I think this is a good time for all of you hating EA's bastardization of C&C as a F2P skirmish only multiplayer game to fund the hell out of Planetary Annihilation @ http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/659943965/planetary-annihilation-a-next-generation-rts

And then send a follow up email to EA stating that a F2P skirmish only multiplayer game is a reason you would rather fund PA, instead if playing their game.

I know I'm hugely in the minority, but General and Zero Hour are some of my favorite RTS games ever.

This is a travesty for any game, but it hits me especially hard as this WAS one of my most anticipated games.

This is just another kick to the balls. I did some online skirmishes in Generals and it is unbalanced. Maybe if they could handle doing that it would be somewhat better.

This is C&C, not Total Annihilation or even SC2.

This is what made C&C good.


The story, the struggle the cause. The gameplay and cutscenes worked together so well up to about the last of the games.

Pretty much, but I would hold Generals & C&C 3 as better than RA3 and C&C 4 - by a *very* thin margin. But Generals remains the point generally regarded by most as where it all went wrong.

OT: I've been playing C&C Games as long as I can remember (for the record - my first *EVER* game *EVER* was Command & Conquer: Red Alert), and not once touched the Multiplayer, excluding a few match ups with friends. This measure turns it into LoL at best (a moderately decent game with a crap community) or End of Nations at worst (which I can't talk about due to NDA).

In a nutshell, I think I'll end up sticking it to both and supporting Iron Grip: Marauders some more.

Well, this seals the deal doesn't it.

C&C4. A gut shot, slow and painful but at the very least there was a tiny chance.
C&C:G2. Finally, thanks for the double tap, can finally put the greatest RTS series to rest.

I have owned every single C&C title released to date, even including unofficial bits like the Code Red map pack for RA1. I have enjoyed them all (Yes, even Renegade, please don't hurt me) right up until C&C4 came out.

Now I know I no longer need hold out hope for this series. Instead I can now focus on wasting away my days hoping Chris Taylor/GPG return to form and make SupCom 3. (2 wasn't *that* bad, but it was no true TA/SC game)

It's this, and/or the fact that they just don't care and literally only want to wring out more money out of a franchise that they stole from people more talented than them. It's up there with having a dipshit District Manager at your GameStop telling a customer that Ratchet & Clank is like Sly Cooper.

Well that just shows how EA has no idea what made C&C great, it wasn't silly competative MP, it was the campaign (and one thing RA3 did well was adding coop campaign). Congratulations EA, you've made a C&C that I will never touch.

Here's my interpretation.
"Get back to the roots of [what we think the market is into right now.]"

That cutscene is everything that was right about early C&C storytelling, It gave you a freeman perspective of few defined characteristics but connected you to events. The blend of conventional, media and environmental warfare (with a pinch of religion) was to me extremely powerful.

I think they just want to transfuse the franchise with today's sturm and drang seriousness of gritty war simulation and competitive RTS. I just can't summon up an ounce of enthusiasm for what they're describing.
