If you want to get the game running on a modern computer you're going to need to use a free program called DOSbox which you can get here http://www.dosbox.com/ to simulate the old MS-Dos operating system. Most of the time if you see an 80s to mid-90s game for sale on places like Steam or GoG it comes with a copy of Dosbox already set up to run it. I don't think ShadowCaster is on gog/steam etc. but there is a CD version you can probably get pretty cheap on ebay or thereabouts, and I think the CD version has a few extra levels.
