still got the job done.

I've yet to play Brotherhood, but I have to say AC2 (PC) was really quite fun, furthering the series in every way save Ubisoft DRM shitfuckery. BIG AC2 SPOILER...

I know that people have been asking for Desmond's game, but I'm really fine with it being last, or one of the last in the series. I like him as a vehicle for the story. When Ezio goes and speaks to the... [REDACTED] below the Vatican at the end of AC2 I thought that was a nice storytelling method. The [REDACTED] thing of amazing power basically says to Ezio "Yeah, I'm not going to answer any of your questions. In fact, I'm not even here for you. Rather, Desmond...listen now to what I have to say", with Ezio ending yelling "Who the hell is Desmond!?" and without any more real info than he started with.

Its kind of neat to have a main character, that you play for hours in each game - with his own motivations, struggles, loves etc.... but all are really only seen through the primary story vehicle of Desmond.

I'm surprised that everyone suddenly believes that this teaser is telling us the setting off the game. UbiSoft has been tricky with it's teasers for this series, so maybe they are giving us clues to the [i/]story[/i] and not the setting. In AC2 we have the Codex, with detailed stuff that went down in the Middle East, but we're playing in Italy. Maybe they are doing something similar here: A link to the past moving the plot but with a setting closer to modern day.

Can't they just drop the shitty backstory with Desmond and the Animus?

Or they could just, you know, finish up Assassin's Creed 3 instead of another spin-off. Just putting that out there.
I'm sure Assassin's Creed 3 will come out in 2012, so that it makes sense with the game's storyline...
That's what I thought too. Can they fit in a game this year as well? I think they should just emphasize on AC3 for the Fall 2012 release, and NOT do a spin-off this year.

Later (in 2014-15) they could do a collage of Spin-off Assassin's from different times who aren't necessarily connected to the main story (or maybe all connected to a NEW story?).

As for this one: I don't know about Ancient Greece. Very few people have done the "non-Mythological" side of Ancient greece, opting to over-indulge in the fantasy/myth...... but it might still feel a bit unoriginal.

Even better; New York, Gangs Of New York style.
Other favourites of mine; Paris during the French Revolution, Victorian London and some big cities in Russia during Revolutionary times (think 1905-1917). Enough political intrigue in those areas and times to fuel the Templar-conspiracy story of the AC games.

I think an Egyptian setting would be awesome.. Wrist-asp!

Also, the Desmond storyline is terrible, and just gets in the way of me enjoying the Medieval/Renaissance Assassinations. I don't give two hoots about the mumbo-jumbo conspiracy, I just want to be an assassin. Why is that so hard for Ubisoft to understand. Hitman works without making him goody-two-shoes, I'm killing for a secret governmental agency so actually I'm the good-guy backstory..

I think it's rather more likely to be set during the French Revolution myself. The Phrygian cap only became a feature of US iconography after the French Revolution. Paris at the time would make for a much more interesting game world as the "cities" of the Thirteen Colonies were quite small at the time. Also, take a look at this... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaration_of_the_Rights_of_Man_and_of_the_Citizen

And there I was hoping for Victorian England :p

Here's hoping that this will be AC3 and not another Brotherhood. (Brotherhood was actually the best so far, but I want a proper sequel and some damned story closure!)

*insert JFK Reloaded joke here*

And also this trailer does look confusing, but I'll sit and wait for E3 personally.

That there would be the Phaistos Disc. Its Minoan and no one knows what the hell it means. Ancient Greece it is, then.

Oh, yeah, there's a ton of revolutionary stuff you could do. I was just suggesting America because of how ridiculous it is that we won and the future impact the country had on the world.

I'd have much rather prefer Russia during the 18th century. I mean don't get me wrong, it's cool that the AC series is visiting locations that are not normally visited in games but I just can't see what's so cool about ancient Greece once you've been to Renaissance Italy. Remember the Roman ruins in Brotherhood? Multiply that by a thousand and add a bit of variety and you've got ancient Greece. The romans got their arhitecture from the Greeks and I just can't imagine the game being that interesting now that we've already been to Rome.

I completely agree with you. They should just finish up the story, and if they want to make games similar to AC then for it after AC is done. I hate nothing more than a ruined trilogy.

Most definitely, though not as ridiculous considering the huge backing of the French (think America backing the Mujahideen during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan) and I wouldn't be surprised if they'd do one. I sure hope so. When I watched Gangs of New York I could just imagine it being an Assassin's Creed game; the melee combat, the tons of tiny alleys and large rickety buildings offering a more varied and interesting environment than ever before.
