Burton's Planet of the Apes could have been good, all it needed was Johnny Depp in a stupid hat.
With Regards to Tim Burton and franchises... I think he did alright with the two Batman movies he helmed.
I mean Hollywood has had something of a patchy record with Batman movies, Schumacher's two embraced the camp angle, which is good for anyone interested in that aspect, not so good for those not, and Nolan's Batman movies kinda started losing steam and limping the longer they went on.
And hell, all of them have had occasional script issues to a greater or lesser extent, the odd plot hole or head-scratching moment.

For a second there, I was expecting Bob to butt in and take over on the anti-Man-of-Steel hate. Good thing Burton's Planet of the Apes won (if you call that winning). For my money, one lousy reboot was Aliens vs. Predator. That one messed up 2 franchises for the price of one!
I hated both reboots, but definitely hated Planet of the Apees mroe. It's so bad I actually did only see it once and forgot it existed to the point that I thought this was about Rise with Franco, which confused me because that one was actually pretty good.

I couldn't agree more. Honestly thought the rewrite of a lot of the original movie's most iconic moments crosses the line into parody well before they "catch" Khan. Hell, the movie's opening has Spock paradoxically speaking out about not violating the Prime Directive while violating the pri-canadamus_prime said:

OT: I was never on board with reboots to begin with... and, so far, only Rise has been the only "reboot" that was worth watching in the theaters, based on my theater-viewing years...

Of the two, Planet of the Apes suffered from heavy handed nonsense, like when the evil general ape borrowed a Barry Goldwater quote out of context, Yet, it had this weird aesthetic that made it fun to watch as long as you didn't make yourself listen to it.
Man of Steel's problems begin and end with WB trying to recreate the same money printing machine which was The Dark Knight by tacking on the same gloomy sensibilities onto Superman.
However, Robocop sucks Roboballs. The whole movie hinges on, and falls apart, by not having Murphy die and be resurrected as a machine. Then he spends a big chunk of the movie with him not being Robocop and not doing Robocop stuff. I didn't think the movie could meet what I wanted from a reboot, but it was just sooooo boooooriiiing!!

If you're going to go the route of cartoon reboots, even though it wasn't technically a reboot Season 3 of Gargoyles sure as hell felt like one. A bad one. One so bad I've edited it out of my memory except that it is a thing that exists somewhere in the netherworld of TV-land. Or how when Doug's production company was bought by Disney and put on ABC it wasn't even close to what made that cartoon fun. Chris actually brought up a good point that I never thought of before about Superman. Although I don't like either movie they talked about in the video, part of what failed with Superman is that they couldn't come up with a competent sequel without putting Batman in it.

Between the two, I'd have to go with POTA. I'm not FOND of MOS, but it was still...Ugh....Better.
However, The Star Trek reboots have probably given the franchise the shot in the arm it needs to return to regular rotation, so I'd say it's pretty much the opposite of the criteria they set out.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go was the taste of defending MOS out of my mouth.

I think I'm one of the few hardcore fans of the original Planet of the Apes series who doesn't really mind the 2001 "re-imagining". It was bad yeah (Even Marky Mark thought so. [http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Mark-Wahlberg-Discusses-Why-His-Planet-Apes-Movie-Didn-t-Work-28577.html]) but I didn't find it personally offensive. At least they tried something different rather than attempting to outdo the original at its own game, because that was never going to happen. And hey, the make up looks great.
I absolutely agree that they should stop giving reboots to Burton. It feels like he ran out of ideas 15 years ago and is increasingly just taking the piss.
Not sure what the worst remake/reboot etc. is. But I know Rob Zombie's Halloween couldn't possibly have missed the point and appeal of Micheal Myers any harder. So I guess I'll go with that until someone inevitably remakes A Clockwork Orange in the mold of Twilight or something..

For a moment there, based on the preview pic for the vid, I was under the impression you guys were going to be talking about Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

So much low hanging fruit and Chris goes for Man of Steel... I don't even know where to begin on that one. For starters he used all the tired and pointless arguments that it wasn't really Superman and it should have been done a certain way but what Chris fails to realize is that this is a reboot to a franchise and one that exists for a reason. Man of Steel is re-examining the character with a different take and showing that Superman isn't perfect. This adds depth to the characters and gives him motivation moving forward beyond simply being the boy scout everyone already knows.
Complaining about the Superman vs. Batman movie was just grasping at straws. For starters we've seen nothing on the movie and it hasn't even started filming yet. All we have to go on are rumors and several confirmed castings. Just because Wonder Woman has been cast doesn't mean she'll play a massive role in the movie. Remember when Black Widow popped up in Ironman 2? She had her brief time to shine when she took out the guards alongside Happy and that was pretty much it for her outside of a few scenes where she was Tony's assistant.
Wait until the movie actually comes out before ripping it apart. Oh and on the subject of additional casting the big rumor now (since this is apparently being taken as fact now) is that the Justice League movie will be filming back to back with Superman vs. Batman so chances are (if this is true) most of this casting is being done for that where they will be a huge part of the story.
Superman Returns is a far worse movie that makes zero sense. It was created because someone wanted to make another classic Superman movie and everything about it kept that tone, look, and feel which ultimately worked against the movie. Superman spends half the movie creepily stalking Lois Lane, Luthor's big plan is to create the ugliest land mass possible which looked to have zero value (seriously the whole thing was made of rock, nothing could grow there, and he had no army to keep anyone from coming in and taking it from him), the only action scene was well done but you knew nothing serious was going to happen because Lois was on the plane, the final fight is basically Luthor's men putting the boots (medium style) to Superman before he's shanked like a prisoner and tossed in the ocean only to have him come back and lift an entire continent into space and hurl it into the sun, and oh at some point Superman and Lois had banged in the past so Superman has a son and that kid is a murderer (this was also obviously sequel bait). This movie by itself brought down Warner Bros. DC movie lineup and kept Superman off the screen for over eight years. This was the movie that made everyone say DC can only do Batman movies and that's it.
Then when Superman finally returned to the screen they completely did away with Superman in the title instead opting to use a nickname and they had to make sure that this take on Superman was so different from Returns that no one would ever think they were related. So in many ways if you think about it those of you who hate what has been done with Man of Steel probably have Superman Returns to blame. If that movie hadn't been as awful as it was there wouldn't have been a need to reboot the franchise and go in a whole other direction. You had your chance to get the Superman movies you wanted and DC royally screwed that up.
