Yeah, you're right! Why does everyone start complaining about this new area? Now you wouldn't have to download 5 different mods to run just this one. By the way, who says Notch got his idea from this mod ( you have to admit, sky islands aren't a very original idea ). I actually like that it's coming to Minecraft in an update in stead of a mod. Ever since the Nethers came with the Halloween Update people have been thinking about this, and I like it.

I do like the notion, but between this and the map patch.. it is really driving home the concept that Notch has ADD.
I like the notion of the sky world, I love the notion of the map, but seriously theres so many other things that need to be in the game first, like More blocks, more recipes, NPCs, etc.
Perhaps notch needs to adopt the valve philosophy. Release the engine, let people play with it, and then buy out those modders who do great things with it and claim it as your own. I mean Notch has the money now, Im sure he can afford it now.

Maps have top priority in my mind. I can't build a continent with several cities in it if I'm constantly afraid of losing them! D: And I need to plan out where I'm going to build the cities and all that jazz. I know I can use Cartograph, but I need something in game that I can reference :\viranimus said:

The nether is kinda useless...I mean, netherrack is cool, but it's not that special since it's everywhere, and glowstone is too annoying (break 9, to build ONE) to be useful, and fast travel is hampered by the fact that it's REDICULOUSLY dangerous. I practically never ever go into the place unless I'm picking up some netherrack (which I only use in my stuff because my texture pack makes it a nice awesome blue!).
For this new floating realm to be great...I'm hoping he adds dragon caves with treasure in it (and dragons to slay/tame), blocks that float up for a bit and then float back down slowly when redstone current is applied to them (so we can make elevators!
), some new mobs, a flying mount (to allow for easier travel in the realm), and/or some other useful/awesome stuff. If it's just a bunch of floating islands with one or two new blocks.......It's gonna be dull. He has a chance to make something that will blow our minds. I hope he does so.

Oh dear gosh no....if he does that, he's gonna need to make lightstone less of a pain in the ass to work with. At least give us 5 lightstone shards per block we break. 1 per block makes it a huuuge pain to deal with. Unless that's changed. Last time I checked, that's what it was.Tdc2182 said:
I love everyone complaining about Notch ripping off X Y and Z when the game used to have floating island maps back in Indev, which people have been clamoring to have back. First as a seed option and then as a Heaven-ish contrast to the Nether. Which was the inspiration for some of the mods. If that's ripping off something, then Notch is ripping off the people who ripped him off.

When this mod comes into the game, we will need a way to travel across the islands, and quite frankly, building bridges wouldn't be as fun. We have the boat for mainland ocean travel... why not a hang glider or plane or something for the sky world?
