So, while not his hair, it's still the way he looks that you object to?
In the same way that I'd object to being given fashion advice from Elton John, yes. In the same way I'd object to the character of Kratos being redesigned to look like a starving Ethiopian, yes.
Considering how many actors have played Doctor Who, and how different they all looked from each other, I'm astounded at this reaction.

They wouldn't deliberately cast someone without thinking he was going to be good in the role would they? Fucks sakes.

Can I point out, that there was a rumor at one point that Jason Statham might be taking the roll. Now as much as I love his films, can you imagine anyone worse for the part? No. So give this guy a break, I thought the same when Daniel Craig was announced as the new James Bond, as did most British newspapers at the time, but look how good he is.

Anyway, I think he looks quite interesting. And my only regret is that he isn't from the north. Doesn't have a bald/shaved? head. And doesn't wear a leather jacket. Christopher Eccleston, for anyone that didn't get it. I would have liked him to carry on, he was very good. Shame Tennants leaving though, he was pretty darn good.

Whilst I hate to say it...Bonnie Langford as Mel? or Adric... There have been one or two choice fluffs in the past; but I'm still saying he should be good.

Its a minimum threshold thing - each of those, despite bringing new things to the role, could pull off that air of wisdom around them. This guy cannot, simply because he's too young to be wise.
May Rassilon forgive me for saying this, but do you think we should wait until the first episode to judge?

Peter Davison was only 29 when he first started playing the 5th Doctor. Matt Smith is 26. Not that big a difference. Time will have to tell on this one, for certain.

Well as long as he's better than John Barrowman, the writing should see him through. If he isn't then I may be forced to pluck out my own eyes with a cyber spoon....

bah, ruined even more.

I thought Catherine "fuck wit" Tate was the last straw but that is just morbidly obese.

Those were cast by the old series people. I believe hes referring to this new generation under Russell T Davies, which has been spectacular.

I only fear what will happen if this doctor meets Captain Jack Harkness...

From that point on, I read your post with Jason Stathams voice in my head.

Shit or no as a Doctor, he'd be the coolest sounding doctor, give him that.

Boo. Bring out Dylan Moran.
Hahaha, that would be classic. I can picture him now stumbling around, smoke in hand, mumbling telling the Daleks to fuck off.

The fact that the look is totally incongrous with the Doctor. No matter what, the Doctor is wise, he is experienced, he is the smartest man in the room. He's a walking stack of Deus Ex Machinas, and thats why we love him.

This guy, is too young. If he says he's battled the Sea Devils, it doesn't mesh. He might be a fine actor, but getting someone like that for The Doctor is just wrong.

I'll still watch it, and probably love it. But this guy is wrong, and he needs to prove himself before I will stop saying the Doctor shoulkd be at least in his mid thirties.
Yeah, David Tennent could have easily missed this mark, but his acting pulled his skinny ass through. When he turns to the bad guy and gives his "surrender or face the consequences" speech he fills out the roll nicely.

Matt Smith has some pretty big shoes to fill, not just from the newest two doctors, he's got to be at least in the top 4 to keep the mobs at bay.
I'll watch, and give him more of a chance then I did the last two who proved me wrong.

I think everyone is more annoyed by the rash of, well, this is going to sound ignorant and bigoted but i prefer to be blunt so the rash of "fag" looking actors latly. Movie actors used to look like they could actually do half the shit they did, big tough men with muscles on top of their muscles who can get the shit kicked out of them and still get back up to cut the bad guys throat with a condom wrapper. You know, those really annoying serrated tin ones.
In short we want real men or at least people like Eccleston who look like they are chosen by their acting ability instead of how prettily the studio can market them. I was pissed off when I first saw Tennent as I thought they hired a no name pretty boy but he was insane enough to make it work but this kid is half a step up from starring in the next Twilight movie.
Anyway its all across the board, look at modern anime. Its all 12 year old boys who weigh less than a postage stamp.
We just want heroes who look believable and not this "metrosexual" bullshit.
I think you pinned it for me. This guy is way too Twilighty to pull it off.

Seriously, Matt Smith is a dead ringer for Glenn Howerton.
Holy shit. I thought it might be the lead singer of the All-American Rejects at first but you hit it right on the head. Props for the Always Sunny reference, too. Great show.
