When you're making a Silent Hill game set in a small Japanese town, aren't you more or less just making Siren?

When you're making a Silent Hill game set in a small Japanese town, aren't you more or less just making Siren?
Siren don't have people being turned into flowers with having their face peel off. I've noticed in the comments section for the trailer, people are making more Fatal Frame references/comparison than Siren. I did not expect that.

True, I do like the floral motive SH f has going for it a lot.

Guess more people have played Fatal Frame than Siren. Probably for a reason, I could never get into the series myself, I've watched the SGF LP of the first game.

True, I do like the floral motive SH f has going for it a lot.
Those flowers are spider lilies, which are associated with death in Japan and East Asia. It's not uncommon to see them laid at a loved one's grave, but you should never give them to a living person (it means you want them dead).

Bloober has confirmed they will be working on Silent Hill 1 Remake. They'll probably get started on that after they finish their own original project, Cronos.

Oh, sweet. Hopefully this one works out well too; I never got the chance to play SH1 before either.

It holds up pretty well. Enemy designs are a bit bland and the plot... well, it's a Lovecraft pastiche with the New England town and the demon worshipping cult and the ancient evil god. But it's super well paced and probably still has my single favourite setpiece in the series.

I'm looking forward to the story and the art direction and the music but the gameplay seems like yet another attempt to increase the focus on combat which has never worked out well for this series.

Maybe this one's gonna break the mold but somehow I doubt that adding a stamina bar , of all things, is what's finally gonna solve the combat question in Silent Hill. Like, I'm not saying they should go full walking simulator with it, as good as PT was, I don't think a full game that would mechanically just be that would be any decent. But I think what would work best for Silent Hill would be combat that's tense and difficult and most importantly infrequent.

Like, it comes back to what I said about combat in survival horror, during regular gameplay, trying to take on an enemy directly should ideally be the last option after "sneaking past" or "running past" and if you're actually locked in a room with a monster with no other choice you should better feel like you're fucked unless you either saved up your health and ammo supplies, or you use the ones you do have really efficiently.

Which does make me wonder whether you'll ever get a gun in this game. Considering its set in 60's Japan I'l figure you'd only come across one if the game takes you either to a police station or a Yakuza hideout. I don't think hunting was ever much of a thing there? Either way, if it's all melee the weapons will probably break with use.

She will never pick up a gun. Guns aren't available in this game. It's all melee weapons. When she is in the other world, she will get weapons that have unlimited durability. Though once she leaves the world, she can't take the weapons with her. You could hold up to 3 breakable weapons when in the normal world.

It's implied Silent Hill has or can spread to other places. As seen in parts of SH3 & SH4. How one other world looks may look completely different than somebody else. That one is pretty much implied and stated, even in SH2. The looks ate different, but this is clearly a Silent Hill game, with Fatal Frame and Siren inside of it.
