God damn that picture is amazing.

Really? Cause to me it just looks... ugh. The point being, different art styles are hit or miss, and really, the gameplay has the largest impact. A lack of evil Mickey hardly changes anything.

If the focus groups consisted solely of young kids I will personally hunt him down and murder him for following the design-by-focus-group principle.
Yes, because obivously we read the part of a hardcore biker's reaction.

And they're still doing that, he just no longer turns into a giant snarling rat, which i don't think he ever did.
From the gameplay I've seen and from this article, the developers seem to be going back on the uniqueness of "Mean Mickey."

It's possible that the game will still be impressive, but everything I've seen so far seems to be watching the original, wonderful concept get taken away.
I think the original concept was Mickey facing the morality of the chaos he created in Walt's failed idea vault.

You have no idea how disappointed I am.
So the only thing you wanted was the small possiblity of a small snarling rat? there are more problems there than it seems.

And also not letting stupid ideas hit the gate.

OT:
I'm all for letting as much go out as possible, and hoping that alot flys. But a snarling rat-mouse playing Mickey would have alienated everybody but the 15 very loud voices you guys own.
This is after all a Disney game. Sure they cut it for a larger audience, but they do that for every other game every other movie, everything else as well.

I actually agree with the focus groups in this instance. Mickey doesn't even lose his temper with his friends when they are doing something stupid. In fact the harshest I have seen him was chewing Pluto out for something and even that was sugar-coated. Being mean is Donald's job, really. The duck doesn't get the respect he deserves, and they want to share his unique trademark with Mickey? That would be the last straw.

If even a biker was against engrimdarkening Mickey Mouse, then it probably is, in fact, not too good of an idea.

[HEADING=2]Hey fellow nerds! I understand how appealing it always seems to make gritty reboots of stuff, but please... don't. It always turns out to be a bad idea.[/HEADING]

Cue me being buried in a wave of "YOU SUCK" and "LOL KIDDIE" in 3, 2, 1.
I don't think any of us wanted a GRITTY Mickey, that would just be silly. We just wanted an interesting/awesome Mickey. Take Kingdom Hearts Mickey, for example. The dude's fucking Yoda in those games.
Now that kind of Mickey, I can see. Might be time for me to get off my butt and get Kingdom Hearts.

NO! You DON'T take an interesting idea and then EXPAND upon it! That's just horrible!
Ugh.
Oh well, I'm sure the abrubt removal of a gameplay mechanic won't make it seem too rushed.

It was a unique idea, sure, but I'm not against them scrapping it. Mickey is Mickey. He's been this way for the better part of a century and he shouldn't change now.

Haha, great picture. I love Taz.
That's actually a real show.

It was about the loony tunes fighting crime and shit.

And road runner talked :|
Stop hatin' that show was good.
Based on your comment I watched the first episode on you tube. That show was bad, it only narrowly gets beaten by Battlefield Earth as the worst thing I've ever watched.

OT: I thought focus groups were horribly unfashionable these days?
Clearly you do not watch enough TV.
Don't even own one so I suppose you'r right there.

So they took everything that was different about the game and replaced it with a normal mickey in a happy world? That doesnt really raise my interest in this game at all....

That long? Wow! That's even longer than the amount of time Japan has been supplying the worlds weird shit.

And yet, they kept the "Epic" part of the title. That's way worse than an angry Mickey if you ask me.

look do NOT pass this off a "dumb focus groups fucking things up"

Focus groups and user feedback are INCREDIBLY VITAL in making great games. Valve are famous for spending YEARS in play-testing all their games and updates and user group testing and it pays off.

But look when they cut corners: don't have proper play-testing or open betas, like for Modern Warfare 2. The result is just broken-ass gameplay like the terrible kill-streak camp-fest situation.

I have confidence in Warren Spector, Mario is kick ass without having to resort to acting evil or turn into something like a "snarling rat". For fuck sake, respect the artists' vision and their judgement and that INCLUDES allowing them to follow the opinion of people they trust.

If I can give any advice to any authors, musicians, movie directors, video game designers, or anyone else in the entertainment field. You will not please everyone so don't please anyone but yourself. Don't please anyone in focus groups. Don't please anyone on this or any forums. If you're working on something that has it's legion of fans, ignore them! If you want 50,000 explosions in your movie about giant robots, have them! If you want to tell the story about your iconic villan's childhood, do it! If you want to change a superhero's costume for some reason, go ahead! Or don't! Just have it be your decision and not anyone else's. Because the real problem isn't whether or not someone decide to change something iconic, it's when they let other people decide that for them.

Am I the only one who entirely does not give a FUCK about Mickey Mouse? I DO NOT care about the character. Yes Mickey was the shit from 1920-1940, but that was a long, long time ago. He's lame, he's boring, his voice is annoying and his only seeming ability is to wear stupid looking pants.

Just watched the gameplay videos over at Game Trailers. Looks like a regular shitty Disney game. Would have been awesome if they stuck to the original concept art.

Best part of the game play is how Mickey is always spooging all over everything with blue and green. It's a very ridiculous effect. Like a fire hose.

Any interest I had in this game (which was little to begin with) has now completely died. Period. This game won't touch my Wii.
