Well, with the Wii and Facebook etc, games aren't exclusive to gamers anymore, so the market for those games has grown a lot.

They're also likely cheaper to make, so they don't have to sell as much as hardcore titles to be profitable.

Yeah, I suppose that's true. Having grown up with games since the Commodore 64 days, and seeing the industry evolve, I guess it's hard for me to see products like the ones I stated earlier as anything worthwhile, given the potential video games have today for telling stories or offering amazing experiences in their gameplay. I probably shouldn't be so obtuse about it, now that you mention it like that. /introspective rant

2) The term "all but." Every time I see it, I read something to the use of "everything but," implying that they are saying something is everything with the one sole exception of what they mention, but it always seems to be used as a phrase that adds emphasis to it being that one thing.

I can explain that (it's a bit like 'I could care less'). It's implying that we've pretty much wiped it out, but it's pretty impossible to say that it's been completely eradicated.

I played all those fucking games and enjoyed the first three, but four was just SHIT. After Act 2 you literally have about another half hour of sneaking, rest is just cutscenes, and boss fights. Act 3 is just sneaking, cutscene, on rails shooting, boss fight, cutscene
Maybe if the cutscenes were at least GOOD and didn't ramble on for ages about things we already know( MGS3 had this a bit but a lot of the cutscenes were great not just endless plot holes like MGS4) then it could have been a good game. It's not a bad game but I can't understand how it has received such high acclaim over the years and is regarded as one of the best Ps3 games.

I'm not trying to be facetious, (in truth I do 'get' them), I used to be like it myself, but once you start to formulate your own theories on life, if you can't explain other people's behaviors/preferences, then your theory on life is incomplete and possibly faulty.

Another way of looking at it is to compare the medium 'games' with the medium 'moving pictures'. There are a lot of different kinds for different purposes. You have movies, TV shows, commercials, documentaries, music videos, the information video shown in airplanes, etc. Traditional games would be like movies, a pasttime you consciously set time aside for and have high expectations of. Shovelware would be more akin to zapping on tv, impulse 'purchases' that you're just using to kill some time, you're content with it not offering much more.

So yes, as a medium, games have incredible potential. But every medium is multipurpose too.

Personally I haven't found something that can't be explained in peoples behavior in a long time. I still hate hypocrisy and the huge amount of value people think a human life has but there's never really a case where I don't know why something is the way it is.

Although if you are asking for what I hate the most that would have to be the downfall of individuality. 2 things bugged me about this:

1 I've visited a few other countries UK,China,USA,Japan, and a few other in the EU and well they are all the same... I mean the big cities have malls and all the things you would expect to find and the rural or smaller cities don't, all the thrill of visiting another country is just not there anymore unless you speak the language and can at least have some interesting conversations in a foreign language.

2 I am getting my Computer Sciences bachelor degree and am thus also learning lots of useless theoretic math and computer theory along with actual programming. The thing is I see just how far "science" has gotten and how difficult it would be to actually come up with something new on your own. Even the people that still get awards and stuff don't actually work alone and are just the head of the department responsible.

Because of this I have trouble finding good reasons why life is actually worth trying getting worked up about. I know most people live their lives just trying to be happy but to me happiness is just like any other drug, it' just naturally there and thus everybody accepts it unlike unnatural stuff like chemicals foreign to the body or mental addictions. Hey, this was fun even if there are few chances that many people are gonna read this long of a post .
