Nintendo Doesn't Want DSi Associated With Porn

Nintendo...I love you...I truly do. But what you must understand is, that most video game nerds such as myself practically survive on porn. Just because you have child friendly Mario games doesn't mean you can't also release a game featuring Donkey Kong having a threesome with Zelda and Samus. Jeez, most of your fan base are single men in their late 20's/early 30's. This is the stuff we crave. Expand your horizons a little.

Disclaimer: anyone who takes that post seriously will be pimp slapped.
Can't we at least make it Link with Zelda and Samus to prevent Fox News from calling us practicers of beastiality. I would not put it past them to do that. And I'll take that pimp slap, please, because I put more thought into that senario that I should have.

OT: What Nintendo is doing does make sense. I really hate censorship, but if Nintendo don't do this, it's probably going to make California's job easier.

I don't think posing with video game gear is bad in itself, but making "Nintendo DSi" a search term to point to that site is going too far, in my opinion. I mean, sure, the two or three people out there who are deliberately googling "DSi porn" will be out of luck, but I have a feeling their luck has been empty for some time now.
Yep, I have to agree with this. And the last thing any company wants is to have some parent Google the names of their non-adult products because their kid asked for it for Christmas and have some porn site come up in the top results. Then it gets on FOX News and bye bye sales.

As long as they don't actually try to take down the porn then I won't cry foul,
Still if she was posing with one why shouldn't it be in the description?
Beacuse when you type a specific inquiry in a search engine, that engine will scan thousands of websites for text that matches that inquiry. So if a porn website includes the text "Nintendo DSi", it means that Google, MSN, Yahoo etc. will list that website if someone inquires about "Nintendo DSi", regardless if they were actually looking for that website or not.

While this is kind of heavy-handed, it's hard to blame Nintendo for trying to keep a family-friendly image. Plus, their demands aren't too unreasonable.

I'm with Nintendo on this one. There is no reasonable precedent for "Nintendo DSi" to bring up porn on a search, and making a single term even remotely NSFW sets up a completely baseless expectation for Nintendo to be anything other than family-friendly. Yes, it's the parents' job to keep porn away from little kids, but that doesn't mean it isn't a dick move to deliberately make that job harder.

I once read an article in a scientific magazine, that stated that no medium ever used for entertainment was accepted by the mainstream, before it was used for porn...starting with the book, to videotape to DVD...maybe it would be beneficial for Nintendo to be connected to porn :D

...and yes...it was a real scientific magazine (Spektrum der Wissenschaft, to be precise, the german edition of Scientific American), not some smut...

Nintendo would sue me for millions if they saw a certain file on my computer "Samus + Tentacle"

But I'd still argue any of those images are less demeaning to Samus than Other M.

I think there's been an overreaction in here. As long as it's comprehensibly flagged, google as well as other search engines will not show this page unless some filters are lifted, and still, I think typing "Nintendo DSi" will show a gazillion links to e-shops, magazines, official sites, fansites and virtual auctions before placing this one link at the very end. And even if it DID show Nintendo porn, I can assure you, it's impossible to control everybody who is constantly putting up offensive or pornographic pictures. Hell, you could even run into a "Nintendo DSi VIAGRA CIALIS OOPS NUDE XXX NAKED BRITNEY SPEARS PLAYSTATION 3" webpage with links to every kind of porn there exists.

I say ride it, Nintendo. Do not try to control what your consumers or fans produce in their homes and take the idea of your console being seriously taken as a sexual accessory out of your head.

Also, let's not forget 'Doki Doki Majo Shinpan! ~Maria' [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeALCDZfBYM] is a licensed Nintendo game.

Im gonna have to side with nintendo, from the sound of it this was a perfectly innocent request and wasnt even put as legally polite then most things, its not threatening a suit its just asking the word nintendo be removed

Am I wrong? Should it be up to people's parents to keep their kids away from porn when they're searching for information about kid-friendly handhelds? Porn has a way of making it to the top of many internet searches, and I think it's reasonable for Nintendo to want to keep "Nintendo DSi" safe for work.
It's reasonable, but not particularly their right. This sort of thing, if legal, would endanger media as we know it. Not just porn (And I'm assuming there have been like 50 Rule 34 jokes by now....), they could legally shut down media that uses their likeness outside the ready purview of trademark violation, and that's wrong.

I hate to side with the pornographers here, but I really hate cyberbullies and corporate bullying. What they're doing is wrong, even if they are doing it to protect kids. And they still won't protect the kids, regrettably.

You can't expect people to be bothered to raise their own children. People are too lazy, too self-absorbed, and there are too many other things that will do it for them.

This reminds me of when Nintendo fought about blood in games (aka Mortal Kombat). I think they're the same people who griped about Gameshark too. Let it go Nintendo.

I´ve seen the pics and it seems pretty obvious that the brand is being exploited here. Few people would be actually seeing those specific pics if it wasnt for the inclusion of the console. Otherwise, it´d be just ordinary porn.
BUT!! Nintendo is to blame too. Few would find the pics if Nintendo didnt make a fuss about it. I would never know they even existed!
