interference from other sources (remember that was a major issue when the game was revealed, though I guess that was fixed, unsure
That was an issue with the special stage equipment they were using, and not something that happens when the game is played on a regular Wii.

I am part of the group that still doesn't understand why you can't set up both control schemes. I do not want to have to move my arm, I like just using buttons, having to move a controller around makes me feel like I'm a retard and completely destroys the concept of immersion to me.

Nintendo, I LIKE most of the motion control implementations in Skyward Sword, but swinging Link's sword for a couple hours makes my wrist hurt. I had the same issue with TP and Mario Galaxy. Just put in a gamepad option as well.

I've only come across one enemy that couldn't be beaten by flailing my arm around like i'm having a seizure and I still haven't equipped a shield.

I'm not a fan of the motion controls, I either end up moving my arm to fast and it thinks I'm swinging in another direction or to slow and nothing happens.

The flying is fun but I'm constantly having to recenter my controller... this game could easily have been controlled by joystick movements.

DAMN! I hated TP's motion controls, and though I haven't played skyward, I have yet to play a game with motion controls that wouldn't play better with buttons so I have to ask.
Why can't you add multiple control schemes?
Seriously is it really that hard?

*sigh*

i'll get skyward sword eventually..but damn them to hell if they are going to require those controls from here on out.

too bad there isn't a pc release and someone would just mod kb+m and gamepad support for it..

The combat and quite a few puzzles were built around the idea of precise motion controls. These would have been quite literally impossible to build if the game had a standard controller, and it would be RIDICULOUS to ask them to make two different versions of the different enemies and puzzles to incorporate the more precise controls AND regular controls.

For the record, I wish it could be done (even though I love the new controls for Skyward Sword, it'd be nice for people who don't). But it just can't be done.
yeah figured it would be that way as much. unfortunately...

just kinda peeved i finally have to stop using my trusty gamecube controller...had some good years together, the thing just WORKED, unlike the dildo + joystick combo that nintendo uses now.

Sorry if I am being a bit nit-picky here but I am pretty sure you COULD use a Gamecube controller with the Wii version of Twilight Princess too. :p
Mainly because Gamecube had games still be made at the time, sine Twilight Princess came out about the time Gamecube was dying. That is why.

Honestly, Nintendo, if your going to make a gimmick that sells, please, use that gimmick as much as humanly possible.

Damn - I was hoping they'd go away, the only reasons I've died so far in Skyward Sword are due to the lame controls - it's the only thorn on a perfect rose of a game :(
Yes, exactly. It's annoying to sit down and get ready to play, load it up, and - wait, you've have to find a flat surface. Wait some more. Okay, now point, wait, won't do it.... and there. Then clumsily have to select a menu without the help of the IR sensor. Today the controls wigged out pretty crazy over a cursor puzzle and I'm not sure the really challenging set of enemies that preceded that were hard because they were designed that way or because my controller was malfunctioning. I hate when I know exactly what I need to do to beat an enemy and the controller just won't let me do it. The batteries get eaten up like crazy, too.

This whole game is great, but reminds me of how annoyed I've been at every design decision Nintendo has made over the last five or six years. Why isn't in HD? Why can't I do this? Why does it have to load whenever I leave Skyloft? There is nothing in this game that couldn't be duplicated with standard analog controllers and I would love to see a mod to prove that.

Easy. Just map the sword controls to the right analog stick. Right swings right, left swings left. Untouched would be the standard neutral position and it would work better because it wouldn't be as difficult to find that position and you wouldn't have to have a "center" button to do it. Just leave the stick alone. Simple. Sure, you wouldn't have analog camera control, but it doesn't have that on the Wii either.

To be honest, I'm not sure how much I even value the "precise motion control" puzzles and enemies that it was ever even worth it to sacrifice control of the camera.

Question how the hell will they have that monstrous tablet be a suitable add on to motion controls? They're not going to make you switch between the 2 because that would be stupid design even by nintendo standards or maybe they'll have to use buttons to play.

