The combat looks clunky, but I like that. It's more realistic and brutal: have you ever fought an armored opponent with a heavy weapon? Medieval combat is not graceful like some ninja anime. You have to use timing and distance to your advantage.
You know I've seen a group of people dedicated to recreating Medieval martial arts, and they're a lot more graceful and utilitarian than people would first think.

They would use a big armored glove to grab the sword blade so that they could jab it like a short spear to hit the chinks in the armor.
Which is pretty much the only way to use a sword against full armor. I appreciate Medieval martial arts, and I've heard it said that the training and skill is equivalent to the greatest of Eastern martial arts, but they're two different animals. Anyone who expects Skyrim's combat to look like DMC or Arkham Asylum doesn't really know anything about fighting.
Oh, yeah I totally agree. That's the upper echelons of the fighting style. Just like you find some martial arts that look more like a one-man police beating than anything out of the East. Mongolian hand-to-hand rings a bell.

Personally, I want the Hulk-smash stuff. It's fun.

I remember hearing you cant block with them... I hope that info is wrong.
I certainly hope so too, having to wield a shield to block becomes pretty annoying pretty fast. Ah well, hopefully some modders will make a mod that will allow us to block without a shield

Anyone else thought this looked exactly like Oblivion e.g. no real Improvements at all (especially in the Graphics department) and with all of the same faults e.g. heavy overuse of assets and the same or very similar Skillsystem...?
Original in HD here btw.: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-elder-scrolls/714852

Except that's not HD at all.

And since that's the only video I found, I doubt there is actual HD footage of the game yet.

Dragons: Yaaaaay!

Ragdolls: NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Why are ragdolls bad?. I enjoyed playing with the corpses, And I found some amuseing bugs with them....
Because they give everything this total lack of weight. Corpses don't feel like corpses, and enemies die in the most boring ways. In the days of Unreal Tournament 2003, back then ragdolls were fun. Now, with Euphoria and such, you can do much more fun stuff. And, as a bonus, no animation ever looks the same. So no more ridiculous cartwheeling into the air after a simple fireball. That might be fun to you, but you gotta admit, it kinda breaks immersion.
Well to be fair, when you're thrown like a rag doll by a dragon you're not going to have any weight for about for or five seconds, and I'm damn sure you're going to bounce.

Not really... In fallout they kind of fixed the weight problem... A bit... (To the point where I couldn't lift huge beahmeth corpses.)

But honeslty whats the alterntive?, Static corpses?.

I like to play with my victems body to demorlize them further or as I did in fallout left "Suicide" Sceanes in houses.
No no, you don't get it. The corpses can be all the ragdoll they want. I'm annoyed that the moment they die, they instantly ragdoll. No death animation, no flailing of the arms desperately trying to break their fall, no realistic impacts of arrows/fireballs. You can achieve all of that with Euphoria and still have ragdoll corpses after the death animation is complete. If anything, Euphoria makes it even MORE fun to dick around with. Have you ever played the Force Unleashed? Horrible game, but playing around with the stormtroopers was an insane amount of fun because of Euphoria. It just adds so many new and interesting stuff. I mean, if the technology is there, why not just use it? It'll only get better.

I was responding to his comment that Skyrim was the most beautiful game ever.

EDIT: I'm a bit annoyed that half the comments here are, "THIS GAME HAS DRAGONS AND YOU CAN SHOUT FIRE THEREFORE IT IS GOOD." I thought an RPG was judged based on the amount of choices and consequences it presents to you and the stories and characters they have instead of solely judging it on the combat.
First of all... no, RPG's are not judged on consequences of choice just as much as FPS's aren't judged on how realistic the weapons are.

They are broad genres that encompass many things. If your logic was the case Bioware would fail every time due to how shallow the choices are (completely readable story choices, and nearly non-existent levelling choices) and the Witcher would be game of the decade.

An RPG only has to be a Role Playing Game. Whether you are given a role to progress through, or giving a choice of roles, you are still playing a role. Classic RPGs were famous/notorious for number crunching during the awkward transitions from table top games to video games, but that isn't what RPG's are ruled upon. Only a handful of RPGs actually smack consequences onto your choices and even fewer do it right, the majority are just grind fests and power levelling.

We don't know anything of the story, but TES is famous for filling their games with stuff beyond the main plot.
We don't know anything of the characters, but RPGs are notorious for carbon copied stereotypes with appropriate get-ups for the themes in use.
So according to your description, every RPG should be the Witcher, witch wasn't a perfect game mind you? (unless you meant bioware games or Final Fantasy... but how could that be?)

EDIT: I'm a bit annoyed by egotists who think their judgement of a game is sound, and therefore justifies belittling other peoples excitement towards a new instalment of a much loved series. I thought the enjoyment of a game is subjective and not determined by narrow, singular opinions.

From what I have gathered, based more on observation then actual fact, is that your armament selection dictates the flow of combat more then any other TES title.

For Defence and Tanking a person would equip a sword and shield combo.

For Speed and Dexterity a person would go Bow and Arrow.

For Strength and Damage they would wield 2 handed weapons.

For Speed and damage they would wield dual weapons.

I imagine they will allow you to switch up on the fly, but for the sake of limiting what you can do with each combination I imagine they have to restrict certain things for them. Sword and Shield will probably be more counter orientated, Dual weapons or Two-handed weapons restrict your defences but amplify your attack damage (the former could rely on speed to keep the player safe, while the latter relies on endurance)

I doubt the game would penalise a player too much for any one combo, but it has to make each one unique otherwise a players choices wouldn't have any weight.

Just my thoughts, might turn out to be completely wrong, but its a promising notion.

I'm not feeling it. Graphics look pretty mediocre, and the combat is much too clunky-looking. Not to mention Bethesda has a terrible repuation for writing, so this is probably going to have a very poor story.
I don't really care about the story but Bethesda seems to be sailing into the perfect shitstorm with this. At first I was hesitant because they're using a new engine and it usually takes them about 6 years to work the kinks out.
On top of that, this is apparently being developed on the consoles (360 I'm betting) and being ported over which is a first for them and will probably make for glitches of New Vegas proportions.

You know, I actually think that you CAN block while dual-wielding. The reasons why I believe this is because of this interview
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-elder-scrolls/715403
Watch from 0:26. There is a scene where he is dual wielding two swords, and after striking the guy once, the animation after that looks ALOT like the block animation from Oblivion. Also, I noticed in some other interview that he pummeled someone with the shield, so maybe pressing the Left Trigger or Left Mouse button, you attack with the shield instead of blocking. Maybe blocking has just been moved to another button

New upload here. Unfortunately the whooping retards haven't been silenced. You'd think if you went to the presentation you'd actually, I dunno, want to hear what he's fucking saying.

The game looks impressive... but impressive presentation is one of the big things for Bethesda.
I don't like the implications though. Farming dragons, farming dungeons, farming towns. Lots of filler, little significance. They talked very little about the story, which I'll overlook if the combat is good enough, but I don't see many special things about it. Dual-wielding anything and shouts sound interesting but not excessively fun.
They've talked plenty about quest-related stuff.
