I can tell that Nintendo are going to live to regret this. I mean, seriously? You can just borrow a game from your friend and then play it whenever you want.

But wouldn't that hurt developer sales because people would just "Borrow" games from their friends and then install them on their system, effectively saying "F--- You" to every developer working on a 3DS game? I'm calling this fake until proven otherwise.
Considering the proliferation of the R4 cartridge and its kin? This is probably an infinitely preferable solution.

Wow, what an amazing development! It's not like we've been doing this since the GBC, with R4 cards, EZ-Flash 3in1 and their ilk.

Why is the little slider on the same side as the d-pad? surely it would've made more sense to put it on the right beside the buttons so the could go for a dual analogue style.
Perhaps the same could be said of all handheld consoles...

At first I thought the new 3DS was going to be a load of crap, well now its a load of golden crap. I don't know if I really trust the 3D aspect completely so ill waist a few mothers post release to consider buying it.

I'm really hoping Nintendo doesn't add in some strenuous DRM to the games, the only one I think would make sense and not be detrimental would be only downloading to one console at a time. Then when you reupload your data to the cartridge you can then install it on another 3DS. Though again this relates to the "What happens if you break your 3DS or if it get's stolen" thing where now your games are bricked until you can get them unlocked.

I am looking forward to this console though, it seems to have everything short of a kitchen sink.Next week, they announce it's ability to keep you hydrated.

Maybe they do some light DRM where at the point of installation, the 3DS talks to a server and registers the specific cartridge as installed on the specific device? I wouldn't mind that. After all, the installation is likely done at home before you go on your trip, so network should be available. Man, I wish my XBox 360 had that feature. Getting up and changing disks really works against my goal of becoming a world class couch potato.

And I'd prefer the free kitten. It's tastier.

You can't seriously be comparing third-party pirating tech to a legitimate, Nintendo-sanctioned built-in feature, can you?

Yes, the technology has existed for a while. But it's still an awesome feature to have.

So, let me get this straight: The 3DS has really does work [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101377-PilotWings-MGS-StarFox-Headline-3DS-Lineup], and the control slider is a better version of the PSP's analog nub. And now you're telling me I don't need to swap cartridges on the go anymore to play multiple games?
Wow...

I thought this would be another virtual boy, I thought Nintendo hadn't learned.

But... all of this?

70 games at launch? A lot of those games are remakes of some of the GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME? Agustable 3D WITHOUT THE $%@#ING GLASSES? Now, we don't even need to bring more then a couple of cartigages for a portable console?

This may be... the greatest gaming platform...

EVER!

I'm wondering what the limits on this are actually going to be, but hearing this it's like Nintendo has spies on my harddrive and read my "Here's how you can seriously cut down the number of PSP/DS piracy capable machines" article that I'm never going to publish.

Didn't the newest PSP do exactly the same thing?
No. This lets you copy your physical carts to the system memory, like the 360's install option, only you won't need the cart in with you in order to play it. PSPGO you needed to buy the games from the PSN store.

Wow, that's awesome.

And say what you will about Nintendo, but one thing they've always been consistently excellent at is making some of the most idiot-proof electronics in the world. I'm fairly confident that nobody will be getting bricked game cartridges because they dropped their 3DS in the toilet.

Well... I am, yes. They both functional identically, though the R4 &tc. are external storage as opposed to internal. And of course, one is legal while the other is (mostly) illegal.

So can I just borrow games from friends and install them on my DS I wonder.
NO! Don't you ruin this for us! I do not want DRM on my 3DS games!

Besides, It copies save data too and most likely transfers it back to the cartridge when you want to remove it from the list to make room for other games. We don't know how much space these games take up or how big the 3DS's internal storage is so there's no way to tell if you can hold 3 games or 10, so you might be swapping out a lot.

Meaning unless you don't care about save data, you might have to download your friends game again and again if you have your own collection of games. In which case you can't keep your save data.
I'm pretty sure I've read that 3DS games will store their saves on an SD memory card.
