Originally when the Nintendo DS was first made it was supposed to be a third pillar. "Nintendo stated that it would not be the successor to either the Nintendo GameCube or the Game Boy Advance, but rather it would be considered a "third pillar" alongside the other two consoles." The Nintendo DS failed at this goal so badly it should have been given a trophy, and to top it off they gave it backwards compatibility well still claiming that it wasn?t a replacement. It?s like me giving you a steel dagger for you to have with your iron dagger, but still offering to clean and sharpen your iron one too. This third pillar thing got me thinking. They pretty much killed the GameCube with the Wii, even with backwards compatibility it still isn?t made for GameCube games. Here?s the idea, for a new try at the ?third pillar? idea, a Nintendo console based on high definition graphics and powerful processors. They can continue with handhelds and motion control without having to worry about falling behind.
The brilliant idea about this is their consoles would be the cheapest. Imagine having to pay fifty dollars for a wire for your new machine. Once you have it mass produced and everyone?s buying it, the value for the wire goes down to twenty-five dollars. Now you have to overcharge all of your machines by twenty-five dollars. What if it wasn?t just that wire? This would mean a new PS3 would be worth less than one created six months ago. The longer you wait the cheaper the components are, the lower you can sell it for, and then you have a larger market. Do you think that Nintendo would benefit from creating a conventional series of consoles, if so what would they be like, and would you buy one of them?
Edit: I've been posting for the last week, and no one's welcomed me to the escapist. -_-
