I'm glad they ditched the continuity from Origins. Mostly because it was dumb. Also, this would be a good indicator that the Deadpool movie with hopefully also ignore the events of Origins. I like Wolverine as a character, but given the recent mediocre schlock that Wolverine has been in, I'm looking forward to a Deadpool movie way more and am glad that the precedence has been set that Origins didn't really happen (like Highlander 2: The Quickening).

Oh come on people, let's not do this now. No more reboots and no more separate continuity, if your story doesn't fit into he ongoing story then make a new character and a new movie. Or find a time period where you can shove it in. Let's not make a big mess for anyone trying to keep track. (or just fuck it and go with anti-continuity from now on).

Wow Darren Aronofsky...this might actually be a movie worth seeing and not some shit show that they slopped together in a span of 6 months. Origins sucked, X3 sucked, and to a lesser extent X2. With a little luck maybe this is the Wolverine movie I won't drink to forget about.

So can we all pretend that Deadpool never existed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and that X3 never happened?
That would be a good thing.
They fucking screwed Deadpool over in the movie. Who the hell sews up a character's mouth when he's dubbed the "Merc with a Mouth"?

Well, this news surprises approximately no one. Seriously, what the fuck is so damn fascinating about Wolverine that he gets so much more screen attention than any mutant with a legitimately interesting backstory?
The fact that his backstory is a mystery even to himself, perhaps?
Besides, didn't they say they were making a few origin movies.

Or maybe that was my brain in denial.

I am cautiously excited for this movie. They needed to get rid of that last Wolverine movie, it sucked so hard.

So the continuity of the X-Men movies is looking to get as confusing as the continuity of the X-Men comics?
Goody; I'll start making the flow-chart.
Higher level abstract mathematics is required. And more than three dimensions. Good luck with that.

As for continuity, Hulk proved that.

Ok guys, we get it. You have a hard-on for Wolverine, now will you please give the rights to Marvel!?

Movie-to-movie continuity works fine unplaned. Movie-to-movie continuity stops working when you start getting loose with it, start changing actors, make a sequel 20 years later with younger actors, and make such a discrace out of yourself with some entries (dudepeel, lol) that nobody wants to remember them.

lol, this is priceless. The x-men have such a damn tangled continuity, it's a mess of alternate timelines and stuff, but now it seems even the movies are getting like that. Way to go guys!

quality of the movies aside, I never really got Wolverine as a standalone character. He was only ever really interesting to me in his interactions with the other x-men.

And wait. I didn't know First Class was going to be a different continuity. That's dumb. Marvel needs to figure out some way to reclaim its rights to X-Men and Spider-Man movies.
Actively boycott the movie if you want that to happen. Rights will be returned if these movies aren't making money. I'm seriously considering this course of action at this point. It depends on whether or not I can convince anyone else to join my cause. I can't exactly hang out at the theater indefinitely.
Bu-but... I love comics so much that I would see nearly any movie! Can't everyone else boycott the movie for me?

:(

Seriously though, I don't think the X-Men movies have been making too much money; at least I don't remember Origins doing too well. Even if I end up being one of those few who really do see it (if I don't wait for it on DVD, which is actually possible), how many other people will see it after the first one was so poorly received?

Add it to my list of things to do when I go back in time: convince Marvel to put in its contract that they get rights back to Spider-Man and X-Men movies in, say... 2009.

Given how profoundly they let Ratner ruin the main franchise with X3, how bad Wolverine was and how promising First Class sounds, this is probably the best thing for all involved. Given that Fox is only still making "X-Men" movies to prevent Marvel from reclaiming the rights (even if they lose money, no studio employee wants to be "the one who let it get away" if Marvel snatches it back and makes a billion off of "Avengers versus X-Men" or whatever) and Jackman needs to keep playing Wolverine because he hasn't found any financially-stable success outside the character; might as well just drop the linkage and make the best movies possible.

Well said, Bob! Well said!

By the way, an Avengers vs. The X-Men movie would quite possibly rule! As long as they don't get Ratner to do it. (Before any comic book fans come and molest my corpse, I'm an alpha nerd. A.k.a. I take an interest in these things, but if something awesome sounding that could be canon shifting is planned, I jump all over it)
