It wasn't really about the actual argument, I have reasons for using macs and iPhones... and at least one reason to own a windows computer. It was more of people hating on apple just for the sake of hating apple. But to address your non-argument hopefully without starting a flame war, here are some reasons I don't have a GS2. Saying the android market, or even platform, is fragmented is an understatement. While iOS is split between about 10 devises in 2 categories, android is split between hundreds of devices in 5 categories, all serving a different purpose, with different input methods, and most of all, different technical specifications, all the way from what barely constitutes a scientific calculator to the few phones that are more powerful then the iPhone. Apple's means of bug testing apps far surpass google's, as do their quality standards. And to top all that off, the Android market is a great deal smaller then the app store, and probably still is even when you count third party app stores like amazon's. Then comes the phones. There is no phone on the android side that has anything close to the retina display. In fact, the phones that beat the iPhone in technical specifications have larger screens then the iPhone, and yet still lower resolutions. And then comes the software updates. Some android manufacturers stop updating their phones to the newest version of android after as little as 6 months. I would also disagree with your picture, a more apt comparison is chrome OS to google. I learned windows because of directX11, and if there was a better platform for what I use my computer for, I would switch in a second.
I had no intention of starting a flame war. They're typically a waste of time that really just allows some people to think they have won an argument that really should have happened to begin with. Probably why I stuck to a non-argument.
Anywho... As I said, I used to hate on Apple, but I stopped this past summer because I got sick of it. Though when I did, it would probably not be a lie to say that I did it slightly out of fear (jealousy?) that someone had something that was better than what I had. However as time went on, it became rather quickly obvious that most of the arguments I heard for Apple being better than Microsoft became just as convoluted and fallacious as the arguments I always heard/gave for the opposite.
As for what you brought up, I wasn't trying to dispute that Apple did well with their devices: they have been in the market for awhile, and sort of are the standard to beat. I still keep my iTouch around for those very reasons that you brought up about the marketplace, there are some great apps on there that I'd like that are not on Android. Sadly, Apple lost me when they wiped my account's rights to all of my apps. It pissed me off, pushed me away, though on the bright side it did give me more time to read my Kindle. As for devices, that could really just be a result of how Google went opensource with Android and how Apple stayed in house for developing devices for their iOS.
You want a serious argument for being against Apple? Honestly, the best one would be the business practices; I won't dare decry an Apple product right now, they are rather well made - if just marketed a bit sensationally. The recent issues between copyrights of hardware and trademarks of names are just disgusting. It's just bad for the industry. Apple isn't the only one at fault, but they are certainly making it hard to think they aren't the villain.
There are plenty of people that are "anti-Apple," but honestly, you can't deny that there are plenty of people who were absolutely
enamored with Apple and Steve Jobs. Those people I really just don't get. Or maybe I do.. *sigh* I don't know...
