Old Computer Game you wish you could still play

Old point-and-click adventure games. Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest, King's Quest, Quest for Glory, etc. (jesus how many times can you use the word 'quest' in once sentence)
It's not so much that my rig can't handle them, it's more that I just don't like the genre quite as much as I used to.
Besides, I still remember how to beat at least half the old adventure games I played, usually thanks to TV Tropes making some vague reference to the yeti-killing pie or something of the sort.

...My computer probably wouldn't run them anyway.
One could theoretically run them using DOSBOX, but I don't know a whole lot about how it works. Really should check it out, though. I miss those classics as well, particularly the Quest for Glory series and my all-time favourite, Conquests of the Longbow.

In an awkward note, I used to play one of my old favourites, "Majesty: A Fantasy Kingdom Sim" just fine due to a download purchase, but since I ended up losing my old moniter and getting it replaced with a widescreen one, I haven't been able to play it due to the game predating widescreen, screwing up the interface and cutting off the top half of the screen. I either need a new monitor, find some kind of fix, or simply restart the game on a different computer.

Yes to all the old King's Quest and Space Quest games. Although as you said, it's not so much not being able to replay them technology-wise, and more like "you can't go home again".

That said, I really would love to play the Dig again, but have never figured out how to make it work on my Windows XP computer. And that's if I could even find it at this point.

Star Wars Tie Fighter and Xwing Alliance. I got the discs, they just don't work on my computer. Windows 7 is too awesome for them.
This. Would love a new version of this for current hardware and OS, but with my luck they would try to "improve" on it and ruin it completely.

Gothic II - so far my only one that doesn't want to work - doesn't want to play with my nVidia Driver.

I grow cold thinking of the future, that more games may very well become incompatible with future operating software or video cards. That things like Good Old Games may not last long enough to do us their service and the ideals behind such things die with them. Oh sure, PC Gaming gets to move forward, but look at what we're leaving behind.

Such is the quandary of a nostalgic gamer.

Betrayal At Krondor. Unbelievable game.
You can purchase the Betrayal at Krondor from Good Old Games, should be compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7 if the OS is the problem. Or is it the driver of your video card?

Worms World Party, I lost my copy of that wonderful, wonderful game.

Luckily I still have a working version of RECOIL.

(RECOIL is one of the best TPSes EVER.)
(Check it out, btw.)

Oh, I'm actually something like 87% certain I could make most adventure games work fine with careful use of DOSBox, really.
It's just my quiet excuse to not attempt to reinstall them, and I'm currently trying to keep myself from doing so.
stop encouraging me for i am a creature of habit

Balls of Steel. I loved that game, but a DX update came out and broke it... DX6 I think. I tried it again every new DX for a few years and on new machines, but no luck.

Just got Industry Giant II working again last weekend :D

It is very easy to use once you understand the mechanic of mounting drives (it's an emulator, after all, so it's sandboxed).

C&C:red alert (the oringinal), only worked on windows 95, so now i can't play
Pick up C&C The First Decade. Almost all the C&C games up to Generals Zero Hour, and all work on XP, hope that helps.

TIE Fighter. I've tried many times, but I just can't get it to run on my more advanced system.

It thinks I don't have the right (outdated) version of DirectX and thinks that it still needs it for the game to run. I've tried multiple times for an emulator or some other solution, but I find myself getting distracted by something else, or something better or more important than a nostalgia trip comes up

I wish I could play games like Metroid and Zelda on a decent console and not the stupid bloody Wii.

I have yet to find something I really wanted to play that I can't get to work at all in DOSBox or a VM of some sort. Sometimes it's kind of a pain to get it all working right, but so far, so good. The worst part is old Mac games, because it's actually easier to get old DOS/Windows games running in OS X than it is to get old Mac games running on OS X, which is kind of depressing. Getting SheepShaver in a cooperative mood can be a good way to waste an entire week.

While not something I had the chance to actually play to begin with, I am saddened that my computer cannot play "The Longest Journey" =(

It won't run on anything but Windows 95 anymore....

I's a sad panda :'(

It was a sweet game too...the card game meets an RPG...
You could try finding some emulators. I use Dosbox for all my Doom games.
