The whole thing would come down to, Evolution. If we are truly descended from Africans, what evolutionary purpose did it serve for our skin to change?
Changes aren't always the result of being better, for example in humans red hair is a mutation, but it serves no evolutionary purpose, but since it had no hindrance it continued on. Another case I remember reading about in high school, a bunch of crabs had their habitat changed and they moved from living in a dimly lit area to dark caves, one crab had genes that made him blind and passed it down because sight wasn't a benefit in a dark cave, eventually a good portion of the community was blind.

Nowadays, if a white woman has a black child, it means her husband's black. Few hundred years ago, it'd mean she was fucking her husband's slave.

To quote from this article:

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/100/story/57036.html

"The argument is over his place of birth ? Hawaii, if you accept statements by Hawaiian officials, his 1961 birth notice in a Honolulu newspaper and a certified document his campaign obtained 18 months ago."

Found after another five seconds of googling.

So, basically, his Mother would have had to fake a birth notice in a Honolulu newspaper 47 years ago in the hope he'd one day get to be president.

And while I am at it, let's break out the reasons why this is an even an issue: He's a blakc man who lived part of his life in a muslim country. White guys run for office, and no doubts, no questions, no conspiracy theories.

Wonder Why That Could Be.

I was born abroad with my mom as a USC, my dad as a Swedish one and I've been a USC since the day I was born. Hope that clarifies things.
From Wikipedia, so not sure how accurate. Once again I'm a little pressed for time and can't really look around much. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural-born_citizen)

However, in 1795 the Congress passed the Naturalization Act of 1795 which removed the words "natural born" from this statement to state that such children born to citizens beyond the seas are citizens of the U.S., but are not legally to be considered "natural born citizens" of the U.S.

So yeah, being a citizen and a natural born citizen MIGHT just be two different things here.

AHAHAHAHAH! Are you fucking kidding me? This is the biggest line of bullshit in this thread. You're telling me there's never been a single doubt, question, or conspiracy theory about any US President until NOW?

Florida, Ohio, Watergate, JFK, Lincoln, and that's just some quick examples off the top of my head. Pulling the race card is about as bad as pulling the Hitler card.

Ah yes, claiming racism in the case of the the doubts of the citizenship of the first black president of the US is exactly and precisely equivalent to breaking Godwin's Law. Thank you for educating me.

I should have perhaps been more precise and said no *similar* conspiricy theories. i.e no 'he's not really a citizen!'

Except that his birth certificate has in fact been released. Here it is. [http://www.politifact.com/media/img/graphics/birthCertObama.jpg]. As you'll note, it doesn't list any religion
And here is an actual birth cirtifiate from Hawaii for that year. So I doubt the picture of Obama's that has been floating around is real. And this one also doesn't list religion, so there is no reason not to release his real birth cert.

Ahem, http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/28/us/politics/28mccain.html

I think that pretty much proves you wrong.

As for the actual topic! Turns out the Supreme Court didn't even want to hear about it. Case was dismissed.

To be fair, he released a birth certificate forever ago, but it was a scan of a copy or something. What they're asking for is the original to be released, thus removing any doubt. Apparently a lot of people were saying it was photochopped or whatever. I dunno, it all seems like crazy talk the more I read.

Then again, nothing wrong with being sure, right? Guess the Supreme Court will decide.
They will still claim it to be a fake anyway, hooray for conspiracy theories.
Agreed.

This appears to now be part of the USA election cycle. I am a UKer, and thus get an outside look, but am I wrong in thinking that each time an election is fought in the USA now some people try to take legal action in an attempt to prevent the winner from taking office? Has Americas tendancy to litigate over each and every thing now spread so deep that it has even taking root in the most fundamental aspects of United States culture and society?

Am I going to get sued for this post?
Probably not sued, persay. Crucified, maybe. But sued, probably not.

We Americans tend to go into denial mode if something big isn't going our way, until it's completely kosher. And even after that, we're still whiny little bastards haha

Honestly, I think the entire dilemma was birthed by racism and/or ignorance. Or both. They seem to go hand in hand, yes?

For the love all things mechanical people!

He has already provided his birth certificate. The rumors otherwise are just imbecilic fearmongering of the ignorant bigoted far far far right that is still bitter that McCain lost.

To clarify: I do believe Obama was elected in full accordance to the law, but let's face it: he is the first black president of the USA - I can also understand why he would be a bit paranoid about this whole situation.
.

I disagree, William G Hardings was the 1st african american president. I am from Australia and even i know that.
What?
I believe there was sarcasm implied... at least I hope so. William G. Hardings was an army general back in the early 1800s. =/

The Supreme Court has decided not to review Obama's eligibility:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081209/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_obama

The Hawaii Department of Health has also confirmed that Obama was born in Hawaii:

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

That's good enough for me.

(Had to double-post; an edited post wouldn't have registered as new.)

"The Open Letter to Mr. Obama summarizes the evidence against Mr. Obama and the adverse consequences that would befall the Nation should he assume the Office of the President as a usurper."

What adverse consequences?, i honestly dont understand what is wrong with Obama taking over after Bush, even if he was born in Thailand where he spent his youth, does that change his politics?, no, does that make him more probable to run a corrupt government?, no.

This lawsuit truely shows how americans value a piece of paper more than human rights, does he have the right to be president?, yeah, his politics is great and he's a great man, but they want to stop america from getting a great president just because an old piece of paper says otherwise...
