I think alot of you should check out DOSbox. It's come a long way and is pretty easy to set up (there's a bunch of walkthru's and setup instructions on the net). I play Warcraft 1, Kings Quest, Screamer 2 just to name a few.

Lords of the Realm 2 has a vista patch so it works perfectly in 64-bit.

DOSbox is pretty close to working with windows 98, too. For all those games that fall into the grey zone.

Rodents' Revenge.
It's not really valid, though. After approximately three years of racking my brain for the name, I finally found it.
Happy days.. That game is amazing.

I'm really into retro video games (I've a Retro Meet Up at the end of this month *excited*) so I don't really miss most of my games but I'd love to have a proper Monster Rancher 2 that doesn't keep freezing, it's kinda expensive now a days. Another one would be Kula World, you know with the beach ball? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol1usmZs9r8 which is also expensive and they're both second hand like.

For me It would have to be Dungeon Siege, it was a dungeons and dragons like adventure, in a good way. Pick up armor/weapons/spells from dead enemies and either put it on myself or my allies and continue tearing up a path of destruction on the mooks.

It was a good game...a pity I never beat it once I think about it. I enjoy roleplaying games, and if you can find this game and play it, give it a shot, you will not be disappointed.
I never beat it either, why don't you get it again? I was trying to sell one but no one wanted it lol you're the only person I know who heard of it
No I still have it, I just can't play it thanks to my computors being too fast

See this is why I still have a 286, a 486, and a Pentium 3 still lying around in various places and storage areas! People always tell me, "Oh that's junk just get rid of it." But they have no idea how useful they can be when I want to go back and play things like Lands of Lore or Operation Neptune (old DOS games) or even slightly newer stuff that would run on windows 3.1/95. Don't have to worry about compatibility issues at all because those are the freakin systems the games were built for. DOSBox would probably work for a bunch of the old stuff I play but I figure why bother when you can really feel the nostalgia with the old ass CRT monitor where the DOS letters show up green and junk. I'm really not that old but it makes me feel old sometimes reading about how people are sad that their windows 98 games don't work anymore lol

Oh and for you poor tempted souls thinking DOSBox is hard to use, I tried playing Lands of Lore with it just to try it out and the ease with which you can do it is ridiculous.

Start DOSBox
Prompts you with Z:
you type - MOUNT C C:\LANDS (that directory being where the game files are)
you type - C: (change to the drive you just mounted)
you type - LANDS (DOS command to start the game since the "executable" is named LANDS)

game runs

there is much rejoicing

So if you think its hard to use, no, no its not. Just have to know where the files are and the correct prompt to run the game.

Awh sickened, I never heard of a computer being too fast for an old game, I only got mine at Christmas but it plays my games better then my old one (most of my games are real old), I guess I was just lucky

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee.

I died so many times in that game. But it's alright, 'cause that game's awesome. ^_^

An old point and clicker by the name of Willy Beamish. I remember it having great graphics for the time and I for some reason never finished it. It's not so much that I really want to play it but more that I never did get around to finishing it. Heh Of course, I have no idea where it is now or even what format of floppy it was on.

Mechwarrior 3
When I played it for the first time, I was waaaay to young.
Too much of a simulation. I just ran around and used up all my
ammunition... Good times ;-)

and
Freespace 2

I will try to install it when I'm home from the festival
I'm going to today.
Next thing to do (if it works): Buy a cheap joystick.

X-wing. Runs on DOS, so yeah...Lucas Arts. If you want to make money, you will re-release this game, with updated graphics ONLY! No changing the storyline, game mechanics, wingman controls. NOTHING! I don't care if it screws up the cannon. This game is perfect as it is. The graphic changes are only a suggestion.

Anyone else every play that Lord of the Rings game back in the day? It was just called Lord of the Rings, used scenes from that cartoon movie by the same name, and it was an adventure game in the truest sense. My brother and I got lost so many times in that game. I loved that game. Sigh...

It won't run on anything but Windows 95 anymore....

I's a sad panda :'(

It was a sweet game too...the card game meets an RPG...
you know that there is a toolkit that can fix that right?
I have a mac these days, so no, I didn't know that.

Don't really have a ton of old games. I wish I could still play Worms Armageddon, but for some reason it won't work on my machine now, even if I try comparability mode. It's not that old, but it crashes anytime I load a game.
I was almost about to say the same thing. my game I wish I could play on my system is Worms World Party. My friend and I tried to get it running on his Vista machine a couple of days ago, but it sadly ended in fail.

I looked up several workarounds, but none were a hundred percent effective, and none worked with his setup. It was a sad moment, as we wanted out Monty Python team of worms again. Oh well, looks like I 'll be shelling out the $20 for the new one when it's released on Steam.

While not something I had the chance to actually play to begin with, I am saddened that my computer cannot play "The Longest Journey" =(
It should be able to, you can get it from Good Old Games patched up to run on Vista.

Frespace is also available at Good Old Games and there are graphic updates and everything, all available online. You will want to search for FS2_Open from memory which has a launcher that will get Freespace running on just about any rig that could run the game in the first place. You're going to have to buy that joystick now.

For mine it is Starlancer and Crimson Skies, I can get them running on integrated intel graphics adapter machines (my netbook), but I wish I could play it on my desktop. I can still play System Shock 2 but I wish someone would remake these games shot-for-shot style in a modern game engine. I wonder what those Black mesa guys are going to do when they finish their mod?
