Though lately I've been playing Assault (ARAM) mode exclusively, so it's more a case of "Oh shit, I've been given..." and there are plenty of answers there. I'm dreadful with Artemis, and the RNG really seems to love watching me struggle with her (give me Neith more often, please give me Neith more often). Ne Zha is the clunkiest most useless dude/dudette in the game so long as I'm controlling him/her, even though he/she seems so overpowered in the hands of anybody else.

Still at least they concentrated on the gameplay, online and create a soul modes and they did good there. Balance wise its a lot better than 4 and 3 I also like the fighting better than 2 but SC1 still takes it for me overall fighting wise. Some complain about the stripped back moveset but I welcomed a lot of it as it took it back to its roots more and got rid of a load of unneeded fat imo.

Hopefully the new characters will be ripped out next game and be replaced with their superior incarnations from the series, or they actually make a Soul Edge 2 and have a brand new cast for the most part thats well designed and liked i.e none of the new ones from SCV.

Again with my brother, if he picks Talim in Soul Caliber II, I have to be Link or Raphael on order to beat him, she's so fast and dangerous.

I like new characters too and they did a good job on the main characters in the SC series until 5 seriously play them and I really think you will dislike the new characters mainly because most of them arent new characters hey lets get rid of Sophitia and add Patrokolos then lets get rid of Setsuka and add Alpha Patrokolos (yes its the same character again only a different moveset i.e setsukas this time) then get rid of Cassandra and add Phyrra get rid of Taki add Natsu and so on. Basically they arent new characters they have movesets of older characters and those older characters are of much better design character wise imo.

I suggest watching a lets play of the SCV story mode (its god awful) and then see if you still like the new characters they are just so annoying they are just totally unlikeable personality and design wise and as I have said they bring almost nothing new fighting wise to the game. I am all for new characters but make them new dont just replace series stalwarts with an unlikeable new person that does the exact same thing only looks and sounds infinitely shitter doing it.

The trouble is your doomed if you do and doomed if you dont with new characters people want new characters but they also want their favourites to still be in and I can understand that. Although returning characters usually have tweaks to a smaller or larger degree to freshen them up a bit and ofc if the game plays differently it will make them feel different as well.Also look at SF3 that got rid of almost all the cast from SF2 (except Ryu) and people werent happy so Ken and Chunli were later added back in (and were then complained about being OP) also the game never took off as much as SF2 for a lot of reasons but I bet one was people didnt see it as a street fighter game as all their characters had gone.

I dont think you will ever get a fighting game with perfect balance because really then all the characters would have to be the same technically but I dont think SCV and DOA5 are badly balanced for DOA5 its the best the series has been competitively ever imo also ultimates coming out for DOA5 soon. Games like Marvel 2 and 3 have much worse balancing issues imo but they are still fun.

Oh and I have already mentioned Mitsurugi as my bane but theres one other one that always makes me go FFS and its Maxi I just cant read that dude and I dont think many players even know what he is going to do them selves when they are controlling him, I usually get slaughtered or breeze it, its rarely inbetween.

EDIT: It has come to my attention that SCVs development while initially short was cut shorter because of the horrific earthquake they had in Japan when it was being developed so I guess I may be being a little hard on them and if they pushed development back it would clash with Tekken unless they pushed Tekken back as well but I am pretty sure they didnt want to do that. Its also another reason why they stripped back SCV because they wanted Tekken to get the attention it needed even at the expense of SCV which is a shame.

Let's go Soul Calibur on this, actually. Raphael is, essentially, bullshit. The first thing to understand about him is that he's more or less a dueling fighter who uses a rapier...improperly. You do not SWING a rapier. You THRUST. Once I was informed of this little fact concerning swords, I hated him more than I did already. And why that? Because he's a pompous ass who has no right to be in the same league as the rest of the cast.

Why's that, you ask? Hmmm...swinging that dinky little sword of his at Nightmare or Astaroth or anyone with high-body or armor should do...no damage, or very little. In fact, for using his sword improperly, it should BREAK because he's an idiot. I don't enjoy fighting Raphael. I enjoy crushing him into a little pulp for thinking he has any right to be in this game.

Politoed in competitive Pokemon.

90% of teams that run Politoed just go ahead and spam the biggest attackers in the game. Which then leads to everyone else picking out 6 counters to those guys and calling it a day. And the next thing you know, everyone has one of two freaking teams, and every match is exactly the same as one of the two before it.

I hate Politoed.

The reason I use him (in WT and singleplayer, mind you) is for the neverending water we brings, then you switch into a now invincible Kingdra or something and just have a day. For the most part, stuff like this is why Smogon bans what it does and keeps it more fun so you can't just screw people over because you had a bad day or something.

Yeah, they summon that weather effect and it's infinite until the weather is changed by another move or ability. So abomasnow can be useful because ice doesn't do much except helps him with blizzard and doesn't actually weaken any of your strategies, so it can be nice. Tyrannitar is kind of known for assisting excadrill now because of that and makes him an unstoppable monster. Overall my group of friends that battle stray away from using drizzle or drought, and the sandstream + sand rush kind of stuff, because it's really annoying to deal with in gen 5.

