Just one more masterpiece soon to be destroyed by DC. You don't have to be Dr. Manhattan to predict ruin if this comes to life.

Hurm. Story by Goldman left a bad taste in my mouth. DC is apparently to be filled with nothing but liberals and communists, men who lack vision and principles and even original ideas. DiDio is nothing but a twitching whore for attention, a fanboy one step above writing fan fiction in his mother's attic. Johns is little better, a man whose most prominent achievement appears to be introducing more colors into a story's spectrum. Possibly homosexuals? Must remember to investigate further.

The company will look up and all its whores and suits will be shouting "Buy us!" And I'll look down and whisper, "No."

well... fine... let him make more watchmen, but i have one question first. who watches the watchmen?! what if he screws it all up?! just one missed detail and that could ruin it forever. besides, people dont seem to want watchmen, they want... whatever the DC universe wants.
[sub][sub][sub]personally im a marvel fan...[/sub][/sub][/sub]
Good point, and the thing is, there are many careful details to pay attention to.

The death of rorshach, half of NY was blown up by ozymandias, Comedian is still dead, and Dr Manhattan just decided to Bugger off at the end, among others.

I think my only real defense is that in comparison to most adaptations it's a fairly literal interpretation of the book. Soulless thanks to Snyder but literal. It makes me curious as to whether there's any fan edits in the works. That said I can't argue it is so bad I haven't been able to sit through it again since it was in theatres. Sad bluray gathering dust on the shelf and I consider myself serious comic nerd. I think I've actually seen League of extraordinary gentlemen a couple times, but watchmen can't decide whether it's serious drama piece about the coldwar or a Nine inch nails music video. Watching it is akin to falling asleep while having a seizure.
I guess I wasn't aware that there even were other adaptations of Watchmen. I suppose I could see some low-budget fan-made stuff, but I don't really count that since they tend to be made people who lack the funding and experience of the people who made the actual movie.

In any case, the debate seems to be getting stale, as at this point I'm not even really sure what I should say in response to your points, so I suppose that we should just agree to disag- well... semi-agree, I suppose.

Why man.... WHY?!
Just leave watchmen alone people what more could you add to the story anyway?

"Here we see Nite Owl and Silk Spectre in... *Ahem* another sex scene.... please don't fire me."
Oh my god... THANK YOU! All my friends who insist on being fans of Watchmen all looked at me like I was on crack when I pointed-out the sex scene as an example of why I didn't care for the movie. Every single one of them basically said "Are you crazy man, that scene was fucking hot. Did you see the way she rode him? You just must not like sex." And other such bullshit counter-points that failed to counter the fact that it was a needless addition that didn't actually add anything at all. Hell, one of them even tried countering me by claiming that scene was in the comic and I must have just ignored it since I didn't like it as much.

It's amazing how people will throw all sense out the window just because there are tits involved.
Be that as it may, it was actually in the comic.
They have sex during the course of the story, but it happens purely off-"camera". They back into the flamethrower button while kissing, the story cuts to a different scene, and by the time we get back to them they're already done. Thus, it wasn't in the comic, it's simply known that it happened. Which frankly is another part of what I dislike about the movie. They pulled out everything subtle and changed it to more of a slap in the face. It's like the movie was saying "Hey, you're too stupid to figure this out on your own, so BAM there it is for ya plain as day." Most things in that category are fairly minor on their own, but they add-up fast like when you're spending a dollar here and a dollar there and suddenly you're broke without realizing you've spent that much.
Necropost on my part, but okay fair point.

Worst. Idea. Evah.

Should they make a followup to Citizen Kane as well? or Maus? or V for Vendetta - Where Evie lives in a country where everything's nice and fluffy?

[HEADING=1]NO![/HEADING]
Um... there IS a followup to Maus.

Well America, this is what you all get for making that accursed Watchmen movie fiscally successful. This would be like writing a sequel to King Lear.
