So, you are saying that younger kids dunno what "old school" means? So does that mean Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead 2 count? I mean I didn't buy Fallout 3 the day it came out and Left 4 Dead 2 came out last decade.IrirshTerrorist said:And there in lies the inherent flaw of my thread; age difference = opinion difference.Assassin Xaero said:You seriously consider 5 years ago old school? When I think of old school I think asteroids, missile defend, donkey kong, and all those other old arcade came that were around 20 years ago.Captain Pancake said:How attention seeking are you that you get off on pointing out the small flaws in my original statement?Nwabudike Morgan said:How young are you that a game that came out in 2005 and was supported with expansions up to 2008 is "old school".Captain Pancake said:Civ 4

Morrowind.
Morrowind is chief amongst them because seriously, I fucking love that game.
And yes, the gratuitous swearing was necessary to elucidate my point.
Check the OP, it says there's no clear definition of "old school" for the point of this thread. I'm talking about games that I have bought that weren't immediately released. I'm so terribly sorry that I don't conform to your own, perfect image in this thread, oh great and powerful Nwabudike Morgan.
In my defense I did point this out at the beginning.

I really hope Nintendo decides to release GB, GBC, and GBA games for download on the Dsi.
I'm saying they Do know hat old school is. They know what it is from their perspective, but their perspective may currently be more limited than those who are older. That being said their opinion is still relevant and I want to hear it.Assassin Xaero said:So, you are saying that younger kids dunno what "old school" means? CTR played it only four days ago in a mini-tournament with some friends, I came second of 14 people... get robbed of first place by a CTR expert.Super_Nintendo_Chalmers said:Spyro the dragon

i tend to think this also, the only RTS off the top of my head thats held up is Starcraft..which is soon to be replaced by its sequel, most rpg's i can replay and experience the same feeling and accomplishment in beating it, besides the story and characters, alot of it is cut and dry imoIrirshTerrorist said:It seems to me that whether a game ages well or not is very dependent on what type of game it is. Now I am a being very broad there, and there are quite a few exceptions I'm sure, but in general I believe what I have said holds true.
Well put. I'm glad we agree, shows I'm either sane or at least not alone in my insanity...gmaverick019 said:i tend to think this also, the only RTS off the top of my head thats held up is Starcraft..which is soon to be replaced by its sequel, most rpg's i can replay and experience the same feeling and accomplishment in beating it, besides the story and characters, alot of it is cut and dry imoIrirshTerrorist said:It seems to me that whether a game ages well or not is very dependent on what type of game it is. fps tend to get smoother..take on a few different angles that are seen time and time again, but your right as they get outdated and outplayed and eventually move on to a new fps
Sonic 1,2 and 3&K, SoR 1,2 and 3 all great games.Danzaivar said:Super Mario World, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past and Mega Man X.
Quick shout out to the Columns, Streets of Rage II and Super Hang-On 3-in-1 cartridge too!
Hehe, I guess it doesn't really feel old school thenIrirshTerrorist said:It counts if it counts to you... if you know what I mean.number9dream said:Hm... Does Starcraft count as an old school game since it's still being played by hundreds of thousands? If it does, then well, that's my favorite game of all time so that.
P.S: liked you long informative post, made for good reading and decent increase in my old school gaming knowledge.

Dude, it's just my opinion, they're relatively old games that I still enjoy. I won't reiterate myself, so just look back to my previous posts in case my statement wasn't clear enough.Assassin Xaero said:You seriously consider 5 years ago old school? Wow.
