Hey guys, glad I found this thread.
I've been thinking of this game on and off for years now, but I've had no way to track it down, so maybe you can help.
It was a 90's isometric RTS, I think, where there were two islands floating in the sky and you had to build turrets to attack the other's base. I don't remember much about the gameplay, but what I do remember clearly is white and gold building I think was called a 'Solar Disk', which was a turret that spun around and flung a projectile, like a discus. I remember the distinctive 'woh-woh-woh-snap' of them shooting constantly.
Like I said, there were two floating grassy islands in an endless sky, and I believe the objective was to destroy the other's generator. No people that I remember, just turret building. I was young, so I'm not sure I ever got past the first level, so my knowledge of the game may be pretty limited. I'm unsure whether it was on DOS or not... not sure how else I would have played it though. The graphics were that very pixilated realism of the era... had a sort of... shareware, colourful StarCraft feel to it? The word 'Orion' also feels familiar.
I hope that's enough :s
Edit:
Never mind, I just managed to stumble on it at Abandonia! It was called NetStorm. [http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/216/NetStorm+-+Islands+at+War.html] I immediately recognised the logo. I'll leave this here in case anyone else remembers this game.
