I think Americans are a bunch of morons. Not all of you, just enough of you that is causes concern. A lot of you just need to die off, and the rest need to spread yourselves among the world so you can learn not to be stupid.

My wife has her heart set on going to Canada at some point. She even mentioned moving there and we've never been.

All that was sparked by one picture she saw. We were looking at holiday places for when she has some time off and she found this picture....

Nice people, backwards politics, pretty country, bad education system, interesting history, awful media and state sanctioned propaganda, good weather, bad food, great personalities, too big to be judged as a whole. I used to live there, and kinda hated it, but that's because the place is born and bred xenophobic. When people got used to the fact I was English, they were very friendly, although the men resented that the girls liked me so much. Shit happens. I enjoy visiting, very thankful I don't live there.

I will NEVER pre-judge individual American people. Assuming that everyone from a place conforms to every negative stereotype about it is just crap. Similarly, I will never associate the mistakes of a government with the people that were being governed. I've met some truly stupid Americans. I've met some really cool, intelligent ones. That applies to any nationality, really.

This. The large usage of the collective "you" in this thread sort is somewhat disheartening. I know that I, personally, don't treat all people from a certain country the same nor do I conform to many of the stereotypes that people have about my own country. Yet, I'm put into some larger category with little reasoning or individual knowledge about myself individually.

People are people. That's where it ends, I think.

you have a fairly ignorant, sheep like population that will always hold you back. about half of americans dont accept evolution. the greatest threat to your national security is the republican party and your broken congressional and especially senatorial system. you imprison more people (in terms of percent of population and absolute figures) that anyone else in the world and do so for borderline insane reasons (there are people in us prisons serving life sentences because they shoplifted some dvds and were convicted under your three strikes law). i heard that more than half of your population believes that jesus christ will actually return to earth in thier lifetime and raise them all to heaven in a rapture.

I (an American Atheist who really thinks the government needs a complete overhaul) totally agree with every point you made and hope my one third canadian heritage allows me to take refuge up there when everything falls apart here (even though the canadians I meet at my family reunions are kind of all dicks, but that says more about my family than canada).

Well, I have no problem with most americans as individuals, but I can't understand why you are always in a war.
Take 9/11 for example, lot's of people killed and instead of saying ok that happened let's try to prevent it from happening again you went on two wars. You invaded Iraq for something and then afghanistan so that you can capture Osama. What i don't understand is that you went willingly in two wars that eventually killed a lot more people than the 9/11 attack and also increased your national debt. I also can't understand why do you say that soldiers served their country when they obviously actually just went on war for no actual reason. The only one that benefited from these two wars are the contractors that supposedly "rebuilt" those countries.
So my point is: If you have a problem with a nation in the future, don't invade them it will be worse for everyone just try diplomacy for once and maybe try to be reasonable with your expectations.

Economy boost, war is good for the economy. That and the middle east had a helluva lot of oil that the Americans could just walk by, secure and sell off to high paying distributers. Watch Michael Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11' for more info.

I have already seen it, and still the simple citizens didn't benefit at all, that's my point. They were dragged in this situation so that others get the benefits and now they will force them to pay the expenses (see the recent debt crisis). I don't understand how they accept that. Are they so ignorant or am I so wrong in my views?

The governments only focus on the short-term, that's true anywhere. Since elections role around annually they only focus on what can make the most benefits in the shortest amount of time. That way when the elections come up again, they just go LOOK AT HOW GREAT WE WERE and get re-elected again.

WOW......Im amazed at the short memory of peoples in other countries. How much american blood has been spilled since the 1940's for the liberation of nations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the middle east. We were asked because we were the only ones who could help or had the power to. When the world asks you to be the cops, or cries upon you to say you have the power therefore you have the responsibility to help dont ***** when we do take action because were not helping your favorite cause. Step up and take charge yourself or sit down and shut up.

While it was very noble there was a fair amount of self interest involved, if you hadn't helped out then USSR would have dominated all of mainland Europe and possibly britain as well. This would have been a very big threat to the USA. Maybe not as selfless as it first appears.

