It was long, thats for sure. But touching and promising as always. I myself could care less for what the guy says, it what he does that matters!

Good speech, hard to beleive the guy who writes them is just 27, and apparently gets the ideas during a blend of starbucks cofee, late nights and playing Rock Band.

I liked how he reached out to everyone: starting with calling out to Citizens (of which nation, he did not specify), then to thank Bush for the smooth transition (which has given by a bit of respect for Bush), to reach out to first Democrats and Republicans, and to whose who were "Christian and Muslim, Jewish and Hindu, and Nonbelievers".

He made it clear that we are all in it together, and reminded us what we can do when we work together.

I was almost expecting him to quote "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

I am proud that I voted for him: he's made some great promises.

But if he doesn't keep his promises; I will vote him out.

Obama is definitely one of the most charismatic leaders in the world right now. Speaking as a Canadian, and one who has watched his own politicians humiliate themselves for the last several months, I really envy the Americans.

That said, Bush left things in too big a hole. When Obama, for all his good intentions, hard work and impressive ideas still fails? That will be a dark day.

I actually heard a theory that the only reason Obama got elected is because it is the absolute worst time be president and when he can't fix Bush's colossal mess, then certain backwater sections of America will have the justification they need to never elect a minority president again. Don't know if I'd believe that, but it always sounds so.. plausible, as to really creep me out.

The guy who shot Archduke Ferdinand?
That was world war 1....
WWII basically started with the invasion of Poland.
WW1 was the opening for WW2.

He said 44 have taken the Oath of Office. Wrong.

Anyone agree?
Yep.

How many Vices have stepped up in US history? 3, I think?

EDIT: Or perhaps that's not what you're refering to.

No, he's an attention seeker. And he's finding it from you, and lapping it up like candy.

Nope. Obama had already taken the oath at the time of his speech, so he's correct. (Edited to add:) All those taking the office take the oath, even Veeps stepping up to replace the incumbant; remember the famous oath-swearing by LBJ after the Kennedy assassination.

What did you think of it? I thought it was really moving; a very good speech.

Who was the Reverend who spoke after that boring poem, I thought he was fantastic also
That was a friend and partner of Martin Luther King Jr., who after he was assasinated, took up Martin's place or something like that I got from the times.

P.S. I'm pretty sure his name is Joseph Lowry, but I cant go to wikipedia because if I do, I fear it may slow down this school computer I'm on, seeing as how the shiity stuff is always donated to schools.
Yes, it's Reverend Joseph Lowery. My friend just told me, he seems to be quite a fan of him now.

"For white to know what is right"
Made me a little uncomftorable >.>

Other than that, cool speech, like how he openly stated the problems.

I thought it was very good. He took a couple jabs at Bush, which made me smile a bit. All in all, I'm very optimistic for the future :)

WW1 dumbass, unless you were being Sarcastic, or Sardonic as "Ambross Monk" would say.

P.S. Then I'll laugh at your comment and drink wine, like the 1/3 Britt I am!

P.S.S. Or is that the French that drink wine?

P.S.S.S. Come to think of it, what do Britts drink?
Technically speaking he did start WW2. WW1 was the starting point of all the drama which would defeat Germany, thus causing WW2.

No shit, really? Think a little.

He's not comparing Mr. Obama to Hitler. He's comparing their oratorical abilities. And they both had plenty.
Hitler was better.
There, I said it.

(Obama will probably be a better leader for his country overall, though.)
Hehe. You may be right. The way hitler manipulated so many people was quite amazing, but I dont think their suited for the american 2009 average Joe...just the 1930s average Hans or something.

Nonbelievers were included in the list of different kinds of people. It's a nice change from the President calling us "Not Real Americans".

Seriously.

I've often felt that WW1 was more to do with the British Empire's growing dependence on oil over coal conflicting with Germany's new Berlin-Baghdad railway which would have provided their empire with a direct link to the largest handy source of the lifeblood of industrial civilisation while leaving the Brits running to keep up- clearly an unacceptable situation which they solved by *drumroll* invading Iraq and kicking out the German-friendly government.

Sorry, what were we talking about again?

Oh yeah. I haven't seen the speech but I will look it up on Youtube later tonight. I did see him fluff the oath, which made me smile- we've all been there. My final year project was looking for 7-hydroxymatairesinol in sitka spruce wood samples, and despite its length I never tripped up on the word until my final presentation where I stood up before the class, my tutor and all the lecturers and said "My project was concerned with the extraction and purification of 7-hajudufudubudebum." Different scale, natch, but still :)

I wouldn't want to be him tomorrow morning when he opens his post/email, but well done to him nonetheless and I hope he does well for all you folks across the pond.

not a bad speech, but not as good as his other ones. i blame roberts for trying to run through the oath too fast.

lowery's benediction was a much better speech and poem, imo.

Actually the man giving the oath got it wrong--Obama waited for him to correct it.
