My feelings about censorship, like my feelings about the concept of "community," people who say "n-word" instead of "******," and now apparently my feelings about Notch, can be summed up in three words: Fuck. That. Shit.
Wait... "the concept of 'community'"? Now I'm curious what you mean by that. Judging by your attitude, I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean what it sounded like to me.
I'm always excited when people pick up on my "attitude." It makes me feel urban :D. Anyway, what I mean by that is that there is the implication that there is some sort of overarching unity of humanity which can be offended by things like cursing, pornography, violent media, and so forth, some uber-alles 'community' which must be taken into consideration. This is wrong for two reasons. First of all, the concept of unity among mankind is predicated on the falsehood of every single bit of history there is. As a species we have had 16 years without war since the advent of the written word. That's not very communal, now is it?

Second of all, if there was such a thing, it would never be a unity of opinion or of taste, and if it were then we wouldn't need the moral majority to watch over it because we would all agree on what was desirable, now wouldn't we?

It's at best a mind-blowingly stupid concept and at worst a cynical attempt at control. I'm not sure which would make me hate people more, but I feel safe saying both are a little sickening.

I'm fairly ambivalent on the whole matter, but it doesn't seem like as much of an overreaction if certain people had been pissing around the whole time as Notch has revealed (Operative word if, I hasten to add)
I'm with you, but after the Bethesda incident, I really don't trust Notch any more. Especially with claims this outlandish.

Yay a post that means I don't have to type out my thoughts!

You are my bestest friend.

Notch we forgave you for some of your tweets about scrolls, but again?

Also to tweet about people talking behind other peoples backs.... is a tweet not talking behind someones back?

Am I the only one bewildered that people are taking anything anyone "tweets" seriously? Twitter is a joke. If you posses any degree of professionalism you will take the time to express your thoughts in a proper online journal, article or what have you. If Notch has something important to say, such as his take on this incident, he should treat it like it is something important and keep it away from tweeter. Taking what he tweets seriously is like taking something he IM'd or text messaged seriously.

Personally, I think that everyone is at fault here. Even the fans.

The Yogscast acted wrongly during the confrence (I'm waiting to hear their side of the story, however), but then Notch tweeted such things about them, which, of couse, caused Notch's fans to attack the Yogscast and the Yognaughts to attack Notch. (Because y'know, the fanbase does that.)

I'm just hoping that everyone will apologise to each other sooner or later and go back to being friends.

Second of all, is that what reallly happened?
Did the yogscast say 'Fuck you' to a child?
No.

That's like me going 'The kid got his cock out, your argument is invalid'.

Oh, I doubt that last part will happen. This IS the internet, after all. Frankly, the fans on both sides - and now Notch, having read his Twitter - haven't impressed me much. Notch is spouting all this stuff about the Yogscast on his twitter advertised on Minecraft's front page, but without providing a scrap of evidence to support it. Honestly, who couldn't see that and think he's just whining to conjure sympathy from his fanbase, when the option to contact the Yogscast directly is surely available (since they've, y'know, WORKED TOGETHER in the past) and he could've simply not brought it up.

And the fans, ugh. One rumor and suddenly the Yognauts are yelling at Notch, Notch gets defensive and starts mudslinging, the Minecraft fans attack the Yogscast (who thus far have said NOTHING about any of this apparently), the Yognauts attack the fans...it's like a verbal re-enactment of the start of World War I.

If the Yogscast just keeps quiet about the whole affair or makes maybe one glib joke about it before moving on from it forever (or, y'know, handling it discreetly), they'll officially have my support for being the bigger people and not being drawn into this quickly-degrading flame war, regardless of what 'spoiled divas' they may or may not have acted like. Seriously, tired of this internet drama BS.

I bet they giggled for a minute and have forgotten by now...
Hell they probably use it five time a day. People make such a stupid problem out of nothing. I just want to kick some people off of earth. They can go live on mars where they won't bother anyone.

Hey, I did say that I was only hoping for it, didn't I?
I find it interesting that both Notch and the Yogscast have both cooperated with each other (They even played Team Fortress 2 with each other) and then all of the sudden, Notch hates them. Either there's something really going on with him right now, or he's being an epic trololo. If it's the later, then I'm not sure whether to be PO'd for saying such things, or to be impressed with his efforts.

That's fandom for you, when the shit hit the fan, the ievitable flaming begins.

Knowing them, they'd either ignore the abuse, of maybe just mention it breifly and then carry on with what they do. I know it may sound like I'm idolising them a little, but all this hate that circling around about them just doesn't sound like them. Neither does the sound of Notch blackmailing someone like this.

Hey, OP. "Disablism" is not a word. And if it was, it'd mean the opposite of that.
Disablism

Disablism is the "discriminatory, oppressive or abusive behaviour arising from the belief that disabled people are inferior to others". This definition has been used by Scope since 2004.