Also you say short memory but i'm sure many people on this website weren't alive to remember the second world war, i would say 70 years doesn't count as a recent event.

OT: America seem's ok i guess, it's always hard for the world super power to get the balance right between doing what is right for the internation comunity and it's own interests. As for the people I haven't met any Americans i dislike although there are a lot of crazy Americans i have seen on TV/internet

Frankly, I read about, listen, watch and talk to americans enough to know that you got something stuck up your arse and it's making you generally unpleasant to interact with. I am an American and that doesn't mean I follow everything that the Government does. It doesn't mean I accept half the shit that the current president is doing. MANY Americans are pissed right now. We are in a Recession, dubbed with "The Great" in front, and guess who spent 10 million dollars of Tax payer money? Michelle Obama with her wild spending habits and constant vacations. We Americans are currently pissed because we can barely make ends meat (is that the correct term?) and they are spending Millions within a year for some bloody vacations!

You see what your Media wants to see. You notice all the children and stupid people who wildly insult other countries (see my example above) just as we see yours. The fact is, your country, whether you notice it or not, is trying to make you think that all other countries are terrible in comparison. Our government does it, England does it, I am pretty sure Russia does it as well. You may want to doubt it, however you KNOW it is true.

I want to say that I am sorry if you perceive Americans like a bunch of bumbling idiots. We are not. Well, I would argue that Obama is an idiot, but that is for another time. We are just like you, we have our fanatics, our morons, are brilliant/insane professors as well as our normal people. There's the tiny fact that you sat on your entitled asses until the Japanese pissed you off, whereupon you blew 200,000 of their civillians into ash just to make a point at a time when they were trying to surrender. You then proceeded to take credit for what was mostly a Russian victory in Europe. After that, you demonized the Russians and Communists in general for forty years, while your actions were at least as bad.

OT: The above shows why I have a raging hatred for the American government and political system. As for the people, some of them are dicks, some of them are alright, just like everywhere else. The difference seems to be, the Americans put their morons up on pedestals to display them to the world.

Ok Lets talk about real history since you havent read the second post

1. American Service merchant men (Merchant marine) killed by german submarines and Aircraft prior to the US entering the war in DEC 1941: 12200 These were the men and women shipping War materiel to the UK and the russians Prior to the us commencing combat operations. You ko wthings like Tanks, aircraft, bullets, beans etc etc. There was no sitting on our Entitled asses as you put it. American industry kept you supplied and in the war until we came and put boots on ground. Check your history this is fact.

2. The japanese never tried to surrender prior to either of the atomic weapons being dropped and the civilians were warned multiple days in advance that they would be destroyed if they stayed. I dont know what version of history you read but its wrong. The emporer spoke of surrender but he wasnt really in charge of japan Tojo was and he had decided to fight to the death.

3. Where do you get that Europe was mostly a russian victory? The russian while moving farther than the rest of the allieson the march to belin did less up to that point other than retreating into winter and burning everything to the ground so the germans couldnt use everything. Also how did try and take credit. No-where did i say that the US Deserves sole credit for winning the war in europe. All i said is that americans (many) spilled thier blood for another country to be free? Tell me where it says America won the war?

4. Our actions were just as bad? Really we restricted people behind walls and failed to let them move about freely? we didnt let them practice thier religion? We machine gunned them down when they wanted to leave? We didnt allow protests against our govt and we allowed people to vote? Again check your history. Im not proud of our history in the civil rights department for african americans. It was wrong. did we demonize the soviets? yeah did they deserve it? You fuckin bet.

Please review some proper history books and then get back to me

Canadian here. I see Americans as ignorant to other countries.Through experience you guys have no care for anything that goes on outside your country.

I've had a school teacher ask me if Canada is a socialist country.
I've been around a family who had been convinced that we rode on dog sleds.
Last week I had an American ask me if it's winter In Winnipeg.

I've also found they don't like anything being different from what there used to. When your in France and there are Americans complaining about it not being like The states there is something wrong with you.
