If we Australians aren't in on either the price drop, the freebies or both, then I'll never buy a 3DS unless they release Mother 3 in English, either on hard-copy or Virtual Console. (For the record, if they did, the 3DS would probably sell like hotcakes and make millions of fans incredibly happy, including myself.)

Money isn't really a problem, and I find more value in the downloads ($50 at $5 each for 10 NES games and $40 at $8 each for 10 GBA games I never got that are about as advanced as SNES games) than $80.

But in the end, the question is: "Will I keep playing it more than the PSVita?" Let me count the features:
Vita: 2 analog sticks, one HD screen, 2 touch areas, Uncharted and (hopefully) inFamous, LittleBigPlanet 2.5 and Mod Nation Racers, and WiFi.
3DS: 1 analog rotator, two Wii-graphics screens, 1 touch area, NES games and (some) GBA games I missed, Super Mario Nostalgia Binge 3DS and Mario Kart WITH GLIDERS OMGGGGGG 3DS, and WiFi.

Sorry, Grandpa Ninty, but I got a new definition of fun.

Sorry but I still will not buy one because I do not like the idea that nintendo owns all of my data on my device. It is a handheld console and unless I choose to use it to buy games online, nIntendo has no business getting my personal data.

Also, I do not agree with the whole being able to turn my device into a ninten-brick remotely. I do think that if someone is caught pirating games then nintendo has a right to sue them, take them to court and have the device confiscated. However, I do not think that nintendo has the right to take the law into their own hands and interfere with MY private property which I PAID for without using the courts.

You need a search warrant to get into someone`s home, why not their personal gaming device.

*Hugs gameboy advance*

"The programme contains two elements:

1.Beginning Sept. 1st, Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES? Virtual Console? games at no charge and before they are available in Nintendo eShop for the general public. These games, including Super Mario Bros.?, Donkey Kong Jr.?, Balloon Fight?, Ice Climber? and The Legend of Zelda?, will be released as paid downloadable games, but Ambassadors can download them in advance of launch for free. Once the paid versions of the games are released in Nintendo eShop later in the year, the updated versions will be available to Ambassadors for download at no cost.

2. By the end of 2011, Nintendo will provide Ambassadors with 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games. These include games like Yoshi?s Island?: Super Mario? Advance 3, Mario Kart?: Super Circuit, Metroid? Fusion, WarioWare?, Inc.: Minigame Mania and Mario vs. Donkey Kong?. These games will be available exclusively to Ambassadors, and Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on Nintendo 3DS in the future."

From Nintendo of Europe's site.

What does the bolded part mean? We can download them before they are available, and once the paid versions are in the eShop, we van download the 'updated versions'? Does this mean the earlier free downloads aren't the full product?
The earlier downloads are the full game as it was when it was first released. The updated ones will be the 3d classics version that will be released later on (like excitebike)

I won't joke about "where are the games that aren't an established franchise, because by now that seems implicit, yet completely unnegotiable. :p
Wii new Nintendo owned IP

English release
Xenoblade
The Last story
Pandora's Tower

No English release
Zangeki no Reginliev
Captain Rainbow

So they do create new IPs and it's funny that people say they don't

yes i will have to agree that games and the need for a strong install base when good games come out is reason for this pricecut

That's way less then I paid for a 1st gen DS way back when they launced.

I thought this would happen, but I'm going to hold out in the hopes that they release one with a better battery.

The thing is Nintendo could have next E3 with all new IPs and say, one Mario game, everyone will focus exclusively on the Mario game, no matter if it's something like Mario Does Accounting, or the next game in the series.

There's also Steel Diver on the 3DS. It's kind of funny, when they made a new IP and brought back an old one (Pilotwings), they were criticized for not launching with one of their flagship franchises. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Well, there goes the competitive edge for the PSVita. I almost feel sorry for Sony, they made sure that they're competitively priced for once but then all of a sudden the 3DS is cheaper.

I was curious as to weather I needed to be in Club Nintendo in addition to having a 3DS before (at time of writing) midnight tonight in order to download the 20 games through the Ambassador Program. I then wikied the thing and know I don't need to. It just looks like all I needed to do was get on the E-Store which I've done.

Fun fact: Target (or rather, certain Targets) also initiated the 3DS price cut today.
