I, unlike you, do have absolutely a clue what I am talking about. You are accusing GeoHotz and him releasing the jailbreak key as the unlock to get to PSN servers. Which is impossible. It only made sure you can jailbreak the PS3 and use it as you please.

To access to Sony's, what seems sloppy security systems, you need to be skilled and talented with a PC to gain access to their servers. AKA, Geohotz is completely out of this picture. Maybe Anon' was behind it or someone else who just wanted to fuck people up.

So before you quote and reply back, please offer some sound arguments back rather than an empty quotation, I don't want my inbox 'spammed' so to speak nor do I engage futile rants if the person I am talking to cannot offer anything at all.
From what I've seen, his argument is just one step short of slander.
He has provided no evidence other than supposition, and his claims are inherently a fallacy (Correlation =/= Causality, and even here his correlation is weak).

Basically, he's just trying to stir shit up by flat out lying.

Why are they dumb?

I'm sure Microsoft's online service could just as easily get fucked. How very fair-weather of those guys.

I for one am staying loyal to the mini-monolith hooked up to my TV.

unless sony cancels their video game division, im not going anywhere. heres the breakdown. i dont like multiplayer games or console shooters. you buy a 360 for shooters and for online play, mostly. you buy a wii because you make bad decisions. you buy a ps3 if you want jrpgs and a primarily single player experience. that last group is me. information being stolen, yeah thats a pretty fuckin big deal. internet service being down for a week, who gives a fuck. lets be honest people, if you have a ps3 it damn sure isnt because of their online service

I doubt I'll get a 360 instead. I probably will be building a new pc pretty soon though.
*SIGH* In a perfect world... Everyone would be thinking this.
i personally am saving up for a new motherboard, processor, and video card (my current AM2 socket has served me very well, but doesnt have much place in todays society)

pc gamer master race ftw!

Jump on to PC instead!
You know you want to ;)
i do want to, but they are expensive, and i like having the peace of mind of knowing that if i buy an xbox game it's going to run on my xbox, and on max graphics settings, even if those settings are less than those of a pc game

I'm sticking with my Ps3 because I still think its the superior console and that isn't changed because some douchebag hackers compromised PSN.

Disclaimer: The above is my OPINION so if you disagree, please feel free to not tell me all about it.
I hope you don't mind me agreeing 100%.

I don't buy DLC or download titles, so I'm not even sure I had info to be stolen online. As for online play, this has coincidentally coincided with one of the busiest, most stressful times of the year for me, so I wouldn't have been gaming anyway.

I still love my games, and my PS3. I don't lug my money around in a gym bag because banks get robbed every once in a while.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the biggest video-game related fuck-up catastrophe ever?

I kind of pity Sony. I feel like this might severely damages their chances at doing any good in future console races.
This is in no way The "is this the biggest video-game related fuck-up catastrophe ever"
You need to think and remember the Virtual Boy.

Did this whole thing make me almost wet my pants?
Yes.

Do I think that Sony fucked up?
Yup.

Will I switch consoles?
Not at all.

I love my PS3, and the one good thing about this entire situation is the fact that this will (hopefully) set Sony straight. They are (hopefully) going to get all of their shit together, and this time they'll improve their systems. It's the idea that everyone makes mistakes and the idea that we learn best from out mistakes that make me hopeful. Yeah I'm worrying my balls off that some "idjut" might decide to order a platinum toilet with the money that we've been working hard for, but right now I see Sony as a sad teenager who failed their exam and is trying their best to raise their grades because of it.

I bet Sony are pulling their hair off.
But I'll stick with to the end. After all, it's Playstation.

That 1/5 isn't even what I'm thinking of. It's people who're still debating which console to get.

A lot of my friends were on the fence when deciding between Ps3/360. It's possible that this could have shoved many onto the other side.

It's like a scandal hitting a church; many who have considered leaving the church will instantly lose all their faith.

I was honestly thinking about getting a PS3 before all this happened, really only so I can play with my friends who also have one. I won't say this whole fiasco has really stopped me from getting one, but it isn't very encouraging. That, and I just hate the controllers...360 ones really just fit like a glove, PS ones have always just felt....awkward. And using R1 to shoot? That's too much. Would really need to find a "xbox-ish" controller if I ever do end up getting one or atleast one with actual trigger guards.

On the plus side, maybe all this stuff will help me convince my friends to get 360's instead, then I can save myself some money, and the awkwardness of getting used to a different kind of controller! Yes....yes, I see this working out nicely. That, and I would like to have more actual IRL friends to play Gears and Halo with. I feel like if they had people to actually play them with, they'd stop dismissing them as generic shooters (while praising killzone and resistance constantly)

Wait, what were we talking about?

This seems to be a landmark victory in the console wars. 1/5 of their users is a staggering amount, even if they don't all convert.

Yeah, I used to think ps controllers were great when I was between ps2 and Xbox 360. I just didn't know any better. And it was a long time ago, so I guess my hands were a bit smaller.

Say what you will about Gears being generic, it beats the hell out of Resistance.

There's really no reason to doubt the truth of the results, but this seems like a tiny sample size. Like...2,000? That's half the size of my old High School. The potential for bias is enormous.
i 've some studies that only used 400 people to test, 200 is a decent sample size, but i agree i would prefer 3500-5000 people for a better test.
