Who the hell needs an american quart of coffee? What kind of serious hangover or deadline-rush are you experiencing where that is even possibly justified?
I mean, hell, I sometimes make tea or coffee in a one (UK) pint tin mug, but you don't fill those to the brim, it's already considered "for emergencies", generally takes time to get through, and I can feel my innards sloshing about afterwards...
(did two on the trot over about the space of an hour at the weekend as I was utterly dehydrated after helping some friends strip out a room for redecorating and there was no time left for beer... was a bit sick by the end of it, and both servings went cold)
And OK you may consume several pints over an evening in the pub, but that's not hot drinks (and arguably lower diuretic/calorie content) and you're usually sticking around for some hours - and whizzing it all out again at quite a pace...
Not that anything of this ilk regarding coffeeshops / cinemas / USAian chains / etc surprises me any more. The default setting seems to be "disgusting porker"...
EDIT: Alright it may not be normal coffee, but I seem to remember someone mentioning to me that Iced Coffee has even MORE caffiene than the normal stuff. You're going to be buzzing off your face after downing that.

Well that sort of progression wouldn't really apply here. It'd be a never ending and confusing progression of medium-large, large, extra large, stupid large, and all-new insanely goddamn inexcusably massive. Bit harder to con easily-led consumers into buying a dangerously OTT (and pricey) item that way. Long time since I went into a starbucks but I don't recall the actual volumes being noted next to the silly faux-italian names...
