In the military you go through a week long defensive exercise during basic training that is kind of like a final test.
Five days, no sleep, in foxholes.... You don't suffer from sleep deprivation because you are a robot.
i'm sorry, when did this happen? I call shenanigans

Anyway OP, It's not impossible and you won't die. You literally cannot stay awake until you die; people that die of sleep deprivation are insane - your brain will not let you stay awake until you die. So, hoping you're mentally stable, you'll be fine.

However, unless you've been an insomniac or done this thing before you are going to fail. Nothing can prepare you for how tired and ill you are going to feel. Your skin will turn grey, your eyes will constantly hurt and your stomach will be cramping constantly.

Drink and eat a lot. Never rest your eyes to stop them hurting and make the most of the moments of adrenaline - they appear quite randomly but last for less and less time - use it to cook/shower/whatever.

good luck

It is extremely dangerous, and I really don't recommend it. Your body absolutely needs sleep, and this will only hurt yourself. For the love of God, don't try it. Here, check this out if you don't believe me: http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/guide/important-sleep-habits

It's possible but it's not recommended. We don't know what the long term effects of sleep deprivation are, but the short-term effects are bad enough. The maximum that anyone has ever stayed awake for has been 11 days, so 7 days is possible, but it's not recommended that you go for more than 2 to 3 days without sleep.

After 11 days without sleep, you WILL die. Normally, dying isn't an issue - your brain will automatically go into sleep whether you want to or not. But some people have a medical condition (Familial insomnia), in which they literally cannot go to sleep. Doctors still aren't sure what causes it (it's thought to be genetic), but those with Familial insomnia one day just can't go to sleep. They're life is perfectly normal for the first 20 or so years, then one day - their brain will refuse to sleep. They eventually die, and there is no known cure.

Well, I heard you can survive jumping out a 10th floor window or shooting yourself in the head... so you must absolutely definitely fucking try this shit. Now. Do it. Fuck the consequences. You only live once. Make it all end. Or get some mental disorders. Fuck yeah.

Just don't do it.

Why would you want to anyway? It's only unpleasant.

well your about to lose a bet and well sleep deprevation can kill and you would probably pass out before you got to day three unless you took coffee or a very strong pep pill(the kind that truckers use)and well you would probably suffer brain damage so.

in short is it worth it probably not but if the prize of this bet is a island in the tropics with 17 beautiful lady servants to keep the housE clean along with a juicy 1billion dollar bounus if you go an extra day i would say TAKE IT YOU FOOL

A simple enough question, is staying awake for 1 week straight dangerous? I made a bet with a couple of my friends about it.

No I won't be driving or doing anything that I shouldn't be, also I'm not doing drugs.
And so have you paid your friends?

You lost. Bigtime.

After a full seven days of not sleeping, the subconscious mind will slowly mix with your main consciousness. This will make your dreams become a reality and have a very high chance of causing permanent brain damage as well as mental and physical damage. Also, with the lack of sleep your mind will slowly deteriorate and as such you have a chance of dying.
Citation needed.

The world record's 11 days I believe, I think it's like putting your face in a basin of water, in that try as hard as you may you'll not manage to drown yourself willingly.

This is where I read some of what I did about sleep deprivation. I do not remember where I found other information.
No mention of permanent brain damage nor death (beyond the obvious "I thought the car was a puppy" kind of death"

Which is the important point. I'm getting a "Yeah. I am on a drug. it's called Sleep Dep. It?s not available because if you try it once, you will die. Your face will melt off and your children will weep over your exploded body."
Death is not always going to happen. There are permanent impairments though. It seems common sense to me. Without sleep, your body cannot heal itself like it does in sleep. Your brain will slowly deteriorate because it will always be active. I'll continue looking for where I found the info on the damage though. I found it somewhere before, maybe a book in the library.
But it's not a "Do not do this you will die!" thing. People do live through it. If you are willing, then it's your choice if you go for it or not.

It's not that bad, but some people have more of an aptitude for it. Also, don't do a lot of extreme endurance exercise or you may end up with a heart irregularity in the long term. And the hallucinations are actually kinda fun :D

If the bet is over like 10 bucks...then you sir are a complete and utter idiot.

a whole week without sleep is incredibly dangerous. I pulled 40ish hours max and I was completely exhausted by the end, felt like shit for the rest of the week.

But hey, if you want to win a measly bet at the expense of your fucking life, go for it.
My friends bet me $1000 dollars each, I would take these chances for 10 grand.

You would be incredibly, dangerously exhausted. I don't think you can even make it that long without sleep before your body literally refuses to stop working. I'm not sure how you would stay awake that long, but it would definitely require fucking up your body some way. So yes, it would be dangerous.
I have powerful willpower.
Just one question Griffstar, Why would you ask this question, only to then ignore people when they tell you it's dangeruos?

You might pull it off, but I think it'll stop being funny long before you have finished.

But hey, on the upside, you might get a Darwin Award.
Because of mixed opinions and my own research, also Day 3 today.

DON'T DO IT!
It can kill you and if it doesn't then you'll be like a zombie for most of it and apparently people who have done this before have just sort of changed somehow, like they weren't the same person anymore, then again I only know that from hearing about it, if only there was a place of information in which to find out about it's effects...

I hear 10 days causes death, 5 or more causes insanity. That is without microsleep though, which I expect will be happening.

I really can't find anything remotely scientific concerning permanent brain damage or death caused by a single bout of sleeplessness. I can find things on increased arterial failure from hardeningand heart disease caused by a lack of sleep, but that's an effect over a long time of little sleep.

i'm preeeeetty sure after 72 hours of no sleep, you can be medically classified as insane. like actually insane. so, dangerous, i guess? if you don't happen to have a strait-jacket on?

According to your profile you're 14 years old

If you honestly think your friends will actually cash out on that, mental problems were clearly a pre-existing condition. This isn't safe, or smart.

Edit: Also, look for new friends.
