Get some red dust and a gold block and make a compass?Mahorfeus said:Let's see how this turns out. Once 1.6 comes out, maybe I can finally find my way back home... -_-
In this case, "finally" means long after I had paid money to play the beta of a game based on infinitely large worlds.Jim Grim said:In this case, 'finally' means before the game is out of beta.thethingthatlurks said:Finally! I don't care if this won't be in until 1.9, I just want some bloody map in the bloody game. Really, that's the one essential feature the game lacked, and it took this long?
technically no mojang ab only has two programmers and ones making another game so yeah notch deserves his credit Hes not even the boss of mojangHerbertTheHamster said:It's his team that makes most of them. He just gets all the credit and cash.CM156 said:Not well I hear. The cartography has really gone to hell.HerbertTheHamster said:... It's not like he broke cartographer completely with that saving change update.
Wonder how maps in the nether work.
OTL Is it just me, or does he seem to be faster with these patches now.
Not really viable if you are far from the spawn, which makes readings from the compass less accurate. On multiplayer servers, you can't crowd around the spawn since everyone will want space.CardinalPiggles said:its not hard to find your house again . just leave distinguishing features behind you, like bridges in between islands, or a few torches on mountains and cliffs.
lol use a compass. and if your house or other things arent visible from your original spawn, build an above ground bridge, or mine cart track.Jonci said:Definitely would be useful if you can use them to view your current location while lost somewhere underground or building tunnels for a set area, but can't keep your barings topside.
a compass i even good for underground exploring, i got stuck, aimed towards my spawn, and dug an upward staircase. found my house in no time.
i.... see what you did there... i like it...CM156 said:Nice addition. This will make things more fun.
Kudos to the developer to. I guess he is taking things up a Notch
Again, beta. When you pay for a beta, you pay for an unfinished game, i.e one that doesn't have all it's features yet. You get what you pay for.thethingthatlurks said:In this case, "finally" means long after I had paid money to play the beta of a game based on infinitely large worlds.Jim Grim said:In this case, 'finally' means before the game is out of beta.thethingthatlurks said:Finally! You're right, of course, but I would think the number one item on the first sheet of the features list would be a map function. I honestly cannot believe it took this long to implement something that is of absolute necessity to the game when there apparently was time to put in an achievement for riding a pig off a cliff. Ah well, better late than never...Jim Grim said:Again, beta. When you pay for a beta, you pay for an unfinished game, i.e one that doesn't have all it's features yet. That would work... if my home were at spawn. BEFORE the bed update, no less, lol.Radelaide said:Get some red dust and a gold block and make a compass?Mahorfeus said:Let's see how this turns out. Once 1.6 comes out, maybe I can finally find my way back home... -_-
there's a bunch more besides cartographer that you can use.HerbertTheHamster said:... It's not like he broke cartographer completely with that saving change update.

Yea that is Skyrim's date, too. Notch is being a bit of a troll doing the same date.Tigurus said:Isn't that skyrim? Though I start to dislike all these updates so fast.
I can't even play a nice game with my mods before it updates and I am modless again
I know it's a beta and it's not bad that he releases updates fastly.
It's just a personal annoyance. Eventually the mods will be updates as well and new features are always fun though.

Even with spawn moved to bedside, the compass still points at original spawn. The exception that I know of from experience is when you go far away (5km in my case), sleep on a bed and then remove it and then die. I was planning on a quick trip back to my original location but lo and behold I popped up not far from the new location. Trying to go the long way back with the compass pointing at the new spawn then wasn't easy. I resorted to going by coordinates (F3) to my original spawn. Using this site [http://mc.42nex.us/], I had a reference upon which to guide myself to. Fortunately that was before I removed my bed and tried to jump home with death. It's a useful and noninvasive tool. Well, unless you use the Get Lost option. I haven't been brave enough to try that, yet.Mahorfeus said:That would work... if my home were at spawn.
