Petrol, or fossil fuels in general, is generally seen as ?bad?, yet we rely on it, this is similar to the violent themes associated with soldiers and war (the idea that though it is horrible, there is some form of necessity in it - you could have him being a WW2 veteran). Similarly, you could argue that music festivals appeal to people because they demand that the crowd let, amongst other things, social order, organisation and general sanitation, slip. This gives them a primitive, earthy experience for the crowd.
Not sure where the journalist would fit in, maybe more as a ... would you call it 2nd person afterthought? I don?t know if you?ve read it, but you could have the journalist character being a bit like the modern day woman in Birdsong; with a more reflective perspective?
Don't know about the plot but it sounds like a bit of fun!
Good look with your work
Ah, I've got that book, utter genius it was!Micklet said:Ive just finished reading one of the best titled novels ever....Pride and Prejudice...and Zombies...its priceless, well executed too, its my book of the year so far. And in answer to your thread...."Life...in HD". Lovely and vague. Yet poinient, could represent mans struggle against oppression.
Ooh no no no no, I didn't mean your character should be like the one in birdsong - She?s a wet, boring, pathetic nobody. I just meant your journalist character could be used in a similar way.afaceforradio said:Thanksdontlooknow said:You could call it ?Recline? or ?Reclining? because three of those ideas have archaic, or primitive connotations (for better or worse):

The Journalist I've decided is going to be male. This is just simply because I have decided there are certain personality traits I wanted him to have that would come across as a whole different kettle of fish if he were a she. Sadly, though we are living in a modern age, I've got no qualms in admitting that there are some roles just not right for women. This character is one of them! It just wouldn't work! (you'll see why I'm sure)

Personally I'd wait until November when 10,000 people are doing the same thing [http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/whatisnano]afaceforradio said:I need some suggestions folks - I have a li'l wager going with myself that I can bang out a novel in 30 days starting 1st September 09 with nothing but a title and a vague idea.
Any suggestions for titles?
I asked a friend for four random entities that had to be included in the novel and she gave me this:
- A journalist
- A petrol station
- A former soldier
- A music festival
I'm eager to hear what kind of titles anyone can come up with (if I manage to this I'll be self publishing so any title I use will of course be credited!)
Thanks guys!

What do you think gave me the idea? I'd heard of that years ago, but I see no reason to wait until thenAmnestic said:Christ, it's that time of the year already?The_root_of_all_evil said:Personally I'd wait until November when 10,000 people are doing the same thing [http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/whatisnano]afaceforradio said:I need some suggestions folks - I have a li'l wager going with myself that I can bang out a novel in 30 days starting 1st September 09 with nothing but a title and a vague idea.
