Nintendo, you can't beat Piracy, you can just fuck over your actual paying customers.

Seriously, Pirates will always find a way around your hardware, ALWAYS.
They already did that. My main reason to buy the 3DS was to have the newest Advance Wars in Japanese. I also HATE regionalization on principle. If you can't release the game on time for one country, why do you need extra time to release it in another? Makes no damn sense in the age of the internet.

Now?

Maybe this is just me.. but it really doesnt seem like Nintendo is even implying their stuff is uncrackable. More like they are indicating that the industry as a whole has become vastly more armed against it, and in some measure it is curtailing some would be pirates who were only doing it because it was so easy to begin with. With the added complexity these days, more of these would be pirates are seeing its simply not worth all the effort.

I thought I would never say it, but I think Nintendo is right. Will the 3ds be hacked? of course it will. Will it take very long? No. But will the measures to hack it be more complex than what most of the halfwit pirates are willing to do in order to do it? Prolly and if thats the case it will help reduce piracy.

I really dont think Nintendo is bragging about their product as much as they are pointing out trends of the industry as a whole. Something as simple as having steam exclusivity for example. Inevitbaly even steam games can become hacked. However its no where near as easy for someone to install. So it does keep some would be pirates away. Basically the less technically oriented ones. Its like an article about the PS3 jailbreak. You really dont want to mess with the people who are capable of installing Linux over top of your OS. Those people you wont stop, but the ones who can barely figure out how to run a disc image mounting program (which make up a large portion of pirates it seems) are not going to go through all the effort required. Basically if it has more than 4 steps many people have little or no patience for it.

That's right Nintendo, keep screwing with the gorilla in the monkey cage. This won't end well . . . . .

$10 says the 3DS is cracked within a week of release. Mostly because Nintendo was bold enough to make these comments.

Also, FYI Nintendo, the R4 was one of the least effective flash carts available for the DS. There were like ten different brands that all had better flexibility and compatibility.
Acekard 2i is the one I use, I love it

(I don't advocate piracy, it's for homebrew)

First thing I thought when I saw the title.

I understand why they did it though, reassuring the investors and what-not. But it's good to see that Nintendo is at least genre-savvy.

I sense a take-up in the Developer vs Pirates warz!

Only.... Pirates can't go to war on account of not being a registered country..... So i Dunno.
The US declares war on everything...See the War on Drugs if you need an example. And drugs aren't a country so I think you're alright.

I'm joining everyone laughing at Nintendo. They said it wouldn't be possible, so now people are going to set out to do it out of spite. I give it a month at the longest.

Quite frankly, for the sake of us import gamers, I hope Nintendo loses this fight as soon as possible. I wouldn't normally support such activities, but in light of their decision to region lock the 3DS, I have little sympathy for them in regards to this matter.

Hey, Nintendo, here is a tip. Do you know what is a good way to not encourage piracy? By not forcing your legitimate paying customers to resort to it in order to play their legitimately purchased games.

It's region locked? wtf Nintendo!?

Yes, I'm sure that one handheld platform that may be hard for pirates to crack will potentially spell the end of the piracy 'heydays'.
Ubisoft's DRM was one of the most obnoxious and intrusive DRM yet, and it was hailed as being uncrackable.
It took pirates all of several days to crack it.
I'm sure shitting on their customers was worth that.
Let's all do what they did and everyone can get despised by their customers together!
Yaaay!

Come on Nintendo now your just asking to get your precious 3DS hacked. If people want it bad enough they will find a way to have it. All in all I give it a two months before they hack it and that's at most. I would be surprised to see it take longer that that.

Well, you have poked the angry hornet's nest and I hope they sting you to death so I can play import games.

I still don't get why they took that out. Dumbasses.

Didn't a wise man once say: Do not tangle with the kind of people who install Linux on their Playstations? Good luck, Nintendo, not that I ever liked you.

They're absolutely right, pirates aren't going to be able to crack the 3DS, Nintendo's best people made the defenses, these crackers have no chance.

Was anyone able to read that without starting to think of how you were going to quote and mock/correct me? THAT'S WHAT YOU SOUND LIKE NINTENDO!

THE GALL![footnote]Moderator Edit: Please do not make low content posts on the forums. Thanks![/footnote]
"Low content post."
I was issued a fucking warning for that post, in which I stated my opinions on the subject matter of this stupid fucking thread in this stupid fucking forum in this stupid fucking website.
All because some asshole mod thought my post was not up to his standards.
Tell me, what made my post post worthy of such indignity? Not enough characters? Is this remedial English and I have to fill in the required 100 words before I can deign to post? YOU INSULT ME.
WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF HIGH QUALITY POST CAN BE DRAWN FROM A PURELY INFORMATIONAL TOPIC. This is no debate thread, no opinion thread, nor "List your favorite Jerk-Off ritual" thread. This is a NEWS THREAD.
ALL OF THESE FUCKING POSTS ARE LOW FUCKING CONTENT. Vacuous and predictable. The same basic fucking posts repeated over and over again, creating pages of useless text. Low content.

I am most likely going to be banned for this post. Banned for justified indignation against a worthless sack of shit that flaunted his "power" in front of me for not saying what he thought I should say.
Now, if you'd excuse me, I have a therapy session tomorrow and my grandfather just had a heart attack. Go fuck yourselves feaux-Escapists, and have fun deleting this post like I know you will.
Way to turn a warning into a ban, warnings are absolutely no big deal, so it makes no sense to go all apeshit over it like a child. I got like 2 in the last week, as long as you try to avoid what caused them it's absolutely nothing to get upset over, much less self destruct your account.

I agree with the moderator, you didn't even begin to explain why you think what Nintendo did was stupid or anything, your post was the equivalent of voting on a poll, which is to say it wasn't enough to justify a post. If what you have to say is only two words long, then don't bother publicly displaying it on the forum, it's not worth it, and it's a waste of everyone's time.

Luckily you have a chance to not get banned since you are four pages into the topic and it's late at night, I'm not going to report you because I think you deserve a second chance, you obviously care enough to get this upset over a measly warning, so I believe your account and this site is important to you.

Do yourself a favor and edit this post away, it's for the best, at least edit it away for a day, and if you feel it's still justified after you've given yourself a day to cool down, edit it back and accept the ban.

I would like to think piracy is on the the way out of fashion, that gamers are becoming more mature and respectful, willing to put aside their ire against all the dick moves of DRM pushers and simply play nice... I don't think that it's ever gonna die of litigation or copy protection.

For fuck's sake, Nintendo! Why would you SAY that? Why in the fuck would you say anything like that at all EVER?!

No matter what sort of statement you make, in the age of the internet, the louder your proclamation, the likelier it is someone will go out of their way just to prove you wrong.

This is basic shit here. We're talking 101 stuff.

I have a lot of respect for Nintendo, but honestly, pirates are going to take this bold declaration as a challenge, when Nintendo could have quietly released the specifics to key developers.

Perhaps they are overhyping it because... It isn't good?

And if it's too restrictive to actual customers, it could be a serious blow to their new console.

At the most a bold boast like this should come after the 3DS is released.

I give it a week for it to be cracked, 4 weeks for it to be widely available for sale. He's right about encouraging the bull, honestly I would have said nothing, just let them find out it's harder to crack, and don't start opening your mouth about it.
