so as it turns out theres a new Infamous game coming for the PS4

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2013/02/infamous-second-son-is-a-playstation-4-exclusive/

I guess I shouldnt really be surrpised (though I am...a little) though as much as I am a fan of infamous this wont sell me on a console

so anyway judging from the teaser its taking a different direction, more "watch dogs" like as you can see about paranoia and government controll blah blah blah...its also obvious that this is a new story with a new main charachter

now on one hand its a good thing, coles story is over. Also I guess in a way it makes sense..after the devestation that took place previous two games the government craking down on "conduits" and beefing up security is a possability

[i/]personally however this aparent "x-men" aproach really doesnt apeal to me, part of the reason I loved Infamous 2 was because it avoided it alltogether...that and "fight da power" is..kind of old

there's alot of assumptions I can make here...if we assume that guy there is our main charachter (it would be too much to hope for a fmelae one I guess) then let me guess..he's probably "troubled and a little rebellious" which in thease things generally translates to "asshole", I'll be interested to see if I'm right there, thankfully though at least infamous games allow you NOT be an asshole

Honestly, that teaser kind of pissed me off. Dev got on-stage, hinted at a potentially interesting, political game. Got me thinking about all the unique, refreshing mechanics and stories that such a game might deliver. And then... he revealed a game about dudes with superpowers killing dudes with guns. Yawn.

(That and the Killzone trailer. "This seems like it'd be a pretty cool environment to interact with, too bad there will be the inevitable explosion that transforms it into a setpiece shooter. Oh look, there it is.")

To me the whole trailer was basically Infamous: Donte's Revenge.

it was rather cliche...

and for the love of god can we PLEASE have a game/story that involves meta humans thats DOESNT have the government/military be the bad guys and the government go all "x-men"

As long as rock is popular, you will always have that "stick it to the man" dark badass attitude. It's super marketable, in the same way that gangster culture is marketable with rappers and Italian movies. I wish that there was another type of character available, but oh well.

I couldn't get into Infamous 2 for some reason. Maybe I'll revisit it at some point. This game looks alright, but I have to agree that the culture they've placed around it is old.

I hope this shall be a spin-off, or a "What if" scenario, as messing with anything to do with the original games two stories would be ruining a perfectly good story.

Well, two perfectly good stories, actually.
well from what little we know it could still fit

as I said, after the devistation seen in infamous 1 and 2 you might get a post 911 scenario...hell in most dystopian fiction alot of the totalitarian worlds come after some kind of near cataclysmic disaster, also "good" endings are generally considered canon I think

So... they going to explain why there's Conduits (or humans) in this one? It does kinda shit all over inFamous 2's ending...

Well seeing as the good ending in iNFamous 2 pretty much put an end to all of the conduits. They could be spinning off of the bad ending where Cole is basically killing of all non-conduits. Though I'm not sure how that would work as the ending showed Cole being unstoppable and the virus killing all those that weren't conduits.

only ever implied but very easyly ignored....non conduits could have finally won out, an easy handwave in other words

I hope it's happening parallel to the main series. I really hope they don't retcon that (possible) ending. The name seems to imply the main character has some ties to the First Sons, likely him rebelling against them. I know the whole "Fight the government" stuff is pretty cliché, but at the very least it might have some interesting villains.

Like for example, one guy who can control electronics, and uses the security cameras to lock into your position to hunt you down throughout the game. Or a politician that can control the minds of people to make them fight you, and you get a moral choice to avoid them or kill them.

Also, fire powers? Bleh, I preferred electricity or ice.

I never liked inFamous very much. A sandbox game with superpowers is a really cool idea, but I was turned off by the extremely binary morality system and plot and characters I couldn't get invested in.

So where's the lightning?

That mechanic played heavily in how you interacted with the world; Can't touch water, use outlets to heal yourself, use powerlines to travel quickly. Lets hope they can merge this red cinder/fire power with a decent traverse mechanic the same way the previous games did.

I rather liked the look of the Infamous games. Never played them, though my flat mate did and he didn't seem too inspired. Then again he doesn't like Mount and Blade which does render his judgement highly questionable.

Anyway, PS4 exclusive so I'll never get to play it.

It is but at the same time it seems more relevant than it used to be, what with the loss of privacy and the stupid shit we put up with in the name of security. It certainly seems more timely than it did in the 90's when the U.S. government wasn't beefing up surveillance and security in the name of ... anything.
but its soooo

over

doooooooooooooooooooooone

every second comic/videogame and a bunch of other media....the whole "society/government opresses the special people" and the government/army being the bad guys.....the whole "civil liberties" angle is somthing that may be relevant/different It just depends on how this is all handled I guess, just looking at this little teaser though its looking very painfully cliche

[quote/]
Let's not start this please. Gender wasn't relevant to infamous before, it probably won't be relevant now.
its not a gender debate....its just very very very VERY wishful thinking, when they have a chance to do an all new charachter and we get dante2.0 [footnote/]of coarse ONLY from what we can see..I'm making no assumptions of coarse[/footnote], I just tend to daydream about what could be

OT: As much people have told me how good the InFamous games are, it's not enough to make me want a PS4.
GAAAAH put that away!

actually its kind of related to my earlier point, its almost as if they are making this^ guy our new protagonist...at least cole was a little more distinctive as far as game protagonists go

See Infamous 1 and 2.
while those themes WERE definetly presant they werent front and center...more so in the first one granted, but cole is mainly dealing with helping people in empire city and clashing with the other conduits and yeah the thing with the whats her name

in infamous 2 he's dealing with some militant rednecks..and their leader who [spoiler/]is a conduit himself and so disgusted by what he is hates other conduits....
somthing I really enjoyed, between that and trying to fight the beat thegovernemnt/army has even less of a presence

I did'nt get a InFamous feeling from the trailer and that worries me.
It looked more like Prototype actually.

I'll wait for more info/screens/whatnots though,Infamous is a great series.
Just did'nt expect this, i guess.

he was slightly ginger and originally had a bit of a goatee

sad as it is in videogameland thats distinctive..at least distinctive enough they feel have to make him even more generic 0_0

Looks exciting, but not really liking the new protagonist. I liked Cole, he was pretty badass. This guy just seems like typical "douchebag character A". I dunno. But I am loving the new fire powers, that's some sm3x1 flames.

EDIT: Nah, this wont sell me the console. But it does make it look a lot cooler. I loved both of the InFAMOUS games, so I could see myself enjoying this one too.

I'm hoping inFamous is going to be a sort of FF style brandname. It implies superhero (open world?) and beyond that they're free to do whatever they want
