8 Hours and people are disappointed? Really?

Arkham Asylum is supposed to be 5 times bigger than the first game which could be explored with great depth. I still haven't finished the first game fully so this is fantastic but not surprising news.

If they want to promote it maybe they SHOULD put an estimate on how long an ordinary gamer could play through it. I'm certainly hoping for much more than 8 hours of Batman.
Normal playthrough should expect 20-24 hours [http://games.uk.msn.com/gaming/photos/photos.aspx?cp-documentid=156434569&page=15]

I'm going to beat it in Seven Hours ,Biatch.
Sounds more gangly. Anyway, 8 hours on speed? GOW II was 8 and a half hours on a normal run! Fuck, I have this, Fallout 3 to ace skills through, Mass Effect 2, I haven't even bought Red Dead Redemption and now this? Damn you, Rocksteady! It would take me about 20 hours+ to see and find everything.

By the way, you better high-tail it and see the rewind trailer in IGN. It is crammed with details.

May I ask you a favor? Please don't say anything else about AC until October, the excitement is killing me!!!

I'm sure I can get at least 30 hours from this, probably 50. I'm gonna have to find everything, ya know?

mmm it's kinda short, but it being a sandbox it will last forever running around, pretending to be Batman. It's hard to measure playtime for a sandbox game because the more you let your imagination go wild, the longer it will be and the more fun you'll have.

+1 for you for the Knife Eye Attack link, John.

Anyway, 8 hours for someone who knows everything means a lot more time for me. Hurray!

Dr. McNinja reference from John = winning in a way that is usually reserved for Charlie Sheen.
I know it's a meme, but still: the concept that Charlie Sheen thinks anything he's done recently qualifies as winning is hilarious. And saying that anyone is "winning" in the same way as Sheen just seems insulting. :p
Hah yes, you may have a point there, but this was supposed to be positive.

Indeed Sheen is an incoherent narcissistic twat whose brain has been fried by the ridiculous amounts of drugs he's been taking.

How long does it take to beat Arkham Asylum anyway? All I know is that it felt perfect. Not short and not long. I think pacing of the story and those riddles in between were the key to success there. And Arkham Asylum did that great. After I finished the game I didn't say that it was too short and I didn't say that it took too long. There's not a lot of games that can do that.

Can't wait till the speed runners get their hands on it to continue the proud tradition of speedrunning Metroidvanias. Watching a proper speed run of something like Shadow Complex or Metroid Prime just gets me all tingly. ^_^

8 hours doesn't bother me at all. I poured a ton of time into the first one and didn't come close to 100%; I suspect this one will be just as satisfying.
I'm not saying you're doing this, but everyone seems to be thinking, "Only 8 hours?!?" and missing the whole part where it's the guys who made the game completing it in 8 hours and not just us Schmoes. Also, they were only doing the main story missions and none of the sidequests. Yeesh, evidently reading comprehension has suffered since I graduated.
QA testers=not developers. A QA tester gets put in a chair with the game and is told "play this, then write a report".

Last week we had a guy from homefront making exactly the same claim and it turned out his QA were a bunch of retards who took twice as long as the reviewers.

Naruto and Ninja are two words that cannot be in the same sentence.
Naruto features no ninja's, only tragically bad designed flawed characters who think they are ninja's.
They're on drugs i guess.

I don't care how long it takes. Just as long as Batman is still able to walk the dinosaur!

Serious: Well, that's a good thing. Take an ok length as long as you just do the normal stuff.

This is awesome news, should have a great length to the point where it doesn't overstay it's welcome then. Plus I finished both Uncharted games in 8 hours, so it's not always the length that's important. Should be about 12- 15 hours or so then for the average person? Replay value sounds like it will be welcome.

I noticed a lot of people still can not read an article properly...

Almost like the Homefront story.
Except Homefront has nothing else to do in single player and feels more like a movie than a game (in a bad way), and the story builds up to getting fuel tankers over the Golden Gate bridge instead of say, retaking Colorado, or even a small town in Colorado. And it's another generic FPS with CoD controls (it did have a good opening and first level though, but the rest falls flat). And the devs admitted it was focused on multiplayer when they marketed it as as a single player game. And I predicted ALL of that happening.

How? If the speedrun is 8 hours that means a regular run should be much longer. Homefront is 5 hours for any decent player.
Hence the word "almost". Almost, makes a big difference ;)

A movie ticket costs $10. A movie lasts 90 minutes to 2 hours, assuming a generous 2 hours that is $5 an hour for entertainment.

A single player game they want to charge $60 for needs to have at least 12 hours of unique gameplay, not counting backtracking, to be as good of a value as a movie ticket.

well we know how fast ninjas can do it, but how fast can BATMAN do it?

batman is superior to ninjas in every way. (as are pirates and viking but i digress)
Batman would complete it in roughly one hour seventeen minutes. But first he'd get to a gameover screen in the first half hour, but it would just be a trick to make all of the villains in the game gather around his coffin, then he'd burst out and reveal that it was a trap.

I assume that if he got this game, batman would reprogram it to make all of this possible.

Cause he's batman.

Aye, was thinking the same, but he's basically talking about a speed run. We've seen remarkably long games done in ridiculous speed runs before so yeah, it's probably gonna be pretty long. Especially considering the fact Arkham Asylum had a good deal of investigating going on (that those guys, knowing the whole thing, didn't do in that time) and planning for silent takedowns (especially if you're a perfectionist like myself), which again, gets to take a lot less time when you learn your environment completely.