If they say it's a word, I'm happy to use it as a word.

Considering he made frequent references to bagning honeydew's mum.... they're all kids.

This whole thing could have been avoided if Notch had simply asked to see the video opener beforehand. He's obviously seen their videos. He knows they swear. Invites them to Minecon.

They swear.
He acts like a child in return.

notch and simon and lewis are the quintessential man-child,
Notch, who without any major publisher backing made the hugely successful game Minecraft, making all the code from scratch... is somehow a man child. He is 32 year old, what will YOU have achieved by that age?

PS: before you go off believing the OP, check the source and realise that the OP doesn't know the difference between "general use of cuss words" and "being insulting".

Notch's issue is with them directly insulting people, not general cuss words.

https://twitter.com/#!/NOTCH

"Yogscast repeatedly insulted people, talked behind their backs, refused to cooperate, and acted like total spoiled divas nonstop."

"They called us "a bunch of nerds who don't know how to run a company", demanded that we pay them to come here (nobody else got paid)."

"I'm very sorry about the behavior of the people (clarified as yogscast) we won't work with any more. Celebrity or not, you don't f-bomb kids."

Difference between swearing within earshot of children and swearing AT them! And of course, were they called out on this and asked to apologise, did they still refuse? OP is telling a very warped version of events.
Treblaine, before you go off on another arrogant, patronising rant, check your facts. At the time of posting, all I'd seen was a tweet by Notch saying that someone had dropped the 'F-bomb'. I decided to use this as a lead to MY questions over the use of language in the gaming community. I am very aware of the difference between "directly insulting people, not general cuss words". I notice that your condescending tone isn't appreciated elsewhere, maybe you should address that? *puts emphasis on own condescending tone*

To be fair, when professionally participating at a family friendly event, it is pretty unprofessional to publicly swear.

Just because a lot of kids these days are swearing, doesn't mean you should just openly embrace it simply because it exists, they are still offensive words.

The thing is, this is likely a misunderstanding, from the interview the Yogscast did with Notch itseems that he is incapable of detecting sarcasm and his english is quite lacking.

So most likely Notch just misunderstood the Yogscasts british humour.

You know what's really annoyed me now? It's all that muck that Notch threw at the Yogscast on Twitter, and (whether or not it's true) has now put up a tweet that it'll probably all blow over. Make your fucking mind up, Notch, because you've lost a lot of respect from a lot of people by airing your dirty laundry on Twitter and acting like the exact prissy divas he's railing against. I used to think Notch was a pretty cool, laid-back guy, even up to that interview he did the other day with them (in which, I might add, he acted in pretty vulgar manner himself). But now? I see someone who has let his success go to his head, and thinks he can go around passing judgement on all and sundry who don't match up to his own double standards.
He only gave those details after yogscast fans spamming him with hate mail. Until then he was tight lipped on the whole affair.

I don't blame him either.
You try to do the right thing and not say much, people start acting like complete tools without even knowing anything about it, he then says what happened and what gripes he has over it.
what's so unreasonable about that?

As for what's really happened here with the actual event, I don't really know(we haven't heard both sides) and honestly... I don't really care.

and man up.
anyone else find this funny, both sides using the exact same 'you're just a blind fanboy, wake up and realise [Yogscast|Notch] isn't as great as you think!' argument.

XD
What's unreasonable is the whole 'dirty laundry on Twitter' thing. Totalbiscuit made some very good points on his Reddit post: Notch accused the Yogscast of demanding payment and telling Notch that Mojang was 'a bunch of nerds who don't know how to run a company'. Well, if he thought that two commentators whose full time job is their Youtube videos to stump up the thousands of pounds for accommodation, transatlantic flights and the like, whilst being away from their main source of revenue out of the goodness of their hearts, then yes, he has no idea how to run a professional convention. I'm sorry, but if you expect people to have any respect for you, then you don't start acting like some bitchy pre-teen on Twitter when you have a disagreement with someone. If what he said the Yogscast did is true, then yes, he had grounds for not working with them again (although the claims sound dubious at best), but either way, he is not improving the situation by instigating a witch-hunt on Twitter. That is what I find unreasonable.

This may seem way off the topic...

What is Yogcast?
. They are 2 British gamers who got famous for their Minecraft series, but started out doing Wow tutorials. They are genuinely pretty funny...( More so that most main-Stream comidians today) Personally I find it hard to believe that they would write "Fuck off" on somebody's autograph... but Hey.
Well they might. Characters yelling "FARK OFF" (because of the accent, see) to children is one of the recurring jokes on their podcast.

Ahh yes, I didnt think of that :p

Mummy! Mummy! Can i listen to the yogpod?
