Buy a 2edhand copy for a replacement. Or maybe if you contact the publisher or developers, they'll ship you a new disc if you pay for shipping & provide proof of purchace (wishful thinking?)

To remedy your issue, go ahead and rent the game... then switch disks. It could probably work.

A damn it all moment, hmm... I got pissed once and destroyed an old keyboard because of a bad anime dub once. At least it's a testament to my hatred of dubbed anime...
I murdered a keyboard, too. Well, only the space and Alt Gr keys. That was, oddly enough, because of MW2. But space is pretty important.

About the disk problem for the OP:

Gamestation does disk repairs. That's if you're a UK guy. Maybe Gamestop do it in the US? I dunno.

Curiously, your soul will remain with your disk in the rental box if you choose to do this.

Gaming stopped being fun for me the minute it became competitive.
It's so nice to see that I'm not the only person who thinks this. They're just games; they're supposed to be fun!

On- topic response: Swapping disks with a rental seems like a pretty crummy thing to do, since even if the company doesn't catch you, and even if the company can afford (or is insured) to replace the disk, you're still screwing over the next guy who goes to rent the game, finds that it's broken, and gets to do another lap to the store before he can play his game.

That's a pretty new game. I'd contact the company about it. I mean, unless you were using the disk as a Frisbee, a non- defective disk shouldn't die in, what, three months?

Similar situations... Years ago, I dropped my copy of Super Smash Bros. (the N64 version) and found that the impact with the carpet had jarred something in the game and wiped my save. Argh.

I had a moment worse than that of the OP, Resident evil 2 on the PS, i had left the second disc on a handy shelf, someone knocked it, it slid on top of the box/cage fire-guard we had, from there is slid straight into the vent of the gas fire, the disc melted into the fire.

But isn't that *gasp* ILLEGAL?
Not sure about illegal but you sure are returning the same game to them...

You're a Silencer! Ask the Night Mother to fix your problems.

OT, I was once sold an extremely scratched up copy of Jak and Daxter.

Bastards.
Can I derail the thread for a moment to ask you what anime your icon is from?
Sure thing.

Its from bokusatsu tenshi dokuro-chan

Its the craziest most fucked up and one of the funniest animes I've ever seen.
Is it more fucked-up than FLCL, because that's pretty hard to believe.
Oh...its waaaaaayyyyy more fucked up than FLCL.

Here, watch this. Its a few scenes from the anime and about 10 minutes of pure crazy shit. You'll get hooked on it though:

that is downright hilarious, please give me a few links to some episodes.
Most of the episodes are on Youtube :D
