Fuck Off anyone who thinks Nickelback are shit. They're not. They're a brilliant band demonstrating some true skill with their instruments (given Chad Kroeger's voice can be annoying and a bit whiny but that's only 1 instrument out of 6 that's not that good and 5 out of 6 instruments that they play better than most of you). Their music might not appeal to you but that doesn't make them shit, that just means their music doesn't appeal to you. When you can play stuff of their level or above Then you can talk shit, untill then what do you base your argument that it's hit on? that you don't like it?
Ooooooh that's a solid argument :-|

Fanboy-Flame aside: i think it'd enrich a few more lives to learn to play guitar rather than guitar hero, but w/e floats your boat - if you're more into guitar hero than playing guitar you'll never be an amazing guitarist anyway as you won't have the drive for it
if everyone thinks they're shit, theypre probably shit

While I don't really have an opinion of them, I think that opinions of the actual skill of the band is somewhat irrelevant and at least they're out there trying. Maybe those who think they are not good could take this as a sign that more talent is necessary.

I don't think it's a bad thing to want people to play less video games and learn new skills.
However, most people I know that play Guitar Hero/Rock Band and don't play the guitar/drums/sing/whatever wouldn't have played the real variety to begin with. Some of them became inspired to learn based on playing the games. Most of the really good video game guitar/drum/other players I know actually do already play in the "real world" (you know, that place with all the fresh air and sunlight that burns us precious).

Again, not a bad idea, but sometimes not necessary to preach it, and definitely not good to stereotype. I crunch numbers at work full-time, work on my next degree 3/4 time, play real-world trombone, play soccer, do minor to moderate home and auto work for family members, I'm my friends' and family's IT hotline, am a lay-leader of my church, and I play video game guitars when I have a spare moment. My life's full enough without learning a new skill, thanks.

If you are on the Escapist talking about the time spent on Guitar Hero being enough time to learn a real guitar: the same argument could be made of any genre, time playing shooters or strategy could be better utilized in the military or law enforcement. However, with doing the real thing, you need more discipline, and there's more risk. While you could still enjoy it, it's less recreational. That's kind-of the whole point of escapisim and video games. Time could always be better spent, but sometimes that's not the point.

Nickelback should learn to play their own guitars before whining about people who play Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

To anyone who defends Nickelback as a good band, I submit for Exhibit A, "Photograph."

Yes, kids! Go out and make a best selling album RIGHT NOW. And then start your own banks! And then establish your own car manufacturers!

See where I'm going with this?

It's really easy for such a massive band to tell people to do what they did as if it's laziness and nothing else which is stopping them. I wouldn't really say he's on a high horse because this doesn't strike me as arrogance...just it's a bit silly. There's nothing wrong with playing some Guitar Hero, the same way that you shouldn't stop playing Call of Duty and join the army instead.

I'll stop playing Guitar Hero when Nickelback stops sucking.

By the way, the lead singer is a degenerate drunk driver so frankly the only thing he can do to improve the world is drive into a wall and die.

Hearing that is enough to make me pick UP Guitar Hero again. I honestly dislike that band intensely (given that they`re won the 'Ed The Sock "Every Song Sounds The Same"' award with every album (Canadian TV peronality).

And I have to agree =D

I personally really like Nickelback, but I don't get his point about Guitar Hero.

I mean, even if everyone does stop playing, it does not mean that suddenly there are going to be a sudden burst of rock bands. Not being funny, but pressing a few buttons, and the odd sliding your hand down to get the 5th button, is completely different to learning how to play a proper guitar. And, if we're honest, we are more likely just going to give it up when it gets too hard and pick our controllers back up.

Alright, even if the entire Escapist community hates Nickelback, they still sell a crapload of concert tickets and CD's. Any band should aspire to be as successful as them.

But on topic, I think I might agree with Chad Kroeger. If there aren't that many rock bands left, then maybe we need more. He targeted an audience with an obvious interest in music. It was a broad generalization to only say 'Guitar Hero', but I think he means all music games. Maybe if we had as many kids who played Rock Band starting rock bands then we would find talent out there. Then these 'crappy' bands like Nickelback will be replaced by new, fresh bands. Then, we could ***** about how the next band sucks so much. *Sigh*, it never ends.
