Someone needs to show that biker some Rule 34.
That comment is fucking win.

But I really can't see the big deal. So this means there are choices like inFamous, but Mickey won't turn grey and red, essentially? That's all I got from the article.

*watches as the entirety of my interest in this game flies out the window*

You have no idea how disappointed I am.
Exactly my opinion. Maybe Gritty would have been bad, but a darker Mickey would have been awesome!

If even a biker was against engrimdarkening Mickey Mouse, then it probably is, in fact, not too good of an idea.

[HEADING=2]Hey fellow nerds! I understand how appealing it always seems to make gritty reboots of stuff, but please... don't. It always turns out to be a bad idea.[/HEADING]

Cue me being buried in a wave of "YOU SUCK" and "LOL KIDDIE" in 3, 2, 1.
I don't think any of us wanted a GRITTY Mickey, that would just be silly. We just wanted an interesting/awesome Mickey. Take Kingdom Hearts Mickey, for example. The dude's fucking Yoda in those games.
That mickey is a badass mother fucker...
But anywho I wasn't gona get this anyway so meh...

Wow, I like how they followed the advice of some random biker who admitted that he'd never play a Mickey Mouse game as opposed to doing what legions of interested gamers would have wanted.

After all, I thought this game's target audience was the whole generation that grew up thinking Mickey was family-friendly-lame, not baby-boomer bikers with a soft-spot in their hearts for the little mouse that entertained them when they used to beat up other kids for lunch money.

Who the hell do they pick for focus groups?
They ALWAYS seem to screw things up when epic things are supposed to be in order.

Wow, what negativity in here. I bet that if you hadn't known about Spector's original idea and were shown the final product only you'd have thought it was awesome. It seems that he dialed the evil as far back as he could so that even if while in development it got dialed back down it would still be different.

Not everything needs a gritty reboot, you know.

Egh, too bad. The steampunk Mean Mickey was something I actually was a bit curious about.

"We did a focus test that was really eye-opening for me. There was a biker dude saying, 'Oh, I'd never play a Mickey Mouse game,' and then we showed him images of a changed Mickey. I was sitting there thinking, 'You're gonna love what we do,' but he said, 'No! Don't mess with my childhood'."
What.
Seriously. That was what I was looking forward to as well.

I was under the impression that we weren't getting an arsehole Mickey, I thought we were getting the fun-loving, destructively mischievous Mickey from when he was still in black and white...

If they did THAT people would still be inclined to like it, making him a 'snarling rat' wasn't the best choice...

Remember kids, if they take out something completely visual, with absolutely no effect on the gameplay, because a biker thinks it's too dark, they are assholes.

Seriously, a lot of people need to look at this page: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuinedFOREVER

Congratulations Disney on giving up on one of the first and few original concepts you've ever had in VG-design at the slightest bit of resistance.

Guess I'll have to stick with Pixar for any level of emotional maturity from you guys.

Not really a surprise. Small history lesson: Originally Mickey Mouse would do all sorts of mischief, but when he became very popular, Walt Disney would get swamped with letters from parents that Mickey was a bad role model. So mickey wasn't allowed do 'bad' anymore. Eventually they had to come up with Donald, who could fill the role of being mischievous.
well that's what they meant when they said Mickey's friends were all of his traits

So they took everything that was different about the game and replaced it with a normal mickey in a happy world? That doesnt really raise my interest in this game at all....
Don't worry the world is still twisted as all fuck, Spector said himself that Disney should scare kids.
