Worst Reboot Ever

The Robocop reboot reminds us that we should all watch the original Robocop. Time to discuss what other reboots were a step in the wrong direction.

Having seen both movies and also thought they weren't super bad but I go with Planet of the Apes since that ending was too random (and I liked Man of Steel more).

I'm going to second Amazing Spider-Man. Man of Steel at least tried to portray the core of the character: a man with godlike abilities serving as an inspirational symbol for the entire human race. They failed in representing it, but at least they understood.

Amazing Spider-Man does not get Spider-Man. He was an outcast, mocked by society, but otherwise a completely normal guy. He gets bitten by the spider, gets his powers and acts selfishly with them until his actions lead to the death of his uncle, making him realize that old catchphrase "with great power comes great responsibility". He was a normal person given the chance to do good. In ASM, they made him a variation of "the chosen one", showing the people who made this movie do not get the point of Spider-Man.

honestly I don't think either movie was that bad ( I really liked Man of Steel) but planet of the apes definitely not a great movie. But seriously you guys didn't think the The Day the Earth Stood Still remake wasn't the worst remake out of them all?

Ah, the usual tired and half-assed complaints about Man of Steel. I'll start caring when the major arguments start to not suck. Agreed that Tim Burton's Apes movie sucked though. But I can't think of many times that he's done well with existing properties.

Planet of the Apes was a more interesting movie and Superman, a whiff on a slow ball BUT: Superman can be mended. Batman vs. Superman will be a continuation of that continuity. Apes had to be completely rebooted. No body any where wanted to see a sequel to the Tim Burton movie.

I'm going to go with the Timothy Dalton Bond movies. I like him. I like him as Bond. Those movies were dull, forgettable, and damn near killed a franchise that, when properly handled, has gone on to make nearly another 10 movies. The last of which, Skyfall, was a smash hit.

The only reason it's debatable about worst reboot ever is because the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot hasn't came out yet. Sure Pa Kent saying let the kids die was bad, but it's not nearly as bad as we had to make Shredder a white guy because we couldn't find any Asian actor anywhere in the world to play a villain.

Granted he won, but Kyle blew is wad on the "bl;ows dogs for quarters." he should have saved that line for the drinking round.

Chris v.2.0 is in beta?! Congratulations, sir! Stock up on sleep now while you can. :)

Glad to see Kyle won this one. I tend to agree with him more often than not.

I'd tend to vote for Spiderman as the worst reboot, though Conan or Carrie or Godzilla (pick a 'zilla) seem equally up for debate. If pre-emptive nominations are allowed I would also like to submit the next iteration of Batman under the, "oh my god are we really going to have to sit through the origin story again?" clause.

Does Spiderman 3 count?... no?... it should be on every "worst thing ever" list.
Along with X-Men 3.

Well, for reboots, they just come and go lately, does anybody remotely remember the Total Recall reboot?, did it affected how you though about the original movie?, it's a big NO for both answers and I think Robocop will be pretty much the same in that regard.

Not to mention the fact that the image was formed as soon as it was said, so it was too late to NOT create that image.

Speaking of reboots, it a shame this is limited to movies because I am SURE there are those looking at this thread and chomping at the bit hoping to make a comment about Sonic Boom. THAT would have made for some interesting conversation!

I'm voting for Amazing Spiderman
I was about to come into this thread and rage about Man of Steel but you stopped me dead. Fucking Amazing Spiderman. There are so many things that are wrong with that movie, and I realized one more of them today. That idiot playing Peter Parker reminds me of my MOST HATED ACTOR EVER. Hayden Christensen. Amazing Spiderman just got worse for me. And I didnt think that possible.

At least Man of Steel had a pretty decent opening. Before Superman appeared. Ah shit...two of my favorite superheroes...how could it be so messed up................

KYLE YOU ALMOST GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK!!

I saw the "vs." screen and thought "Are they going to argue Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a bad movie!? Inconceivable!" Thankfully, I breathed a huge sigh of relief when it turned out to be the reboot I forgot even happened.

Now to watch the rest of this episode.
