I am part of the group that still doesn't understand why you can't set up both control schemes. I do not want to have to move my arm, I like just using buttons, having to move a controller around makes me feel like I'm a retard and completely destroys the concept of immersion to me.

I actually have my doubts of that. A flagship series WILL going to show off the latest core controls. I don't know how having to switch between the tablet and remote will fair. That's right up there with switching from controller to standing up with kinect.

Nintendo, I LIKE most of the motion control implementations in Skyward Sword, but swinging Link's sword for a couple hours makes my wrist hurt. I had the same issue with TP and Mario Galaxy. Just put in a gamepad option as well.

I've only come across one enemy that couldn't be beaten by flailing my arm around like i'm having a seizure and I still haven't equipped a shield.

I'm not a fan of the motion controls, I either end up moving my arm to fast and it thinks I'm swinging in another direction or to slow and nothing happens.

The flying is fun but I'm constantly having to recenter my controller... this game could easily have been controlled by joystick movements.

DAMN! I hated TP's motion controls, and though I haven't played skyward, I have yet to play a game with motion controls that wouldn't play better with buttons so I have to ask.
Why can't you add multiple control schemes?
Seriously is it really that hard?

i'll get skyward sword eventually..but damn them to hell if they are going to require those controls from here on out.

too bad there isn't a pc release and someone would just mod kb+m and gamepad support for it..

The combat and quite a few puzzles were built around the idea of precise motion controls. These would have been quite literally impossible to build if the game had a standard controller, and it would be RIDICULOUS to ask them to make two different versions of the different enemies and puzzles to incorporate the more precise controls AND regular controls.

For the record, I wish it could be done (even though I love the new controls for Skyward Sword, it'd be nice for people who don't). But it just can't be done.

Isn't Nintendo the game company that doesn't want you playing that long in the first place?

Can't we at least be allowed to choose? Like, an in-game option to turn it on or off?
What if a long time fan of the game has a medical disorder, causing physical pain whenever they move their arms?

I bought a gamecube just to play Twilight Princess. Motion controls are the stupid. Specially whatever microsoft is trying out. Natal or something, oh yeah kinect. Stupid.

Sorry if I am being a bit nit-picky here but I am pretty sure you COULD use a Gamecube controller with the Wii version of Twilight Princess too. :p
Nope. Gamecube version for Gamecube controller. Wii version for Wii controller. Only Nintendo game I can think of off the top of my head that has it as optional is Brawl.

Anyway, if it just keeps getting better from Skyward Sword, I'm actually totally OK with it. The game's controls were AMAZING for a Wii game and a lot of fun, if a little awkward at times.
Yeah you're right. I could swear that I remember seeing someone do it, though he may have been playing the GC version on a Wii.

This pleases me. I love motion controls, they just make everything seem more fluid.

Well Legend Of Zelda had a good run. 25 years is a long time, looks like I wont be playing Zelda anymore.

Well then congratulations to Nintendo for finishing off my already waning interest in this series.
Ever since Majora's Mask I've treated LoZ games more like a morbid curiosity than anything else.

"I'll pick it up eventually, but I'll wait until I can find it used." was my standard response.

But I've had zero interest in Skyward Sword because I hate motion controls, I've only played two games on the Wii in which they worked worth a damn and both of those are the Super Mario Galaxy titles.

Nintendo only has three franchises I particularly care about (The Holy Trinity) and I Don't really even care about Mario or Zelda that much.
If they can't pull a spectacular recovery for Metroid out of their asses I can't see any reason to pick up another Nintendo home console in the foreseeable future.

This is my huge gripe with Nintendo right here, they refuse, absolutely refuse to simply have the most basic options in their games. Their console has more controller options than any console to date and they refuse to use them, instead they'd rather alienate the people who would like to play the game but who do not like motion controls.

There was a fairly lengthy article about this in a game informer article where a developer talked about his issue with other developers not allowing basic controller mapping and giving 3 layouts to pick from instead. He was not referring specifically to the wii itself but I think Nintendo could do better by adding basic controller options for once.

Honestly they better not make it FULL motion control in the future. Yes I have played and love Skyward Sword controls but I'm pretty sure if I had played anymore of it, my right wrist would of sustain more injury.

I never had a problem with the motion controls in either Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword.

Except for that one time where I was almost at the top of the great master tree in the woods and after knocking an enemy off the ledge I accidently used the "Finisher" move, jumping all the way after the damn monster. I was not amused.

That minor issue aside, it worked like a charm for me, and it would indeed feel like a step backwards if we were to go back to button mashing.

As a left-handed gamer, I am hoping this isn't true. Between the more lackluster recent additions to the handheld systems (for the most part anyways, and I'm not talking about any ports), making Legend of Zelda require motion controls just isn't smart. Hell, god forbid someone might not have full use of their appendages and is a major fan of the zelda games, then they'd never be able to play again.

Then of course, there is all the issues we've seen before. Imprecise tracking, interference from other sources (remember that was a major issue when the game was revealed, though I guess that was fixed, unsure), and it just doesn't translate all that well with some mechanics.
Right here. I hate motion controls, mainly because I literally can't use them. Thanks, Nintendo.

You can tell, if Link was left-handed (Sword in le left) it was the GC version. If it were right-handed, then it was the wii version.

I didn't think you could use a GC controller on the wii version, might just be playing the GC version on a wii like they said ^

As someone who's spent a good 60 hours in the Hyrule-to-be of Skyward Sword, I have no objections to this announcement. All I ask is that they continue to improve on the controls, as the ones featured in SS (while great and fun) had their fair amount of issues.

That said? It shouldn't be that hard to substitute the motion-based sword fighting with something that uses the right analog stick (on a GCN controller or the Wii U tablet) instead. The biggest problem would be balancing the difficulty between the two schemes, I think.