That's why Zelda still hasn't got Voice acting even when some people ask, they respect their games :) If there will be voice acting it will be in hylian :D
Other M would like a word with you >.>

but this doesn't bother my the controls in TP where fine, so any further refinement will only make it better

Ah well, if they're going with Motion Controls, at least they're going with the quality of Skyward Sword's controls. Too bad the game has other flaws I can't look past, such as repetitiveness.

That's fine by me. Skyward Sword's motion controls are actually really good. They aren't perfect, but they certainly are the best that I've encountered on the Wii so far. They actually change my opinion on motion controls somewhat.

Metroid Other M's problem wasn't that it had voice acting.

Metroid Other M's problems were that

A. It was Metroid Other M

B. It had BAD voice acting

As for Skyward Sword's motion controls, they always worked just fine for me and I'm very happy with them.

My only disappointment with this announcement is that it seems Nintendo is limiting themselves to potential awesome new ideas for Zelda that could be derived from the tablet controller.

Also, the tablet controller isn't that much bigger than a classic controller at all, its not like its literally an iPad with buttons and circle pads.

Sweet. I am a fan of motion controls. They are not a pain to me in the slightest. I think this will be a great innovation forward.

actually i was aiming that at 'Nintendo respects their games'. Other M being a massive disrespect to Samus as a character

Jump attack used to be easier. Wiimote sometimes doesn't want to register my movements correctly (that first boss fight was a lot harder because of this). If I need a precise movement, it's usually not that big of a deal, but it's pretty much impossible to do two left swings after the other. Also, thrusting took a while to get the hang of.

Hopefully, the next console will have better motion controls. I like the idea, at least.

I think you're supposed to swing your arm at your elbow or shoulder. That wouldn't be a problem if most people's living rooms were the size of a football field like Nintendo seems to think. I hit the blinds if I'm not using my wrist.

Wow, I am slowly losing respect for Nintendo. I would usually be left in a position where I would be defending them, but I can't in this case. As a guy who played Skyward Sword (mostly so far) and used motion controls to mixed feelings, this is a mistake. The controls were good, but I know a lot of people who would rather play with a controller. A good friend of mine who is a devout fan and has played and beaten every Zelda game, hates the controls for this game, and won't be buying or playing the game. While I love the 1:1 motion controls, he hates them. The one problem I do have is always having to reset the cursor because it is constantly off.

What I'm saying is, don't take the option away from gamers to play a game how they wish to play it. That is stupid. You can't dictate how a person MUST play your game, because then you are losing customers, and I know Nintendo needs us.

This is my huge gripe with Nintendo right here, they refuse, absolutely refuse to simply have the most basic options in their games. Their console has more controller options than any console to date and they refuse to use them, instead they'd rather alienate the people who would like to play the game but who do not like motion controls.

There was a fairly lengthy article about this in a game informer article where a developer talked about his issue with other developers not allowing basic controller mapping and giving 3 layouts to pick from instead. He was not referring specifically to the wii itself but I think Nintendo could do better by adding basic controller options for once.
This is Nintendo they're dumbasses when it comes to PR now. They're suppose to allow more people to play I'm convinced if you're "intimidated" buy the buttons on the controller I'm sorry but you're not meant to play video games. Motion controls at first seem like a good idea yet for long run you'll enjoy games by playing them traditionally.

Because of how bloody tired I am I thought you were defending N. Whew that was close I was going to argue with someone who agreed, yay 2 hours sleep.

My problem isn't even if a game uses motion controls, the problem is they have a vast array of controllers and they force the players to use the motion controls. I've tried, I've tried so very hard to enjoy games but every game I've played (minus wii sports and rayman rabbids) would have been more fun and immersive with a controller. I know there's some that really do like the motion controls, but I'm one of the one of them.

Huge fan of Metroid, I mean that was the sale for me and the Wii, that and I sold my gamecube because there were no games that I liked on it minus Metroid. So got it got the Metroid gamecube titles and 3, I think 3 is fantastic but with those damned controls I felt like I was just flailing around inaccurately like an idiot.
