This is... actually pretty cool.

But now I have a constant paranoia, cause you never know when you are infected.
The obvious solution is to shoot your computer right in the hard drive if it's bitten.

And it was forever known as...

the PRIME INTELLECT BOT.

Now just imagine it having some kind of artificial intelligence. Now fear.
Imagine it spreading everywhere, scanning and disabling any other virus...and not being affected by antivirus software or even formatting.
Imagine it looking at you with its cold and analytic eye.

It can see you.
Always.

Whats interesting to me is that it is capable of neutralizing malware. That's be like Ebola rendering you immune to the common cold, influenza, syphilis and the Aids virus.

This also means that formatting your computer, a process that restores every Windows component to its most basic state, has no effect on Top Bot.
somebody forgot to take pills

formatting , is not "restoring every windows component to it's most basic state"

when you format , you format everything. boot record is a part of windows, that has options and other necessary stuff, boot record can be fixed/customized via recovery console (XP repair) or command prompt (win7) - with the install CD.

Well I think I should be safe, I only ever go on The Escapist, Twitter, Facebook and Youtube. Even though I know this I'm still running two scans right now... Damn you internet!

Why cant they make a bot that also destroys every bit of malware, spyware, trojans and all that other crap online that infects computers. That would be awesome.
If all the bot did was use my computer for spam now and then, I'd be just about willing to have it on my system if it protected me from all the other malware out there. Almost.

So the solution to this is a bootdisk. It's a fairly old concept actually. I would make them all the time. One could be put on a usb stick.

I'm not a computer wiz in any sense of the word, so understand that my understanding of such things is trivial, but wouldn't the solution to a problem like this be to install an anti-virus or counter program that also installs itself in the computer's boot record, or something like that?

Yeah, basically, but it would actually have to check the boot record too... And im not sure windows would let the antivirus be installed in the boot record, much less go digging around in there.

Wow the first half of this made me feel dumb. :( Wut?!

Of course, scrolling through the comments to get to the reply box I see a bunch of people shouting their love for their macs. Happens every time a site posts something about a nasty pc virus. Maybe some day people will realize no one cares. -.-;

I wonder if labeling it 'indestructible" is their way of mind games to get more people to actively work on bringing it down to prove that statement wrong.

Aren't there already viruses that infect the master boot record? Eh, whatever.

The title of this article made me think of the Titanic. "Indestructible" things tend to be destroyed quiet often ironically.

If only people could make actual anti-virus and anti-malware software as ingenious and effective as these botnets... *le sigh*
