I'm sure the casting decision was an excellent one, but still the first thought that went through my head was, "God what Twilight set did they pull this guy off of?".

Ive never heard of this actor in my life.

Why not Brian Blessed?
BECAUSE THERE'S NOT ENOUGH SHOUTING!

Ahem.
That would be awesome. We used to have a chemistry teacher who was just like Brian Blessed except thinner and a tad quieter. We could still hear him from the other side of the campus when he laughed, which was awesome. A pupil once lit a small bonfire in chemistry (A mix of matches, ethanol, and an open methane tap.), the telling off he received is still remembered today as one that made the teacher smash a window!.

Ahh, to be young again.

They wouldn't deliberately cast someone without thinking he was going to be good in the role would they? Fucks sakes.
Whilst I hate to say it...Bonnie Langford as Mel? or Adric... There have been one or two choice fluffs in the past; but I'm still saying he should be good.
I actually rather liked Adric. Mel, on the other hand, needed to die in a fire. Hideous, simply hideous.

While this guy certainly doesn't look as seasoned as I'd expect the new Doc to, I'm reserving judgment. I never thought Eccleston could pull it off, and he did - to the point that it made me rather grumpy to have him replaced by Tennant - who I now consider to be the best to ever hold the role.

I think we have to worry more about whatever assistant he gets, really.

So, while not his hair, it's still the way he looks that you object to?
No one wants to say it, as it borders on dangerous ground, but certain roles should be played by people of certain appearences.

For example, you would not cast Sir Ian Mckellen as Shaft, and you would not cast Seth Rogan as Gordan Freeman. Nor would you cast Alan Carr as bond.

Well, you might do, but not many people would agree with you. Nor would they want to see the film.

Boo. Bring out Dylan Moran.
And this.

I've never seen Matt Smith act, so I can't fairly comment on that, but I really don't feel that he looks the part, which is fairly important - not the most crucial aspect, but still, with an iconic role such as this, it does matter.

Sir Ian Mckellan as Shaft? Damn, I'd queue for days to see that.
Alan Carr can die in a fire though, whilst being stabbed.

BTW,

Did you know he got his part by, allegedly, sleeping with John Nathan Turner, and was the youngest companion @ 18; he was also played in the audio series by Andrew Sachs, of "Woss and Bwand" fame.
Despite my dislike of him, he still had one of the best deaths.

But I couldn't take Dylan Moran as the Doctor; he'd make a fantastic embittered Master though.

"I tell you what ***** me off about ******* Doctor **** Who, he ******* thinks he's so ******* ******* ****** ******* all the ********* time!"

Actually....maybe not...

I think he's a little young to play the role, he's playing a bloke who's lived for hundreds of years and the best they can do is a 26 year old?
Coming 2010:
The Doctor has battled his way through time and space with hundreds of powerful foes. Daleks, Cybermen, the Slaveen and now meet the Doctor's greatest foe yet, Acne and his first crush!

Everyone'll be a bit apprehensive, then after a few episodes we'll all cease to notice.

They're using up regenerations practically once every year now. Isn't there supposed to be a limit on how many lives he has?

That's true the doctor is the same character, the assistants on the other hand! (when do they announce that?)

someone seems to have gotten "26" and "16" confused

Also I reiterate that Peter Davison (5th Doctor) was 29 when he started the role.

Yes, but he was still a man unlike this bellend.

edit: I swear that quote button moved... Point still stands tho: if they wanted a female Who, the least they could have done was pick one with boobs.

He won't take over until 2010 it says, that means a whole solid year of arguing before we can even see the first episode.

You think we can keep the thread going for that long?
lol you got a point there, though from the way this is going the day before the first episode someone will have posted "friggin emo hair" and then 24 hours later there'll be a stream of "OMGZ HE WAS AMAZINGZ" 'cause Fate loves making people eat their words.
Alright, only 360 days to go...

no, no, no. i don't really watch the show anyway but to me he does not look right. I wasn't a fan of David Tennant (his eyes were weired) but looked more the part than Matt.

wow, a doctor that looks like he is on drugs...
His visage is the stuff nightmares are made of.

A cross between Max Von Sydow and the protagonist in the movie Powder.

I'm going to wait till this guy has gotten a few episodes under his belt before I cast any major sort of judgement on him. The hair does look a little weird but that can be fixed with ease.

this choice only reminds us of just how far British Civilization has fallen... WTF...

David Tennent & Chris Eccleston did a really really good job as the best Doctors since Tom Baker, but their relatively short tenures as The Doctor, I think point to a basic mismanagement within the BBC...

sad sad day for a good and interesting franchise
