I played the game a couple months ago for the first time. It was pretty good, pretty damn good. Then I find out 2 days after returning it that there's an HD edition!
I saw it for sale last year and picked it up since I'd been intrigued about it for a while.
The art is really great, the combat is fun, and I would recommend it for anyone with an interest in the tradition aspects of Japan, if only to see how those aspects are collected and commercialised for consumption by a younger audience.
The few negatives were the snail-paced text speed that you couldn't adjust, and, surprisingly, the length. The game is surprisingly long. Usually that would be a good thing for me (I play JRPGs quite regularly), but Okami trolls you into believing you're right at the end at least twice that I can remember - the first time isn't even a third of the way through the game!

I adore this game. Own it on Wii, played it on ps2 as well, but I preferred the Wii version.
I would totally buy this day one, only I don't own a ps3. So I'll just play it again on Wii and pretend I'm one of you fancy Okami HDers instead
Seriously though. Fantastic game. It's in my top five ever. I loved every second of it, and the worst part was finishing it because then I didn't have any more Okami to play.

Okami is a third person action game, much in the vein of Zelda. The big difference between the two is that unlike in Zelda, combat in Okami takes place in tiny arenas that form around you and your opponents.Mangles69 said:

Essentially, you are a Shinto [footnote](Japanese religion that mixes animism, spirituality, and a huge pantheon/bestiary of gods, goddesses, demons and mystical creatures, to put it in simplest of definitions)[/footnote] Goddess reincarnated in the form of the wolf, and you are charged with bringing nature back to it's proper glory and defeating multiple demons hell-bent of making the world a miserable place. But that's just the surface of the plot. Once you get into the game, there are several branching arcs and side stories woven into one large narrative, alongside the Messianic charge of saving the world.Solo-Wing said:

Ok, ok, I did come up with one nit-pick before posting. The drawing recognition on the Wii was rather shitty. The thing is, it didn't bother me at all because the game pauses every time you draw something. If you fail, you lose only about .3 of a second to try again. Roughly 97% of the time, that failure doesn't make a lick of a difference.
OT: I won't be getting this sadly. I don't own a PS3, and I won't be owning a PS3. It would be a day-one purchase if it got sent to Steam though. My Wii copy is great and all, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again on my favorite platform.
I played and loved this game when it got re-released on the Wii, even though I am lead to believe that this is the lesser version of the game, I still really loved it, it has some really beautiful moments, moments that when you first see them will actually make you go "wow".
I'm not saying its the perfect game, I think it does have its flaws, but buying this on day one is definately a no brainer for me, I'm looking forward to playing it with a proper controller.
