Well, I'm out.

Nintendo, as a card carrying fanboy for your company since 1992 I'm afraid this is where we part ways. I have waited for you to outgrow this "Wii" phase of your life, but I just can't wait any longer.

I'll send for my things in the morning.

As a left-handed gamer, I am hoping this isn't true. Between the more lackluster recent additions to the handheld systems (for the most part anyways, and I'm not talking about any ports), making Legend of Zelda require motion controls just isn't smart. Hell, god forbid someone might not have full use of their appendages and is a major fan of the zelda games, then they'd never be able to play again.
that is true and concerning. But then again you do not have to swing that wide at all (never lifted my upper arm actually)

Then of course, there is all the issues we've seen before. Imprecise tracking, interference from other sources (remember that was a major issue when the game was revealed, though I guess that was fixed, unsure), and it just doesn't translate all that well with some mechanics.
never had any problems with it

It´s the reason I´m not playing Skyward Sword any more. I loved the first few hours, but I died FOUR TIMES because the stupid game wouldn´t register a stabbing move as, well, a stabbing move during my first spider encounter in the first temple. God I hate motion controls.

I agree with you. The worst part about motion controls is that I have yet to see any version of it in any game in which it's used in a way that the plain old control sticks couldn't do the same just as well or even better than the motion controls. That, and that motion controls are still pretty bad at being very accurate, especially when close up.

As long as the tracking technology improves which the Move and Kinect proved then I'm okay with more motion controls, I like them when used right they add a lot of control options to a game.

God dam it.
That said, the motion controls in Zelda made the game a whole lot more immersive. I can't remember the last time i got that immersive in a Zelda game.
Hmmm, maybe it isn't that bad.

until video games are able to do holograms/3D around me, i see absolutely NO POINT in using motion controls, using my bodily movements to have a seizure while standing up onto a 2D screen is just stupid imo.

This pleases me. I love motion controls, they just make everything seem more fluid.
Agreed. I'm looking forward to getting Skyward Sword myself this Christmas.

The thing I don't really understand is how they say "We can't go back to buttons" and then release a tablet control with buttons.

Surely the next Zelda game on WiiU will have control on the tablet controller with the two joy sticks, and have some inventory or map stuff on the touch screen. We aren't going to have to keep swapping to the Wiimote are we?

Oh my god we could strap the tablet to our arms as a shield! I'm a genius.

I wonder if this announcement is just Nintendo doing damage control, trying to sell as many copies of Zelda as they can. If they admit now that motion controls are a mistake then many people will take it as a sign that Skyward Sword is not worth playing. They could lose a lot of sales.

Nintendo, I LIKE most of the motion control implementations in Skyward Sword, but swinging Link's sword for a couple hours makes my wrist hurt. I had the same issue with TP and Mario Galaxy. Just put in a gamepad option as well.
It will be funny to watch gamers getting the same sports injuries that active folks have.

I've trained in bo staff and sai's and I still find the wii hurt the shit out of my wrist.

I actually have my doubts of that. A flagship series WILL going to show off the latest core controls. I don't know how having to switch between the tablet and remote will fair. That's right up there with switching from controller to standing up with kinect.
Switching? Depends on how practical it is to hold the tablet one-handed.

If it's plausible to do so, I can totally see the next Zelda game being tablet in one hand (probably as shield), and Wii-mote in the other.

(The tablet is also motion-sensitive, so it wouldn't be a huge issue to the control scheme as it stands.)

If not... They're going to have to choose one or the other. Switching back and forth if you need both hands for the tablet is indeed going to be a headache.

I would guess they'll go with the tablet if forced to choose. Though that would mean abandoning the sword fighting mechanics again...

That's disappointed considering I still felt Skyward Sword controls were poor. As is such an announcement has the potential to prevent me from buying into the series going forward.

Of course if motion control technology improves than I'm all for it. I just don't like to have to do the same motion 2-3 times in order to get the game to register what I want.

Eh, why all the hate? It seems fine to me. I mean yeah motion controls still need some improvement but they have never interfered with my enjoyment of the game, nor have the movements ever kept me from being lazy while I play it. I would go so far as to say that in sword fighting games like this, as well as shooters, it is actually an improvement over buttons.

For everyone here!!!!! if you want Zelda just buy the game! don't let you be put off by some random people on a forum, complaining about their inability to put up with a little frustration.
If that would be a reason for someone who wants to play the game not to buy it, you should not spend your hard earned money on it anyway.

Trust me it is worth it, even with some wierd stabbing technique you have to apply, which can be a tad (not more) annoying.

Motion controls dumb down the game to compensate for all of the technical issues they bring in. I remember watching my brother play Twilight Princess and thinking "wow that looks so easy", then I watch him play Skyward Sword as he struggles to do the slash just right against a deku plant.

Don't get me started on how stupid Link looks running around with his sword out because his arm is always fully extended.

Why can't you add multiple control schemes?
Seriously is it really that hard?

Because there is simply no way to make the controls of Skyward Sword work the same with buttons.

@Topic

I read this today on a Nintendo news site and I was really happy about this.
After playing Skyward Sword, I simply can't imagine playing a sword fighting game with buttons.

I currently play Skyrim and every now and then I think how much I would like the game to have the awesome controls of Skyward Sword. Why doesn't no one make a mod for Skyrim to allow the motion controls to work?
I know, to much work... :(