Yeah, that's why Aatrox is never picked in a serious match and Jayce is always either banned or picked on a high level. Jayce's high mana costs are overcome by Tear/Manamune/Muramana, which is what every Jayce ever builds and has an easy time charging it. On the other hand, Aatrox is a noob stomper - strong against low level players, but useless against any good player...

Aatrox isn't picked because he's only been out for a week! You don't use new champs in the serious matches - hell, Lissandra is only now starting to show up in the LCS and she's been out for a month and a half or something like that

Coco - Has debilitiating thunder trails, is fast, and her massive heavy hitter Thunderball attack is way, WAY stronger than it needs to be. When I went into a cheering and laughing fit when I SUCCESSFULLY KILLED HER, after 20 hours of accumulated time, that's not a good sign.

But by far the worst is Raelynn - anyone who has played Awesomenauts will know exactly what I'm on about, but if not...Every 6-8 seconds or so she can bust out a massive Sniper shot.

Well, I say Sniper Shot theoreticly. It's closer to a goddamn Ion Cannon. It has a massive red line telegraph, but there's one significant problem - People can press the fire button again to fire it early. So, unpredictable, horrificly powerful, usable very often, and can blast you into peices before you even see her.

I know she's basically meant to be a cryo-frozen, female Sniper from TF2, but dear god, why.

Your first one is actually Leon, Froggy G is the rapping frog. Otherwise I completely agree on the invisible ganker.

I would hate Coco if it wasn't for the fact that her basic attack is laughably useless and her ball is pretty hard to hit with. She is a problem for brawlers, granted.

Raelynn is pretty ridiculous. You forgot to add her other ability is a slowing trap to help her escape, along with having an upgrade that makes her faster than nearly everyone out of combat. Some upgrade to snipe even allows it to hit BEYOND THE SCREEN AREA. I've had some Raelynns in my team who only upgraded the trap and hardly ever used the snipe and I was like "wut".

Yeah, now and again the Creative Assembly to seem to go insane with stupidly OP units. Legendary Geisha were ridiculous - I remember desperately trying to hide my Daimyo from one while getting a decent enough assassin to kill them.

Luckily in Rome you never used to come across many berserkers because they needed good barracks and a specific religious building.
Though they did make playing the Germania campaign too easy. I perfected a particular half-stack combo of some spearmen, 3 berserkers, 2 light cav.
Spearmen pin and take casualties because cheap, berserkers flank, enemy runs, cavalry chase. It was a literally unstoppable combination against even elite enemy full stacks.

I actually declared war on everyone for the hell of it, and just waltzed over the entire map, even Italy and Greece which normally take a while even when you're only at war with one or two factions at a time.

I do wonder if they'll make a reappearance in Rome II...

Drop the spearmen and berserkers and you have my Medieval 2 killer combo. Heavy cav charge especially is so overpowered it's ridiculous.
I perfected my tactics aginst the AI with cav in a mod ("Schwert und Speer" if you care) against some really good army compositions.
In that mod, most cities controlled by rebels have a full stack of units in them with a good composition of heavy crossbowmen, archers, spearmen, pikemen and one or two units of heavy cavalry(This was supposed to prevent too early and too easy conquest).
The way I approached this was with only three or four family members with a heavy cav bodyguard, so they would sally fourth immediately without me having to siege for several turns. At the start of the battle, I would run my cav back to the edge of the map and wait for the enemy cav to break off from the main army so my units could surround them and kill them off. Then I used my superior mobility to run around the spearmen and pikemen to charge into the shooters. After they were dealt with I split my forces into bait and hammer. One unit of cav would ride close to the enemy without engaging to make them face away from my other units, which allowed those to charge into their backs repeatedly and kill them off. This works incredibly well, even against pikemen(although sometimes they would turn around at the last second and kill some of my units).
Since I used family members, I didn't have to wait very long for them to replenish any losses or build any expensive structures.
Also note that these rebel armies had at least 3 experience, as well as upgraded weapons and armour, so they were pretty much the toughest armies I was ever going to face.

That's why I always play with a self-imposed challenge of "no cav, except for chasing routing units (sometimes with an added no ransom or execution of armies)" nowadays.

Because it takes for-fucking-ever to get really good with Voldo, as confusing as it is for people facing Voldo it's even more confusing trying to control it. He has so many stances and to use any of them well you need to know how to move between them all to get to the correct stance to perform the technique.

Any Krogan in ME3. It seems like they always try to solo the whole map and never play with the team. The Warlord is especially bad about this with that stupid hammer.

I see your soloing Krogan and raise you soloing N7 Destroyers. Or pairs if you are unlucky enough trying to have any impact with this class in your team. It seems like they can turn Banshees and Primes into grease marks with no effort and whole waves fall before their volleys of missiles. MP turns into grinding against your team trying to find something to take out before they get a chance. You could make a point that all N7s are OP but Destroyers supply an excuse for players to go full Rambo.
