Ok, from a British point of view- and this is normally a hardened cynic- wow. That a person could keep me mesmerised that long, but also make me believe every word, thats some charisma. Wow.

I really feel sorry for the guy now. Unless its raining pixie dust, all wars end and a peaceful utopia is formed in the next 100 hundred days, he is really going to find it hard to live up to expectations. People practically deify him now. What will it be like when reality sets in?

The speech was good, certainly infinitely better than most telepromter reading, speaking-point spouting chimps, but when compared with real, classical rethoric it wasn't perfect (my father was actually a bit disappointed). Still, by modern standards it was indeed good.
Franklin and the poet lady weren't very interesting, nor was the neo-classical piece (which my mother didn't like; we're just a family of spoilsports, aren't we), but the Reverend stole the show. I think his speech was better than Obama's...

Agreed.
I can't imagine people getting as excited about a speech by Gordon Brown, put it that way.

To be honest nothing Gordon Brown does is ever exciting... he has to be one of the dullest leaders ever.

I am no sheep. I listen to what he says and agree. He puts many of my thoughts out inn a really grand way. If I listen to hitlers speaches I can undestand with my mind.... that he yells out messages of hatred. There was not alot of hatred in Obamas speach, but there was similarities. I will give you that. They both rose to power in a depression and were both good at handelig a crowd. That sums it up though.

Aside from that, Mr. Obama can give a good speech, however, I wish to see how he will do as president. I don't like his views, I don't like him, but If he does a good job, I'll just quietly wish he was mein fuh- sorry. My president.

Yeah I agree. It is a pity the guy is so uncharismatic, he has been a good leader when you look objectively at his premiership.

No topic: Obama is clearly a fantastic performer. If he is as talented a politician as he is an orator then the American people have chosen well, buy only time will tell.

He puts forth a good speech. A lot of points were none to subtle jabs at the Bush administration's way of doing things. However I can't fault him for that. I like the asking of the American people to work harder and the open handed foreign policy tone of the whole thing. Also I liked how he opened up with "My fellow citizens" instead of "My fellow Americans". I think it shows he is not pandering to the "USA is #1" crowd, but that is just my interpretation of it.

Citizens = Americans, so point is moot. Unless you can show me a citizen who isn't an American.

I think the point he was making is that not all citizens really class themselves as Americans, being his father was an immigrant, you can see the point he was trying to make. I really liked the part about the it is what we build that not what we destroy, or something along those lines, that is one of the most well said words ive listened toin my life

Obama made an amazing speech, hopefully he'll be as good a president as he is a public speaker, doubt it but heres hoping.


Gordon Brown is not a good leader and does not know what he's doing. This whole credit crunch thing has had him trying stuff, failing, finding the next thing to try and crying at the Opposition while blaming America for starting it all. If you also look at how he was the Chancellor of the Exchequer for the past 10 years or so too and saw all this coming a long way off but did nothing because it let him get so much tax revenue (Which, by the way, he's spent ALL of while the times were good) then he starts to look like quite a terrible leader, objectively speaking.

I was doing an exame the entire time that the speech was on.
Occasionally looking up incase I could catch a bit of gore from a sniper shot through his gut.

Not that I dislike the guy... but I mean who would wanna miss that?!
