lol use a compass. and if your house or other things arent visible from your original spawn, build an above ground bridge, or mine cart track.Jonci said:Definitely would be useful if you can use them to view your current location while lost somewhere underground or building tunnels for a set area, but can't keep your barings topside.
i actually wasnt until i saw the first person mention it, and even now its not that obvious.A Raging Emo said:We're all thinking it...That Guy Who Phails said:The middle one looks like a dick.

lol its not hard to obtain either redstone or reeds :/wammnebu said:maybe, but i get the feeling it is really expensive like some redstone surrounded by paper which means you will need 24 reeds. Thats 3 bookshelvesTdc2182 said:Alright.
Though it does kinda render the compass useless.
Build a hobbit city? I mean I have so much dirt I have been looking into building volcanoes.Slycne said:Awww, now I'll have to find something else to do with all my dirt instead of building pillars into the sky box so I can always spot my way home.
Make a diary and put it in a chest in a dungeon, someone finds it a long time after and BOOM RP sparks!Captain Pancake said:Player created books eh? I could make a minecraft diary.
Day 7: Built a wall. Creepers blew it up. Damn creepers...
unless the compass can be used to show true north, then it'd be a little bit more useful in conjunction with the maps.Tdc2182 said:Alright.

In this case, 'finally' means before the game is out of beta.thethingthatlurks said:Finally! I don't care if this won't be in until 1.9, I just want some bloody map in the bloody game. Really, that's the one essential feature the game lacked, and it took this long?
I'm not quite sure... I was tired.kebab4you said:So why was I quoted in that text? I never said anything about his pay check.Moonpooman said:Notch receives the same payment as the employees. The compass will still be very useful. For one, Nethergates could easily take you outside of the map-area. Same if you move long distances underground. Also, it will always be useful to quickly be able to get the right direction home. Maps will be useful, but compasses will still be more essential. To always be able do find your spawn-point (or start point, now that we have beds) is essential.Zechnophobe said:Depends a bit on the building requirements for the 'map'. Might be it takes a lot longer to get the resources for a map than a compass.Tdc2182 said:Alright.

Though to be honest, I suspect map will just be like, ink + leather or something.
